The reality with Absher:

- They moved Lambert to RG from RT to give him competition. They are moving Augustine to RG from RT to give him competition. They are now considering moving Craig to RG from C to give him competition.

At no point have they ever shown they are confident Absher is among the best 5, nor should they IMO.

Yesh if the coaches are constantly moving people around when it looks like your runway is clear, it says a lot.

Personally, without any inside intel, I think you will be fine at QB without needing a transfer. You have 3 quality scholarship guys to compete, one of them will be an upper classmen in Hebert who will have been in the system for his third offseason, along with Grubbs and Jarrard.

It definitely seems like Jarrard has the highest ceiling based on early camp reports so I wouldn't be surprised if he won the job as a Sophomore. He starts for two years, minimum, and Champ is waiting in the wings. (this is assuming Carr is drafted top 10 next year and declares).

Either way, future of the QB position sure seems bright. No transfers necessary.
Only thing I would add to this is that the main reason teams dip into the portal for a QB is you are buying proven experience. This will become increasingly more difficult if anything like the PCSA passes because the "retention pool" will get used on guys like Leavitt and Mensah and Hoover to stop them from transferring up for more $$. Until that or some other regulation passes though, I would be surprised if a team like ND wouldn't look at transfer options on a yearly basis unless returning a proven starter.

The alternative is rolling the dice on someone like Jarrard and praying he's a hit and also living with the mistakes of a new player. When you grab a transfer, they did all that learning/growing on someone else's dime.

All the discussion on the boundary WR position and realistically it would be a shock to see anyone but Micah Gilbert get the Week 1 nod.

The bigger question is whether some young guy works their way into reps over the year and if Porter is a factor at all. All reports going back to last spring (and now continuing into the fall) is that Porter is nowhere close to being physically ready to run / compete at a high level.

Feels like he will be a mid season call up

If Teddy wins the #2 early in the year I doubt they go to the portal. That much movement from no ball to now is significant, give him a year and it's his.

If things with our OLine go a certain way, we might be watching the best Center in the nation playing GUARD. ... boggled.

And on Abshur: Just an opinion, but I see this searching around for a "best" RG as NOT a serious knock on him, but because this OLine room is just so damm good. I can't quite suss what Coach Rudolph sees missing in Abshur, but it must be something like not making the correct run block read now and then (The kind of problem Braxton Cave had long ago.) Abshur seems to have plenty of power and toughness and hustle, and they weren't just pouring through his area to the QB a year ago, so .... "not seeing some things?" That's a problem difficult for a fan to note, since we don't know the exact play/scheme called when something breaks down. Some insider might know where the flaw is (though I bet, like the four guys we had playing for other teams via transfer last year, he'd start almost anywhere and they'd be glad to have him.)

Not the OL guru here but I’ve always found him surprisingly weak in the run game. He’s been fine in pass pro. Surprising given his HS offense and size.

If we have to ride with a 6'7", 325 LB 4th year guy with 5 stars under his belt, while knowing that we'll get Augustine, Jagusah back in ~6 weeks, we'll be ok.

Last comment on WRs -- everyone seems very bullish on the freshmen. There are five of them so I assume some won't pan out. But they probably have at least three "hits" in that class. If you can play boundary, then that's the best path for them to get on the field, but I also wouldn't be shocked to see gadget stuff for Frazier or Fitzgerald used in the red zone for his hands or stuff like that.

Would it be nice to have Jeremiah Smith, Cam Coleman, and Malachi Toney as our three WRs? Absolutely. But this is such a far cry from a few years ago where we were literally plucking true freshman zero star walk ons off the Scout Team midseason to start. There is a LOT of depth, and after a few weeks the cream will rise to the top.

I can't watch that goofy bitch. On his podcast, when he talks it's like an autistic bobble-head .... back-and-forth like he has to thrust to get words out.

tbh the headline is more glowing than the article. Basically just Partridge said he’s no longer thinking about what he needs to do/translating old terminology and just showing talent now.
