M’Pemba got NIL’d. He really liked Freeman but then put ND on the back burner when he and people around him realized how much money he could make signing somewhere else.

100% correct here. This ship has sailed.

Little worried about vyper. Need a guy, and if we don’t find someone who fits that bill I would rather go after Dasan.

Is there any legit talk of him hitting the portal? Additionally, since he’s an undergrad, it may be very difficult for him to transfer to ND.

I think the main thing was his father coaches at ND and, since he is a freshman, it would be easier to transfer in than someone further along in their studies.

Loy included this kid, Wake commit as a target - never heard of him:

Would be odd if we are truly on the cusp of landing Love and Lyons.
The people who are paid to hear of him haven't either. Don't even sweat it.

Wake Forest is one of those teams that seems to be good at evaluating talent. They find it, then all the big money programs come offering the guys they find.

I certainly hope the administration will be more lenient with the transfer requirements. If a undergrad transfer had a ND/Stanford/NW offer out of HS and has held their own in college they should easily be able to transfer to ND. Hopefully Freeman can sweet talk the powers that be into changing the transfer requirements.

ND can get these type of underclassmen transfers Freeman or not. Amir Carlisle and Alohi Gilman as a football examples. It's once they really get into their courseload as a sophomore that ND won't accept some credits, and thus, wouldn't be able to graduate on time so they're a no-go. If this is something that Dasan actually wants, you can bet the McCulloughs have taken the steps in the classroom to get to ND.

I like the way you frame this. Hell, let's add a few other schools to that list too while we're at it.

ND should be all about offering the opportunity of higher education instead of acting like closed off elitists. Oh, and they should be all about football too. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

I heard from a source in Ohio sports that he “sucks” and is “barely good enough to start for his team.” TIFWIW. I don’t know shit personally.

That’s a bit extreme but I thought his original ranking was appropriate. 88 type 3 star.

Yeah, I thought he was playing out of control on his film. So he's got some ceiling but is a project.

I would not put him on Shuler's level.

I am convinced the services do random rankings like that so when ND fans scream about them dropping 20 of their 22 commits in the rankings, they can say, "well, we're the only service that is appropriately ranking Ben Minich so stop complaining".

Gabe Brooks just gets off to track times for 247. Not convinced he’s ever turned on a film. He’s just got some master excel sheet that plugs in measurables and the likelihood it projects to the NFL

Oh he ran this track time? That makes him way more likely to be a NFL pick than Player XYZ that we don’t have verified times on.

Basically all of these guys are maturing and improving pretty quickly at their age(s). I think rankings get skewed by who they've seen most recently.

Agree w Dale based on what ive watched. Coverage and size seemed to be lacking. Ideally, Minich is that ST demon on all the run teams where that speed and open field tackling ability can shine.

Re: Minich...he had offers listed from UK, OU, Wake Forest. A lot of MAC schools. I'm not going to assume that none of these people know what it is they're doing/looking for.

2023 overall to present: I like that they appear to be doing all they can to sign a QB in this class and have not given up on that. Nor should they.

Things could be rounding off with Love, Lyons, Hillman and perhaps adding an OL to replace the defection there. Hold onto everyone that is already in the fold as best as possible but be prepared for anything.

Jamie and ISD have him as a 4-star (91).

IMO, that's perfect. Shuler is a notch above him.

I think his evaluation is on point. He's a better coverage safety than many on here are giving him credit for, and his speed is very good for a safety, but on top of that, he's also a very fluid athlete, which shows on film. Having a guy with legit 4.5 speed who can also turn his hips at the snap of a finger is a great asset.

I think Shuler is the better player, but don't knock Minich.

I need play speed out of my safeties more than track speed. I agree with Dale: track time usage is out of hand and has been for years now.

You can run really fast for forty yards unimpeded in a Dri-Fit shirt and shorts? Cool.

Now read your keys and diagnose if the offense is going pass or run. What is the lateral movement like? Is he aggressive? Can he tackle? What is his closing quickness and range? Discipline? Ball awareness and ball skills?

Many years ago, Holtz once said (to paraphrase) it doesn't matter how fast your team is if they don't know what they're doing run in the wrong direction. Hopefully what Minich lacks in athleticism and measurables he can make up by just being a football player.

Minich has excellent lateral movement. That's why I say that simply referring to track speed as a knock on Minich is short-sighted.

Loaded with info, but the one snippet I’ll share:
We’re also more confident than ever in saying that CJ Carr‍ will be the Irish’s quarterback commit in the Class of 2024 and don’t expect that to change.

Hopefully that’s the case. It would be great having a top-tier QB being a lead recruiter in helping to put his class together.

Won't leak too much, but they say Carr is staying in '24 and ND is has been in contact with a specific QB and are optimistic. Sounds like JA or AJ

I would lean Avery Johnson too. Just makes too much sense.

Although, KSU fans would send Notre Dane death threats if we poached their two biggest recruits lol.

Reclassifying is better for ND and better for CJ from a football development perspective if we want him to be the QB in 2024. Hopefully you are right that he can help put the class together. We saw individual classes at the skill positions under Kelly with some good talent but we've never really stacked it. 2024 will give ND that opportunity.

Naturally would love to stack QB classes like OSU, but a three year cycle of:

Steve Angeli - High Floor, Low Ceiling
Avery Johnson- Low Floor, High Ceiling
Cj Carr - 5 Star Prospect

Wouldn’t be the worst QB room.

2024 QB Room if everyone stays, and we get AJ or (insert QB)

Tyler Buchner - Side arm slinger
Drew Pyne - 5'9
RPIII - Future Heisman winner

ND needs another CB that way they can move micah bell to WR.
I'm not opposed but I trust Freeman and Mickey to make the right move. We have a lot of speed coming in on the offensive side already: Edwards, potentially Love, James, Flores, maybe Lyons, Limar. No reason to be talking about a Bell switch unless he just can't acclimate to the defensive side of the ball in college.
