I assume many programs attempted to get Armstrong last year. Kid bet on his team once already. Just like Zay Flowers. Not working out great. Price of loyalty in the portal era.
Worked out for Sean Tucker at Syracuse. He admitted that multiple teams contacted him about transferring after last season but he was confident this would be the year they put it together. Dude is a stud. Still can’t figure out why he only had 5 carries vs Clemson. Guess they wanted to save him for ND…LOL

Armstrong is a stud and it makes sense that he would use another year in college at another program to boost his NFL stock because Virginia has been a disaster to this point and his numbers have nose dived.

If he did enter the portal he would have his pick of landing spots. I don't know offhand who else would be gunning for him but I wish ND had a better situation to sell him. At least the OL should be attractive.
If ND wants him & he’s interested, there is zero excuse for ND to not secure him. I listened to the same pod when Pete mentioned it. He noted he was texting w/ someone while watching UVA vs GT and that he was told Armstrong wanted to come to Notre Dame. He never mentioned who this person was that told him that but I re-listened to it to make sure and he stated ”Brennan Armstrong wants to come to Notre Dame”…at which point Prister said he’d drive to Brennan’s house and pick him up.

Most think his play has been adversely affected by a change in OC. Robert Anae, who is doing a great job at Syracuse this season; was his OC last year. I think the QB Coach went to SU as well.
Jason Beck, yeah.

MF is gonna have a ton of applicants.

This might be insane, but could Avery Davis come back and start at QB? Nobody would demand more respect. And he’s smart with the football and likely way faster now than he was here. While we’d all like to think Buchner or Pyne is the man, do any of us really think it? Could Davis really be any worse?

Before you laugh this off…

I’d take him in a heartbeat. No one on Notre Dame’s current roster is in the same galaxy as that kid. I don’t blame this year on him - he lost literally everything he had going for him last year.
I don’t either, but he has a history of injuries. If I recall, he wasn’t able to play vs ND a few yrs ago bc he was hurt.

The funny thing is that if Avery was healthy this year, he could possibly be the next man in.

No, it would be pretty awful. You’re playing up the “feel good” story instead of thinking about what’s best in football terms.
it would be fun if he was actually a functioning qb. obviously it wouldnt if he was insanely rusty

They should try flipping one of the bama recruits for QB
A little surprised that neither we nor anyone else hasn't made more of a run at Holstein. That said, we need a transfer for '23 no matter who (if anyone) we get as an incoming freshman.

I give Tommy the benefit of the doubt in effort, assuming they've tried to get just about anyone for the '23 QB position, but not everyone is a convincing QB recruiter. If they have not tried to pull out all the stops for a '23, then that is an entirely different level of concern. I won't pretend to know what is going on behind the scenes in QB recruiting, but it doesn't appear to most fans to be enough. I think today a lot of kids just assume they can transfer if it doesn't work out (i.e., doubling up on QB's for Bama in '23). Getting schooled as a QB under Saban's regime and having to transfer to someplace else if it doesn't work out isn't the worst thing for a young QB.

If I am most any other top program vying for a '23 QB, I likely have a lot of negative things to say about TR, using evidence, and a lot of good things to say about myself to get you to commit to my school over ND.

I would be highly suspicious if no teams reached out to either Bama QB recruit at some point. Either they are drinking what Saban is serving and both intend to go there to prove themselves or they are being extremely secretive about everything.

All of this is predicated on credits being able to transfer into ND, correct? Which basically limits them to grad transfers.

Yep. We basically can't play for the pool of five stars stuck behind another five star who bail after their freshman year. Pretty much best we can hope for is a grad transfer w/two years of eligibility who wants a bigger stage.

Grad transfers and freshman, essentially. Freshman aren't too far into their major and many of these elective/prerequisite credits will transfer over or they can make them up in time. Anything after freshman year that isn't a grad transfer is near impossible from a football perspective.

Which is why completely missing on a '23 QB is especially disadvantageous.

Simple solution for the undergrad transfer problem that ND has - if the player had an offer out of HS from ND, Stanford, NW, Vandy, Duke, WF, UVA, and Cal they should be able to transfer to ND.

What you don’t like BC?

Its really not so much about their ability to qualify for admissions as whether they have transferable credits to graduate on time once they’re here. A freshman or maybe sophomore coming from most of these schools likely would (maybe not Cal), which is why our few successful undergrad transfers have come from places like Northwestern, Navy and USC.

But that’s a lot different than Vandy offering you a scholarship when you’re a junior in high school (and then you go major in phys Ed at Memphis). An offer doesn’t mean much. We offer kids all the time who ultimately don’t qualify academically to Notre Dame.

The simpler solution, ND changes their policy of only accepting non grad transfers that they think can graduate within 4 years from when the player first attended college.

I am be mistaken, but I remember hearing that Longeran is a top baseball prospect and may choose the MLB over football.

This. Offer out of HS means nothing to this process.

Now certain kids who got said offers may profile better as having completed proper coursework at whatever college they’ve chosen. But it’s not directly connected.

Didn't hear that, but honestly didn't look. Makes complete sense then. The good ole Bubba Starling approach!
