My only guess would be is that he knows he intends to, but will wait for a more appropriate time to officially do it.
This feels like the most likely theory at this point. On3 knows it's coming despite it not being official yet.

Of course it's not out of the question that they could've made a total mistake.

Hoping Rubio stays but fearing he is likely gone.

Or, he intends to now, but changes his mind. That happens sometimes.

Unless he's really unhappy or knows we're recruiting over him pretty hard, it doesn't make a ton of sense to leave. He's a likely starter next year and perhaps our best returning DL (along with Onye who's also a question mark). But doesn't seem like he's shown enough to command big NIL elsewhere. I do wonder if this has something to do with his absence in the spring.

O’Malley says they should have clarity after next presser. Hard to chalk it up to an error by On3 other than posting it earlier than they were supposed to. I believe CFP players get an extended window for the portal?

Don’t assume it’s Rubio being disgruntled as it could be grades. Down side w/ that being the case is he may only be eligible for 12/20 game.

They still need 2 DT's at minimum, IMO. II said none of the DT's coming in are plug-and-play and apparently Houstan isn't wowing people.

Retaining him is just as important as any portal addition.
Forgive my ignorance but has he produced at all as a backup prior? Asking because I dont know. I understand he has been in the program for years but just wondering what the above comment was based upon.

Hard to judge him on this year’s performance b/c of how much time he missed. He missed the Spring due to personal reasons. He missed the first part of the regular season due to injury. I think we all want to see what he can do w/ an offseason, spring & fall camp under his belt.

Last year he was really solid pre-injury. This year he’s been close to that level since returning. His stats won’t flash because of his role, but he’s been good for us in the past

Yeah, Rubio's been a very solid rotational DL for us when available over the last couple seasons. Especially against the run. More to the point, aside from Hinish he's the only one we have coming back next year with any meaningful experience.

If Onye isn't coming back you need 1 starting caliber guy and a guy who can take 10-15 snaps a game. You can't go into next year and plan on starting Hinish I'm sorry

Wait, what? What happened to the talks that ND has two (2) SEC DTs in the bag, and they're just waiting until after the playoffs to announce?

Rubio + Onye + Hinish + Mukam + Sevillano would hypothetically be a solid 2025 DT rotation. Sucks that is seems like Onye won't be back.
Has anyone heard about what Devan Houstan will he even break the rotation or is he a portal candidate for more playing time somewhere else.

Prister said something along the lines of the reason they don’t talk about him is because they haven’t really heard anything positive about him.
