And it was one practice lol. They may know Hobbs is cb3 and need to find out who cb4 is to determine redshirts and special teams

They may know that. They also may not? Idk I guess I don’t see that Hobbs has done anything to be locked into a spot so much as he doesn’t need every rep possible there.

Minchey makes sense for a couple of reasons:

An extra year in the system compared to Carr.

Denbrock historically has done his best work with mobile QBs

Probably has the bigger cannon of the two
All reports I’ve seen Carr has the better arm?

Omg. Who the f@ck cares. It’s stretching. If he wasn’t the QB at ND, no one would bat an eye at this.

Agree. If the headline was "Bothelo excercises with bands separate from team during stretches" no one would care AND it would be presumed it was due to the injury. Because this is a QB it's some referendum on his whole personality.

No different than a pitcher warming up separately from the rest of the team. If he needs more throws to get his arm ready for practice, so be it. It’s a non issue. Even if he was a 4th string coming off an injury.

He repped primarily outside all spring

He repped primarily outside all spring

- Golden and Zackery weren’t here in the spring. The alternative was rep Chance Tucker there.

- He was #2 Field and Nickel.

- He was #1 Nickel down the stretch because Smith sat out, not playing the Field. All the talk all spring and summer was he seems to have a good future at Nickel.

- Even if that was the case, that still doesn’t change that nothing Hobbs has done has proven he’s so entrenched as the #3 outside CB that he doesn’t need every single rep possible.

You don’t want your leader to be well-liked, you want them to be respected and a little feared. If the rest of the guys on the team aren’t saying, “What the fuck is his problem???” a few times a week, guy probably isn’t the leader the team needs.

I feel like I've seen a lot posts similar to this, and I don't think they really addresses the core of what seems a little "off". Not a "big issue", per se, but anyone who has coached would tell you that you can't just opt out of team stretching or team cooldowns or team condition without implying "this isn't important." There isn't room for someone to say "I'm going to do my own thing" without there being bigger implications. The exception is always treatment/injury related alternate activity, but that's not what CJ said was going on.

The major caveat, and what I would expect is closest to the truth, is that he needs a little more time to get his arm warm because of the past injury but doesn't want to say anything about the injury for obvious reasons. And so he's following the prescribed plan but have a nonsense answer to a dumb question, which makes this a total nothingburger.

I think my reasoning that this isn't a big deal is that I think its much more likely that Carr has an understandable reason for doing this rather than the alternative that Carr has suddenly become socially retarded and thinks he's above the team before he's even become a starter.

If he had a Dante Moore style recruitment or had been a drama queen about not playing last year I might think differently. So far (at least publicly) he's been the definition of a model citizen and exactly what you want from a highly rated QB in waiting.

If I assume this is actually a thing and something that should be analyzed, then I’m inherently assuming Freeman and company don’t understand the team dynamics folks are harping on.

Well that’s something I feel rather safe not agreeing with.

B Young is really starting to fill out. He’s gonna be a problem.

Man Hinish is tiny lol. He’s listed at 6’2” but 5’11” feels more accurate.

Booby Traore just looks like a NFL edge. Filled out so well.

I’m just a 40-something alum who lives 900 miles from campus and has zero connections so wtf do I know. But I worry just a little that Carr might be wound too tight for this game.

That’s what I take from the warmup thing, the comment about how interceptions mess him up, even the fact that he comes from football royalty but played small-school ball in high school and never really got punched in the mouth. He has always been the chosen one, and that’s a lot of pressure. He seems to feel it.

Minchey? He was kind of overlooked as a recruit (but played big time high school ball). He’s been overlooked since he stepped on campus. He seems aware that there’s more to life than football. But he carries himself like a kid who knows what he’s about. Even the fact that he’s still at Notre Dame when a lot of guys would have transferred out speaks to a certain self-confidence that can take you a long way.

I agree Carr has the better arm. And if his head is right he could be great. But Minchey’s pretty talented too and wouldn’t be at all surprised if he winds up the better college football player.

What is this board going to do when Carr throws 1 interception in a real game, want him benched?? He is going to throw an interception, he is a rookie on the field.

Let's look at the brighter side that our defense could be this damn good.

We will yell, scream and question if Freeman is ruining the program in the game day thread, like a real man would do.

I agree with this. The pressure on Carr is very high. I do not know if he can handle or it or not, but we can't risk it if he can't. We all know how Dayne Crist worked out. A total bust as a 5 star. He had no confidence and the lights were too bright for him. This is big boy football at the biggest program around. QB is not all physical. Hope Carr has the "it" factor and is ready for the moment or Minchey will be up.
