Soble's sources expect JRK and Davis to be the only departures. Fluid of course.

Maybe I need to take the blue and gold glasses off, but we know that Shrews can recruit and if ND is willing to spend, the message of come play with the best returning point guard in the country should resonate with some quality transfers.
If true this is terrific news. I expected worse.
Burton, of course, is the key. We need to land a couple of bigs with the two open spots. Or more if they change the limit to 15

Mater Dei grad. Certainly would be a sign the money is there now. He’s been mentioned with UNC, Louisville, and Kentucky among a bunch of others.

Just curious, does anyone else no longer give a shit about basketball anymore? It might be worse than the NBA in terms of how long you can expect to keep a team together. The NIL completely destroyed it, huh? At least football maintains most players. It was nice to make the elite 8 a couple times last decade, but who cares at all now? Even if we bought a team of studs for a year, will that be fulfilling? I mean it would be great if we could build a team of 3/4 star 4 year guys. Maybe the goal is to take the team in that direction🤷‍♂️

The entire starting 5 from George Mason entered the portal after their first round loss. I find it hard to believe that they will defend their Horizon League title from this year.

For a Notre Dame football fan it helps pass the time until football again. But I used to LOVE college basketball. Indiana State last year did me in. It was our best year since Bird. We miss the dance by one team, go to the NIT Final…and the coach leaves and the entire starting 5 xfers to Texas/StL/Xavier. Gutted the program.

This would be a huge step in the right direction.
Awesome to see a guy like Rex help with this one, even though he has no connection to the current roster, or coaching staff.

Reminds me why I care about this program, that has just been a constant negative on the court for the majority overall for my life! Haha

I still follow it, but not with the same interest I use to. I have more interest once the tournament starts, but it has lost some of its appeal

I’m in the same boat……..I still have a tough time watching and comparing it to how the game used to be played not so long ago. I find myself analyzing: so much one on one, slapping down at the ball, what used to be traveling and carrying the ball, lowering the shoulder and barreling into the defender when the defender is in position, etc, It‘s so completely different than the way I was taught to play but I like everything else, things change over time. The constant jawing/gesturing by the players at the other team, the crowd and the refs is also pretty irritating. That‘s always been a part of the game but now it is the game.

3rd team in three years. I am so over this stuff. Impossible to fall in love with a team or player when they change teams more than underwear.
I hope the whole systems implodes on itself.

Speaking of what is going on in college basketball. St. Francis (PA.) has announced they will transition all sports from D1 (FCS football) to DIII due to NIL, recruiting, and more. Announced right after they made the tournament for the first time since 1991.

They won't be the last to make the move. I think most of the "have nots" of D1 will have to do similar because they will never be able to compete with the NiL funding of the larger programs and the sports for the most part are not profitable. The greed of NiL will cost many kids the opportunity of a college education as schools move to D3 and the scholarship levels dwindle.

I truly think this is what the SECs of the world want. They will not have to split their revenues with other teams if they are all that remain.

Commodification of sports (especially college) is on a train that cannot be stopped. It's truly a sad thing to watch. People will argue that the best will be playing the best, and this is great. They will continue to miss the essence of college sport, and what makes March Madness a truly unique and FUN event.

All in the name of $$$ and hoarding of talent, coaches, fans, etc.

some on the outside might think this is a weird move, but unfortunately it’s not. Ever since the portal started their FB and MBBALL teams have been getting crushed by the portal and NIL. You throw in the new revenue sharing issues and it’s a model that isn’t sustainable for them. The timing of the move is little strange since they just made the tourney but they caught lightning in a bottle in the NEC tournament.

If memory serves me correct. I think the University of Hartford just made this same move 4-5ish years ago. Unfortunately I don’t think these schools will be the last.

Didn't sign with the school he originally committed to, either (psu)

True and the “haves” liking it is why nothing seems to be happening in regards to codifying rules to mitigate unlimited free agency with no constraints on money paid out.
