I never worry about ND recruit "drops" once they've verballed.
Scouts saw a lot out of them and no game has been played to support
thinking less of them (at least until I hear someone like BobbyMac tell
me different.) Our staff also agreed with their high potential.

I DO care whether we get a marquee recruit and that guy actively
recruits other guys for us. That's the only thing, other than roster
balance that I care about. ND will be good (Top Ten good) pretty
much always. We will not be winning any titles until some QB "named
Joe" who is just "better than you" puts on the Gold Helmet.

At the end of the day, who cares? Recruit rankings are for people who have nothing better in their lives but beating their chest over a team they arent actually nor ever have played for or crying in their beer about the same. All this does is sell papers. Zero impact what some fat guy who never played at any respectable level says.

How is that being any different than being a fan of any sports team? You only root for teams you were a member of? Miserable take.

I like IE for the recruits that sign and reading about them. You guys are very knowledgeable. But am I going to stay awake at night because some kid goes somewhere else or because some fat guy writing an article drops a kid 30 slots? Not a chance. There are tons of cant miss recruits that waaaaay miss and a ton of roster fillers that rise to the top to worry about what some clown writes to justify his paycheck.

Root for is one thing. Having an anxiety and angst frame of mind over a team you arent playing for doesnt benefit anyone except your cardiologist.

I don’t think anyone recommends being anxious about it. I like that Braylon James went up. I like when Notre Dame wins. Doesn’t keep anyone up at night. That’s really where it ends haha.

As much as I hate to say it, there is a correlation with recruit rankings and championships. BCR evidence is real. Gotta have over 65% and a stud QB or over 80% to win the big one.

Haven’t seen it effect the 247 Composite yet

Jaiden Ausberry is down 116 to 196, while linebacker. Preston Zinter (previously 221) and offensive lineman. Sullivan Absher (previously 231) dropped out of the Rivals250.”

^ as far as notable drops

Glad they corrected that unsubstantiated drop of Braylon James. While I disagree on Absher, Rivals is the only one not just dropping Drayk Bowen and Vernon every time
Can't drop our players if they never hire staff to re-evaluate players.

Surprised this didn’t cause the impending meltdown, some new names mentioned here besides Herring, Purchase etc that we’ve heard:

Not sure why we have to go that low. Why cant we poach higher ranked kids, like it was just done to us? I dont want to go back to Elston type projects, thats why we got Washington to recruit bigger fish.

Because Keeley-type prospects hire agen... err, find uncles to broker big up front pay-for-play deals. ND's interpretation of the rules (lol) is that doing so is presently illegal, so we don't make such offers. Thus, we should not expect to sign such prospects until: (1) ND wises up and stops giving the NCAA an undue level of deference; or (2) enforceable rules get put in place to level the playing field again. The latter is still years away, and the former has been killing us for as long as I've been a fan.

The worst part of it all is that it should be easier to enforce such rules now more than ever. The NCAA implementing NIL and the new transfer rules without having a clear enforcement process in place beforehand is amateurish, even by NCAA standards.

Is this more of an organizational issue than an ND administrative issue? If some NIL fund or fat wallet that is unaffiliated with the university paid off Keeley to go to ND, what could the university effectively do about it? The university can't control third parties so I don't totally understand the anger being lobbied their way (unless the expectation is that the university plays an organizing role in such deals).

I think it's only an administrative issue insofar as our boosters are afraid of retaliation for taking such action, and our admin refuses to help coordinate such payments. I agree that ND has limited control over 3rd parties, so someone with deep pockets could let the Keeleys know that he'll match Keon's best offer if he signs with ND. And it's silly to imply that our BoF is discussing P4P and voting not to extend such offers. I can't imagine that's happening even at aTm. But I think the key difference is that the southern schools have long had a "bag man" culture in place, so it took very little organizing to get the back-channel communication between boosters and the coaching staffs online.

P4P is so foreign to our culture that it's going to take some major work by our boosters and coaching staff to get the admin to consider it. Odds are good that the southern schools are gonna keep eating our lunch until new rules level the playing field.

It matters how much you believe a given school/coach/AD. USC recently said they endorse one collective and described another that plans to be more aggressive as rogue. Do we believe USC at the higher levels actually doesn’t condone the rogue collective? Does Lincoln Riley?

Just riding out the clock and cashing checks until they are inevitably dissolved and replaced by something similar

I haven't went through those names or others but I'm not beholden to rating/rankings to find quality or even in some cases possibly elite prospects. They're out there, the fun part is finding them.
