That would be like getting excited over a Tom Loy CB in favor of the Irish.

We are in play here, keep the faith.

Totally agree. Since coming on to the beat at Clemson, Anna has gone full fangirl. The fact that Clemson offers fewer kids than most programs also makes putting in CBs for them a bettors' market. She fits in really well with the local media that cover Clemson. She is just happy to be along for the ride.

I still really like ND's chances with Will Shipley. I just do not see Clemson as a great fit for this kid, for a number of factors, including academics, culture and scheme. If he ended up being an EE, I could see him starting against Ohio State. At Clemson I could see him sitting behind a lot of other good RBs, and then either ending up on defense or in some H back position by his junior year.

I think Dabo putting on the full court press, and Clemson being ~2 hours from his home town and ND being ~10 hours away is going to be a big deal.

I was convinced he's been coming to ND but I didn't realize Dabo was going to go full court press on him with and OV and in school follow up.

And Anna Hickey (or whatever her name is) CB to Clemson :((.

She's like Loy CBing someone... Not worried about her CB

I just worry about having all of our eggs in one basket.

We've been recruiting Donovan Edwards pretty intensely, I think that's a huge longshot but it's not like Shipley is the only back we're talking to, or even the only back we're prioritizing.

These are the names to know at RB. Shipley, Edwards, Wheaton, and Kiner.

Can you share his reasoning?

The family was traveling over the weekend for his brothers Lax match. Obviously it's important to try and get this weekend booked so we get 2 visits but it's February 4th, so still time to get this scheduled.

Man, I hate when a recruit looks like they are all Irish or at least really close and they take a visit to another school and everything shifts. Taylor has worked his butt off for this kid and if course he can go wherever he wants but this one will sting if he doesn't pick ND.

It's still early, I think ND will put in the work (even if he commits to Clemson). Didn't Kelly also go with Taylor to visit? Oh wait I forgot Kelly doesn't recruit.

I like ND's chances.

His other lead schools are mostly Carolina-based, right? A sign he values being close to home? And it’s friggin’ Clemson.
I’d like our chances on this one against literally any other school, given the inroads we’ve already made. But if Dabo really wants him this is going to be hard to win.

Guys like this are always confusing...

They talk about how great ND is, the academics, the opportunities and then forget all about it when a non academic, power football school offers. I mean, the kid is a top RB, didnt he think he wouldnt get power football school offers?

It's one thing to get an "offer". It's another thing when Dabo and Saban are showing up at your school. ND has done great work here, but I just don't see it playing our in our favor in the end. Again, would love nothing more than to be wrong here.

Proximity to home has always been a big factor in his decision and it seems like that's what is pulling him in multiple directions. At one point, NCSU was considered a favorite for a top 30-40 recruit, if that tells you anything.

If he was in Indiana, we've probably already wrapped this recruitment up.

NCSt's early position came from both parents being alums and him being around the school growing up.

IF this goes south, I feel bad for Lance Taylor. Dude practically lived in North Carolina.

You think his parents being alums would have the same impact if he lived in Texas? Or California? Or Ohio? The fact they live within a few hours of the campus is probably the pull.

I have no idea how them living elsewhere would have changed things and we'll never know.

In this case, NC St's early connection was family based, Clemson, USC, Wake, Duke & UNC are all closer but NC State came out of the gate early because of his family's connection to the school.

It sounds like everyone is waving the white flag. Is that the consensus?

I think our best hope here is our relationship with him + this RB scaring him off.

ISD had an article way back where Shipley questioned how it'd work with Chris Tyree coming in before him, but that was smoothed over when they two met and he met with the staff.

This guy's a much better RB prospect than Tyree.

1. Best hope is we have the only RB coach to develop a white NFL RB. I'd ride that stereotype like a white stallion into battle all day, every day. AND said RB Coach hasn't been lazy. He's quite possibly the smartest human on the planet for as often as he's stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Matthews.

2. If he EVER says he didn't choose ND cuz of Tyree, he's lying. Tyree will nevah be a feature back who shoulders the load. He's gonna end up a weapon X. ND is actually the PERFECT school to go to if you are a 5* back who can handle the load and wants the ball a lot.

Going to Clemson means giving 5* RB Demarcus Bowman a 12 month headstart plus they already have 4* Phil Mafah signed in '21... nor to mention the rest of their roster including Chez Mellusi and Kobe Pryor, both of which I'd have loved to see in SB.

If he doesn't come to ND, it's because staying close to home and playing for a National Championship was more important than an elite education and playing for the McCaffrey Maker, just as Lucky pointed out.

Spot on.

Use of stereotype works in NDs favor, weaker position group compared to Clemson = more playing time as feature back, but presence of an elite robin side kick. Opportunity and education vs distance and championship chances.

Furthermore, on the elite education, since we don't highlight it enough. There are many rankings to choose from (like AP, coaches, CFP), but 2020 Best National University Rankings as follows for major conference teams:

Stanford #6
Northwestern #9
Duke #10
ND #15
Vandy #15
UCLA #20
Cal #22
USC #22
Michigan #25
Wake Forest #27
Virginia #28
UNC #29
Florida #34
BC #37
Wisconsin #46
Illinois #48
Texas #48
Georgia #50
Ohio St #54
Syracuse #54
FSU #57
Penn St #57
Purdue #57
Miami #57
Pitt #57 (thinking the same thing, too many ties - one, okay, but five?)
Rutgers #62
Washington #62
Maryland #64
Minnesota #70
Texas A&M #70
Clemson #70
V Tech #74
BYU #77
Indiana #79
Baylor #79
Iowa #84
Michigan St #84
NC St #84
TCU #97
Colorado #104
Oregon #104
