You know TEs can catch passes too, right? And when the strength of your offense is the RB room and you have a deep stable of backs, you tend to run more 12 or 22 personnel. That's likely not going to change this year. You don't need to have 4-5 WRs on the field to have an effective passing attack. If you can run the ball effectively and open up the PA, you will be plenty lethal through the air.Yes and you missed my whole point which isn't shocking. ND has traditionally been very conservative with its passing game in relation to receivers. Tommy especially relied on multiple tight end sets and tight ends were carrying the offensive load - hardly an air passing attack.
Now with a new OC - who was Tommy's TE Coach...we are suddenly going to open things up...a la BYU or Houston Cougars.... all without much returning production of the WR room. I hope you are right and I am wrong but I also think we will need a bunch of luck accomplishing suhc a transformation of the offense.
I'm sure they will be multiple with their approach, and they will mix up the formations and number of WRs. The WRs, as far as recruiting rankings are concerned (which again, you love to discuss), are more talented than anything Hartman had at Wake Forest, where he succeeded tremendously. That's my point. He has more talent than he ever had at Wake. What makes you think he won't help these WRs ascend their preseason expectations? Especially with what should be a very strong running attack to open up the pass?
Not rocket science.
