Right. People need to get it out of their heads that Notre Dame is bringing in an undergrad at any position. It was difficult to get Brandon Joseph from Northwestern - they ain’t bringing in someone from a school with an even lower academic profile.

Notre Dame has taken JUCOs in baseball, and undergrad transfers in every other sport. One of ND basketball's best players of the last decade was an undergrad transfer who spent 2 years at Mississippi State (Ben Hansbrough). So either the admin is putting specific restrictions on the football program and not other sports (IMO unlikely) or it's not as hard as it's being made out to be to get undergrad transfers into ND.

The courses matter probably more than the grades, TBH. Those large state schools you mention - all of which are excellent universities of course - offer a lot of (often easier) majors that we don't. If you're majoring in kinesiology or criminal justice you may not have enough relevant credits to transfer and graduate on time from Notre Dame, while also having time to take some (rather unique) Notre Dame course requirements like two semesters each of philosophy and theology.

Agree. Gender Studies likely won’t cut it at ND. I think you essentially need the QB finance/engineering major type that isn’t bs’ing. They’re out there some years, but not a dime a dozen by any means. I’d imagine if they’re willing to forgo some credits that won’t transfer, it’s an easier process, but even then, they’re going to need all A’s unless it’s from a higher rated school.

Most athletes of not football know they are going pro in something other than sports from the beginning

So put em in American Studies or FTT. It's what they did with Hansbrough who majored in "Fitness Management" At Mississippi State.

Has almost nothing to do with Majors. Almost entirely revolving around the expectation that the student can squeeze in the core curriculum requirements and still graduate within the normal 4 year time span.

Potential Senior transfers are impossible.
Potential Junior transfers are nearly impossible.

Only way it changes is if ND relaxes the 4 year graduation expectation.

I wonder if they take JUCOs for baseball b/c of the minimal amount of scholarship they can provide? Surely they help those kids find other ways to reduce costs at a place like ND/

The simpler solution, ND changes their policy of only accepting non grad transfers that they think can graduate within 4 years from when the player first attended college.

it is either that or just admit ND football is happy to just make up the numbers. Stop hoodwinking the football fans.

ND admissions should require the football players to stay for 4 years and sign a scholarship contract that they can’t go to the NFL after 3 unless they have completed the degree in 3years or they have to give the scholarship money back with interest.

I'd add Cade McNamara as a very serious contender to make that list. Yes, he ditched us. Yes, that is hard to accept. He would quickly get our offense going. He seems to have a tough guy attitude that is sorely lacking at the position. He clearly likes ND because we made his top 2. But, he is better than what we have and ND needs to do what's best for ND and swallow their pride if he wants in. Buchner is a staircase away from a season ending injury, didn't look very good when he did play, and Pyne just isn't it.

100% agree. I think the issue with McNamara is he will want a starting job and he will have to compete for it at Notre Dame. He will likely end up going somewhere with less of a competition for the job

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'd tell Cade the job is his unless we can find a better QB.
