If ND can drop a bigger bag for Hartman than SEC schools that print money then money isn't an excuse. ISD said on their Youtube show recently that ND can compete with pretty much anyone with NIL for grad transfers and players currently on the roster.
The point is we can selectively fill holes with NIL-funded grad transfers - QB next year for instance, hopefully a good outside WR, etc - but that's maybe a half-dozen guys on the two-deep. We're not going the FSU/LSU route, we shouldn't and we can't. And with the exception of maybe FSU none of the teams that have gone that route are actually that good.
End of the day Notre Dame needs to develop its own players.

I'm thinking MF isn't going to do anything until end of season - other than some play calling machinations with Gino, etc. - so as not to disrupt the team and program for now.

If he thought GG was the solution, it would have happened already.

I just meant I think he's gonna work through final two games with an interim plan of some kind where Parker is not officially demoted (or is) and for sure not fired yet and where others will be involved (announced or not) with play calling. Then after the Stanford game, he and admin move fast since they will need to for all the reasons we've outlined here. If it's anything else, we're in trouble in '24.

I’m fine with him doing nothing publicly if he does the football coaching equivalent of what I do for my 2/3 year olds in the car and give them cell phones, tablets, and steering wheels that don’t actually work.

Give him a clipboard with a few coloring pages, connect the dots, and plug Cocomelon into his headset and let er rip with Gino calling plays. The illusion is to make Gertrude Pucker think he’s calling plays.

Problem solved.

Maybe Parker can learn a thing or two and apologize to all of us.

When you make somebody sad, oops
What's the word you say?
Hmm
Sorry, sorry, sorry

Sorry, excuse me, sorry, excuse me
These are the nice words you can say
Sorry, excuse me, sorry, excuse me
To help make things okay

I’m really interested in how Hartman’s legacy will ultimately be perceived at ND.

How will the fans look back on him in 10, 15 years? Likewise, how will he look back on his time at ND? Favorably? A short pit stop? A flat tire in his ultimate journey/football career?

He holds a plethora of records from his WF days, and he’s generated a ton of excitement and optimism when he announced that he’d transfer to ND. Say what you want, but he really energized the team and fan base.

And, unlike some (especially after reading the Clemson game thread), I still think he’s a very, very good NCAA QB. I really do. But, for whatever reason, it just hasn’t worked out according to plan. Who would he pass blame to — GP, Gino, WRs, maybe MF? It’s a pretty interesting situation, overall.

A very good rep for the university. However a very average player.

I was told by a reliable source his total NIL potential was $2MM. Not sure how much he got.
Potential? Performance or bowl tie ins? How does someone guess at his potential NIL worth?

I'm not saying I don't believe you, just a peculiar answer I guess. TBF I think Sam has been very well paid this year

So reports of gino being more involved with the play along last few weeks and us reportedly giving him the whole show should make us feel....

Lcaps the guy said he actually got $2MM but I think that has to be a figure including incentives??? So perhaps it is $2mm flat and I am wrong in thinking there were incentives or performance metrics tie-ins.

...like MF realizes that Parker is in over his head and Gino is a place holder until the end of the season.

Lcaps- what’s the difference between a Bot member and a BOT called a Hesburgh Trustee? Is that a Trustee of the Library Capital Csmpaign or ?

The info I have lately is tied to a so called Hesburgh Trustee…. But I think the person was previously a normal Trustee.

That Gino sucks at OC/Play calling just as much as he sucks at QB development.

No idea, wasn't doubting your information. Just thought the way it was presented was interesting with the use of potential. 2 million for a guy who probably won't be drafted is a nice little nest egg for Hartman.

Not a top 20 transfer destination for a QB as I type this. I'm sure their are kids out there thinking "If SH couldn't do it after 11 years and 54,000 games....No way I can"

Money can solve that. Miami and Oklahoma had no business landing several highly-ranked players in the 2023 recruiting class, given how mediocre their on-field product was in 2022, but they bought them. If ND can outbid Auburn and Florida for Sam Hartman then there's no excuse for them to not buy Michael Pratt. Money isn't an issue.

I am a BIG Pratt guy, and my best case is we get him and his OC. However if we don't... I am confident in our stable of QB's as long as we get a competent OC such as Nagle, Lewis, Moorhead ect.... I think there is enough to work with.

I'm just worried about having an unproven QB making their first start in College Station. A&M has legit talent on defense, and if they can hire a quality HC, they could be dangerous. Although they're 6-4, they've lost 3 games by 7 points or less - all of them with their backup QB. If Weigman wasn't injured they probably would've won 2 of those 3 games.

I understand, but if you're Pratt....And ND offers you 2 million and Wash and Oregon offer you 1 million. Would you go to ND after what happened with Hartman this year....Or would you go to Wash or Oregon have a better chance to ball out and get drafted much higher. Also, it would be naive to think Wash or Oregon would come in that much lower...But you get my point.

This is a reason to move sooner rather than later on the OC decision.
If you’re going to replace Parker, you want to do it early enough that the new guy can recruit a transfer QB. Because yes most of the good ones are going to look over the current situation and say no thanks.

There are some really good OC and QB combinations out there (not so much that we need to get both but that more so highlights that they are mostly from non-major teams who are doing good, successful things that should look to tap into for our GT QB and/or OC). Here are some good combinations with the OC listed first:
  • Tulane: Slade Nagle and Michael Pratt
  • Texas State: Mack Leftwich and TJ Finley
  • JMU: Michael Shanahan (in no way related to the famous coach) and Jordan McCloud
    • This is one I’ve most recently become interested in because Shanahan played for college majors (Pitt), spent a few years on NFL teams (on practice teams) and has worked his way up at JMU who are undefeated and he's been able to take a QB on his third college team and make him the #11 rated QB on the latest CF Network list; oh and he is the OC AND WR coach which would be good for ND!
  • Arizona: Brennan Carroll and Jayden de Laura
  • Missouri: Kirby Moore and Brady Cook
  • Oregon State: Brian Lindgren and DJ Uiagalelei
  • UCLA: Ryan Gunderson and Collin Schlee
  • Kansas: Andy Kotelnicki and Jalon Daniels
  • SMU: Casey Woods and Preston Stone
