Don't think anything is imminent between ND and this kid, but he's someone Loy thinks ND should track as he goes into his senior year. Probably came up in a 247 film eval meeting or whatever and he liked what he saw.The kid still only holds 1 power five offer. Something is off here..

FWIW, Loy posted this as someone he thinks ND should take a look at
Yeah, definitely needs mechanical work from that tape. The athleticism and arm strength are definitely there though.Throwing motion seems off

I was going to mention this, but at times (or every time) as a QB I imagine you have to put a certain “TOUCH” on a ball. As long as he’s accurate, and can make all the throws I’d say leave it be. Everyone has their way of doing things, if it works, leave it be.Throwing motion seems off

I think he means better than Angeli last year and having to scramble to flip a QB this year.Better than what? We haven’t offered the kid that’s committed to Illinois, it’s just someone Loy thinks we should. We don’t even know if we are talking to him.
Angeli is good, and it's definitely a first world problem to be (potentially) having trouble finding a QB because we have a 5 star committed in the next one.I think he means better than Angeli last year and having to scramble to flip a QB this year.
But consistently getting qbs with championship Caliber potential is critical to staying at the top. You can’t just get them ever 3-4 years. They don’t always pan out. Example, If Buchner struggles throwing we have no shot at a title until probably 2025. Unless we find home run in portal. This is because we’ve recruited qb spot so bad 2020-2023 other than Buchner.Angeli is good, and it's definitely a first world problem to be (potentially) having trouble finding a QB because we have a 5 star committed in the next one.
Better than 21 and 22… qbs wr are looking aT don’t have high potential.Better than what? We haven’t offered the kid that’s committed to Illinois, it’s just someone Loy thinks we should. We don’t even know if we are talking to him.
LSU might be better optionThere is a Two Star QB that has excellent throwing motion and while he is 5 foot 7 inches now he is going through a growth spurt. Decent mobility - only gets sacked 3 to 4 times a game. Turns the football over rarely - unless it’s raining.
For now he only has FCS offers but Rees is looking at this kid. Could be a real steal for the irish.
The hole in QB recruiting was probably the back-to-back Clark/Pyne classes in '19 and '20. Neither was ever going to be the guy for us. Then you throw in losing Jurkovec - who could have been a second-year starting QB this season. IDK how much of all that was Kelly vs. Long. vs. Rees but probably blame to go around. But consistently getting qbs with championship Caliber potential is critical to staying at the top. I don’t expect nd to land the 5 star top qb every year but you need to land highly talented qbs yearly. Not pyne, angeli,
Or anyone we are looking at in 23 now.
Loy now mentions he likes this kid and thinks ND should keep tabs on him.

Why isn’t a senior Buchner starting in two years?Without Minchey or Novosad, Steve Angeli is leading this #1 class on the field in 2 years to try and take down A&M and win a playoff game, unless Buchner isn’t good enough to get drafted, in which case we are still in a bad spot. Is he such a rare talent that he’s going to carry the team on his back and beat Georgia in the playoffs? IDK. But I lean hard with IB staff in thinking he’s not an elite talent. I do not believe CJ will or should start a true freshman. Rees needs to step it up and earn his money and position as NDs OC. That’s my venting for the day.
He will. ‘22 and ‘23 is my hope for him. If he’s really good, historically NDs QBs have declared for the draft. If he is great this year and next, he’d be gone. At one point the IB staff broke down the past 10 starters at QB for ND that made it to the NFL. The majority didn’t play all those years I believe and did not use all their eligibility. Buchner is hopefully good enough that he will be two and out. I can’t remember exactly what they said, but Ryan was essentially saying Buchner should play 2 years and declare if he’s as good as everyone hopes. That means Angeli vs CJ in ‘24. That’s one hell of a hole that an elite ‘23 could likely swipe. Angeli vs CJ might work out. IDK. I just think it’s a poor situation and CJ has NOT signed LOI. Perhaps CJ will be able to learn the offense as EE. But true freshman have to be really damn good to do that. Why isn’t a senior Buchner starting in two years?

Only going off what IB says. They don’t think he has elite skills nor a high upside based on their evaluation. I think that fits closely with the national evaluations. But Singer apparently likes him for not elaborated on reasons if that makes a difference.I wish folks wouldn’t so quickly write Steve Angeli off as a nobody and that he should be an afterthought. He’s barely been on campus for a few months. It seems like it would be wise to see how he progresses over the next year or so, I think he’s got more in his tank than many are giving him credit for. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t pursue and get the best possible option for 2023.
Don’t think he’s a bad qb, just think he’s not someone that can lead a team in college to a title. Not that level of talent. We would need about 3 more top 3 recruiting classes to have a shot with angeli (like how Georgia did it this year).I wish folks wouldn’t so quickly write Steve Angeli off as a nobody and that he should be an afterthought. Mac jones was a 3 star. Just put the talent around a qb and you never know what could happen.Don’t think he’s a bad qb, just think he’s not someone that can lead a team in college to a title. Mac was 5.9 rated 4 star on rivals… but I agree with your take. Immense talent and competition in practice and you have a shotMac jones was a 3 star. Just put the talent around a qb and you never know what could happen.
