The Chargers have a pretty good LT right now. They've got a lot of holes on their roster but LT ain't one of them. They're supposed to be a line candidate for a trade down.

The draftniks who project Alt to go to the Chargers have taken that into account and believe they will move him over to RT. They think Harbaugh wants a dominant OL and drafting Alt to go along with their pro-bowl LT will go a long way towards that goal.

Yeah I agree with them that Harbaugh wants a dominant OL but he’s done a great job of developing those without a high draft pick in SF. Herbert absolutely needs weapons since it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they cut both Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. But I think what fits their need and Harbaugh’s desire to retool the OL could be a trade down into the teens with some team looking to get QB4 and then drafting JC Latham or Wimms from Georgia.

he'd be a top3 pick in a normal year if there weren't so many QB needy teams and a generational WR class
What Alt needs to improve on can actually be improved. He needs to be quicker with his hands. Skill, size are already there. His flaws are correctable and can be worked on. Major advantage for him going forward.

I think I say this without bias, but this is probably the safest pick in the draft more than any other player. Barring injury, I don't think Alt is going to suck. It's like Joe Thomas 2007 safe.
I was just saying the same thing to my coworker this morning. On top of everything else, he even has a spotless health history.

i cant fiqure out why i care so much about what these recruiting services have to say about NDs recruits. i don't know the numbers but i would guess that more 3-stars get drafted in the first round then 5-stars.

Harbaugh going with an LOT is very on brand.

Joe is a very large human being. You get a better appreciation for it when he's in street clothes at his draft party and hugs his mom, or even Marcus Freeman.

Interesting...reading he will most likely start out at RT since the Chargers have Rashawn Slater at LT.

This was expected and part of the reason why people thought the Chargers would pass on Alt. Slater is a very good young tackle and moving him even for Alt might not sit very well.

Well I'd imagine that would have to be true with there being hundreds of 3-stars and like 25-30 5-star players in each class.

There's absolutely a case that the services get a lot of 5 stars wrong, but 5 stars by far have the highest percentage of 1st round draft picks from an odds standpoint.

Whole lot of Chargers weirdos on Twitter who think a head coach who built his brand on giant, dominant OLs drafting an All-Pro LT instead of one of a million available WRs is a bad decision for the team’s future.

Cowboys were disappointed 10 years ago when Jerry took ZMart over Johnny Football. They're pretty happy now in the comments:
