Sadly I think Buchner was reading his own press and thinking he was better than he is. I get it, confidence in your own abilities is needed to be a QB at a high level. However, I think it crossed over into arrogance for Buchner.

Always saw it as a bad move, even though like many I feared we were wrong and he would turn out to be a stud at Bama. But, hey, now what many of us saw/sensed/understood is showing itself to be true. He has talent, but he doesn't have "it."

Have to wonder what Tommy told him or what he was promised. I'm all for betting on yourself but man, not sure that was the path to do it.
This is exactly where I'm at. I think he was convinced that he would be the starter on a loaded team but really Tommy was just trying to build out his QB room with depth.

"You want a fresh start? Come with me. You know my whole offense already. You'll have a leg up on the other guys, and you'll be throwing TD's while the other guys are still learning how to scan and check-with-me properly." - Tommy Rees, not realizing just how much control of the offensive playbook Saban ACTUALLY has.

I prefer to just chalk the whole move to just naivete on the part of both Rees and Buchner. Neither will be at Alabama for long.

If Bama wins the SEC West, Milroe might end up as a de facto heisman finalist. He’s gonna run for over 1,000 yards and a shit ton of TDs.

When Buchner left Freeman said something about him being welcome to come back.

I wonder if Tyler was sold on the idea of taking his shot at Alabama this year instead of riding the bench. If that didn't work out, then returning to ND as a grad transfer after Hartman was gone.

Couple things

we don’t know if Milroe will start the whole year

and Tommy learned from his lack of depth last year

Too be honest nothing against Tyler but he made his decision and will have to live with it I think ND will be better off whoever ends up being QB next year.

Tyler knew there was a 0% chance of him being the starting QB at ND for 2023. He also knew that his chance of being the starting QB at Alabama for 2023 was >0%. His only college QB Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Recruiter went to Alabama.

Not saying that I agree with him leaving ND, but it makes sense to me. Could be an advantage if he wants to coach in the future.

Should've transferred to ASU if we're being honest here. Pyne was QB1 there before an injury......and we know that he wasn't even in the same realm as Buchner when he was at ND.

I believe that was indicated before Buchner committed to Bama (ie he was welcome to pull his name out of the portal and return in 2023).

I'd be surprised if Saban didn't plop his balls on the table during the interview with Rees and state that he'd be calling plays out of the bama offense.
Now, as to what TR told buchner, it's another story.
Get your popcorn ready for this saga.

Notre Dame will most likely bring in another transfer for a year to battle with Angeli and Minchey, I could see Minchey or Angeli both winning the job tho. Then CJ Carr takes over in 2025 or 2026.

He ain't coming back.
If they don't believe Angeli or Minchey is ready, take another proven portal qb.
The success they have with Hartman this year will convince Freeman and Parkerof that.
Yeah next year could be sketchy. Don’t they open in College Station?

The opener is at Texas A&M, but honestly the rest of the schedule is pretty manageable. If we can't find another Hartman I'd rather try to develop one of these QBs we recruited.

Agree. I also think though, if he stayed, it could’ve stunted the growth of Minchey, Angeli, Carr and ND in general since he has a low ceiling imo. I think he’d have started in 2024 and 2025 and been just okay. Instead, it’ll likely be a Gameday decision between Minchey, Angeli and Carr (I see the above as the depth chart next season) for who takes the field vs ATM. All of them will get more reps, hype, and be less likely to transfer before the 2025 season.

Milroe at QB means Bama is going to be losing to Georgia, probably LSU and maybe Texas.

Texas will have one of their QB’s transfer same with Ohio State if we don’t feel comfortable with what we have there will be plenty of options

Idk. At some point it would be nice to see the qbs we actually recruited.
I would as well, but surely not at the expense of watching another mediocre offense/team, right?
We're a game into the season, and I've already seen ND play a MUCH better brand of offense than all of last year. Will there be bumps and frustrating moments? Of course. But Marshall and Cal ain't happening as long as Hartman is playing.

A season of Hartman will wake up the echoes of superior Qb play. Reverting back won't be tolerable.
