ever since that one season when Brady got hurt early (and Matt Cassel had to start) the NFL have been on this crusade to protect the stars and screw everyone else
That's where it got a crazy. They went above and beyond protecting skill players, and it started there. It has nothing to do with CTE research either.

He got to play into his mid 40s while guys like Joe Montana and Phil Simms were just about maimed in the 80s and 90s. There should be a middle ground when all is said and done.

Defenses should make a pact not to do anything in Pre-Season games next season. Literally just stand there after the snap and let offenses do whatever they want. The rule would get changed real quick.

I really like the new kickoff rules.

The hip drop tackle ban is going to be a disaster.
I hate that you can't do surprise onside kicks anymore. Huge element of the game being taken away. You have to declare if you're attempting an onside now. Do not like that part of the rule at all.

Dan Campbell probably fuming. lol

You’re right it was, however, how many people watch that because of Taylor Swift?

I do not like Taylor Swift however more females watched football because of her.
They definitely tapped into a whole market of women and teens that otherwise may not have been watching.

Be that as it may, the NFL is not going to implode. College football is not going to implode. Yes, this is a message board and we're all prone to hyperbole, but we've seen new rules come about over the years and whatever resistance or concern they've been met with people are still watching. Helmet to helmet, horse collars and crack backs have all been banned prior to this. Life went on.

I do feel they should be getting more player opinion from this and not just offensive players, however. Their attempts to make the game safer seem to have greater benefits to the offensive side of the ball, which doesn't seem like coincidence.

Potential benefit here is defensive coaches will adapt and get back to teaching proper tackling techniques which will actually still work in 2024.

There was a similar sentiment after the Clay Matthews roughing the passer call in 2018... yet here we are
Against the Vikings, that was a brutal call. Game is going soft, but we keep watching, I agree. And that's not gonna change anytime soon. Just sad to see it.

I've kinda done a bit of a turn on the hip drop ban and I don't mind it. I can't stand these players that try and tackle a player by any means but a good form tackle. If this leads to better fundamentals, I'm good with it. I just know the refs are going to blow these types of calls at crucial moments.

Someone is going to wear one that isn't the right brand or color and get fined by the League like they do when they wear restricted cleats or socks.

Seriously. Who cares.
