'21 IL QB JJ McCarthy (Michigan Verbal)

The season McCarthy just turned in as a passer far exceeds Phil's soph year and basically mirrors Phil's Senior year passing #'s. Yeah, surprised me too.

Not considering passing numbers, Phil was an advanced athlete with better size. I would assume with Pyne in the fold already, the staff probably covets some size at the position. JJ is starting to hit that growth spurt. Which is kind of the point. No need to rush the process when it's not even "late" in said process.

So, JJ is clearly near the top of the list along with some pretty big names. JJ was visited by Rees on Tuesday.

Doesn't appear they care much about prototypical size (height). Phil's the only guy in their funnel that's above 6-2. Both 2021 QB offers (Stone & Buchner) are 6-2, along with McCarthy. The next kid they like is Jake Rubley, he's listed at 6-3.

Last time the staff had him workout, ISD had JJ at 6'1 175. At that time, Buchner was being listed at 6'2 200. That's a huge difference. If you watch JJ's film from 2017 to 2018, they look completely different. Hence, him being looked at as 1 of 3-4 2021 QB's now.

Not sure about other staffs but a lot of times when the entire staff is out on the road, they put out new offers once they get back and have vetted all the information. I think some coaches probably have more autonomy than others.

Wisconsin offered so it forced some hands is my guess. Most schools are out on the trail right now. Rees was at Naz Tuesday, didn’t offer, my info isn’t coming from him or the McCarthy’s. I try to stay out as much as possible! A third party insisted ND would offer Monday, we’ll see. I’m hopeful.

So nice to have Book playing well (with 2 years eligibility), PJ learning (with 4), two years out locked up, and working on 2021.

Yep. I'm here with ya and love me some Cali QB's but JJ McCarthy's Soph film already looks like KJ Costello's Jr season at SMC. Yes, Tyler Buchner appears to be an athletic freak with serious ceiling, and maybe in this case serious interest in the Irish. He's also got seriously injured and who knows what he is when he comes back? Will he be a 70%/3500/37TD-4Int guy against a schedule that's better than anything San Diego can throw at him? I'm not sure he could've done that pre-injury. Film says the best option in the '21 class is just 2 hrs from the stadium including traffic.

Good news is Naz says ND has told him they will reevaluate at the start of the year. Hopefully and Offer/Commitment soon follows.

Looking at the rest of the posts but I quote this one because Crus is right. His film looks legit. He will grow in time. Offer this kid and move one.

Added Illini and Minnesota offers this week.

Was named 1st Team All State by Rivals' EdgyTim.

He's easily the best prospect in the state and I'd say the best player in the state right now regardless of class.

No, not yet. They haven't offered any of the 21' QB's they recently visited (outside of Buchner already having one). The staff is still out on the road recruiting so the QB scholarships might take some time. Really that's just a guess but it's not like McCarthy is getting past up for other 21' QB's they've recently visited.

I hope they offer soon. I'm sold on JJ's accuracy and arm strength. He's a sophomore and he was dropping dimes. He throws WRs open as well.

At what level do you think Diamond Evans could play? I think he has P5 film and he was a monster during 7v7 lst summer.
