Great game. Congrats to Domer Drue Tranquill for winning a ring! Mahomes is unstoppable w/ the game on the line. He & Purdy both played a great game.

49ers really fucked up OT by winning the toss and electing to take the ball first. Romo was right, 2nd team gets an extra down. Why would you give Mahomes an extra down?
The only possible rationales you can give are maybe:

- SF defense was just on the field at the end of regulation and was still gassed
- Going first allows you to go for the win in the event of TD-TD or FG-FG.

Still, feels very much like there is a greater advantage to going second. Hell, if Chiefs start with the ball, I’m not so sure they go for it on 4th and short.

Terrible decision to win the kickoff and start with the ball IMO.

Very similar to the last time these two played in the Super Bowl. Difference at the QB position was the ultimate difference in the game. Mahomes came through and is an all timer.

Every Chiefs postseason opponent went away from the run from the get go. Have to ask yourself why.

Ended up being a fantastic game despite the first half being an absolute joy for punting enthusiasts.

I think with the NFL rule, getting it first is the benefit because of how you said... you can still get the ball back and sudden death.

Also, NFL isn't college football where both teams get the ball at the 25. They have to maintain a drive, and really get down the field. The idea of going first, IMO was the correct call. Not giving the ball to CMC on 3rd and 4 at the 6 was the mistake.

No idea what the stats say but I hate going empty with a non running quarterback. Soon as I saw that on 3rd down I knew they were screwed.

Purdy has escapeability, but yeah.

I saw it, and thought the same...

My only hope was they were going to find a way to get it into CMC's hands. And, in fairness, the play was there. Jennings was about to be open, but the pressure came too quick (great call by Spags).

Yeah the argument of score-score-win is really interesting. I would guess the math says your odds are better taking the ball first in the event that the game it isn’t decided in the first two possessions.
