Bye week's over. The Catholic folk travel to Sin City to take on the BYU Cougars.

There is other decent football in store, as well. Thursday and Friday are meh, but Saturday sees some decent and/or intriguing matchups in each time slot.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 5

TimeMatchupCoverage
7:00PMUCF (-2.5) vs SMUESPN2

- Both of these teams might be decent... SMU has lost two one-score games to P5 opponents, while UCF is 3-1, but has a perplexing loss to Louisville. This should at least be an entertaining game, and our first Wednesday night game of the year.

FRIDAY, OCT. 7

TimeMatchupCoverage
7:00PMNebraska (-3) @ RutgersFS1
7:30PMMemphis (-3) vs HoustonESPN2
10:30PMNevada (-3.5) vs Colorado StateFS1
10:30PMSan Jose State (-7) vs UNLVCBSSN

- I really thought Rutgers was improving... but they're a home dog to Nebraska, who doesn't have a head coach. Seems like a strange line, so we'll see what happens!
- AAC Football is very meh this year, but this has potential to be a fun matchup anyway.
- FS1 double-header! If you fall asleep during Nebraska/Rutgers, this will be the weird game you wake up to around 12am when it's time to move from the couch to the bedroom.
- Scout UNLV, who is 4-1! Supposed to be a cupcake down the line on ND's schedule, they've got four wins with impressive offensive output, and a close loss to Cal. This will be a decent test at the start of a tough stretch that goes SJSU/Air Force/ND.

SATURDAY, OCT. 8 - EARLY

TimeMatchupCoverage
12:00PM#4 Michigan (-22) @ IndianaFOX
12:00PM#8 Tennessee (-3) @ #25 LSUESPN
12:00PM#17 TCU (-7) @ #19 KansasFS1
12:00PM#23 Mississippi State (-9.5) vs ArkansasSECN
12:00PMTexas (-7) @ OklahomaABC

- scUM has the cushiest goshdarn schedule. Just a slow buildup to competent opponents. Maryland was at home, now they go on the road... but to underwhelming IU.
- Is BK's LSU squad ahead of schedule??? They start slow (sounds familiar), but they have a mobile, veteran QB to bail them out and sneak out wins (also familiar). Tennessee is a huge test, though.
- Look at the Big XII getting wild with some fresh blood in the top 25! TCU and Kansas are both surprises early in the season, and this game could be a shootout.
- Cowbells in the top 25 after a win over Texas A&M... this could be one of those "The SEC Feeds on Itself" games where Arkansas turns it back on and gets a win.
- The Red River Rivalry is suddenly underwhelming with Texas not quite being back, and Oklahoma's defense deciding to take a few weeks off.

SATURDAY, OCT. 8 - AFTERNOON

TimeMatchupCoverage
2:30PMCincinnati (-27.5) vs South FloridaESPN+
3:30PM#2 Georgia (-30) vs AuburnCBS
3:30PM#11 Utah (-3.5) @ #18 UCLAFOX
4:00PM#3 Ohio State (-27) @ Michigan StateABC
4:00PM#9 Ole Miss (-17) @ VanderbiltSECN
4:00PMMiami (FL) (-3.5) vs North CarolinaESPN2

- Go Bearcats
- Auburn shit the bed last week... but so did UGA. This could be Dawgs by 100. HOWEVER... UGA/Auburn has a tendency to get weird, so stay alert!
- A Pac-12 heavyweight clash in an afternoon time slot! Utah came into the season with high hopes, and UCLA has come from out of nowhere to start 5-0. This could be a really good game, and it's cool to see UCLA getting back to national relevance simply as a changeup from the usual suspects.
- Sparty. Buckeyes. East Lansing. If there's rain in the forecast, place your bets on Sparty right now. (If not, Buckeyes by a bunch.)
- Joey Freshwater takes a trip to Tennessee to visit our old friend Clark Lea. Can Vandy push for an upset while Ole Miss fights a big-game hangover? Probably not! But we'll see.
- Root for the Tar Heels, both because Miami is evil, and because it helps ND's transitive relevance in the polls.

SATURDAY, OCT. 8 - LATE

TimeMatchupCoverage
7:30PMNOTRE DAME (-3.5) vs #16 BYUNBC
7:30PM#5 Clemson (-20.5) @ Boston CollegeABC
7:30PM#6 USC (-12.5) vs Washington StateFOX
7:30PM#13 Kentucky (-6) vs South CarolinaSECN
7:30PM#20 Kansas State (-2) @ Iowa StateESPNU
8:00PM#1 Alabama (-24) vs Texas A&MCBS
8:00PM#14 NC State (-3) vs Florida StateACCN

- Go Irish. Beat Mormons. Similar defensive gameplan to stopping UNC. Similar offensive gameplan, too. Execute. Win.
- #Pray4PhillyJ. He might literally die at the hands of Clemson's defensive front.
- Trojans get another week of being on Upset Alert. Go Cougs.
- Wildcats need to rebound after a heartbreaker against Ole Miss, where they turned the ball over THREE TIMES with chances to tie/win.
- Kansas State and Adrian Martinez are heating up on offense. Iowa State is good for one WTF win every season... is this the one?
- #Pray4Jimbo. Nick Saban might try to score 100 points, whether Bryce Young is in the lineup or not.
- FSU is on a rollercoaster this season, and could get another high point here. I've got the Wolfpack on upset alert after a lackluster showing against Clemson inspired no confidence in their offense against a defense with a pulse.

SATURDAY, OCT. 8 - NIGHT CAP

TimeMatchupCoverage
9:45PMBoise State (-7.5) vs Fresno StateFS1
10:30PMSan Diego State (-21.5) vs HawaiiCBSSN
11:00PMOregon State (-7) @ StanfordESPN

- We are once again blessed with a Smurf Turf night cap game. It should also be entertaining, as Boise State rallied last week against SDSU and looked surprisingly competent after firing some people and letting Bachmeier hit the transfer portal.
- Meh. It's on TV at night.
- Endurance Test. Scout the Cardinal.

Fun fact, Stanford hasn't covered a spread in over a calendar year. Are they due, or are they that bad?

Is 65.5 enough points for the Texas and OU game?

Bama is going to smoke A&M.

OU is down their starting QB. I wouldn’t think it’s gonna be TOO high of scoring.

Levis, KJ Jefferson, Dillon Gabriel, Ewers, Bryce Young, TJ Finley, Max Johnson, Chandler Morris, Tyler Shough, Aiden O’Connell all anywhere from questionable to out.

Updated all matchups with point spreads.

UGA is a 30-point favorite over Auburn... I know Auburn is a mess, but that is a whole lot of points in an SEC matchup.
I was surprised to see Miami as a 3.5 point favorite over UNC, though that's mostly the home-field advantage thing, right? Or is that a betting myth?
Clemson might cover the 20.5 spread easy, unless Dabo takes his foot off the gas. But BC will have no chance to run any type of offense with their OL vs Clemson's DL.

Two really surprising spreads to me: Bama getting -24 on the road in College Station and Oregon St only laying -7 against a putrid Stanford team.

Thanks for putting this together, look forward to these threads every week, excellent work!

UGA's scare against Mizzou might be the worst thing to happen to Auburn. UGA is probably refocused this week and won't let Auburn sneak up on them. A beatdown could be the excuse they want to fire Harsin now, but the person who hires the HC to replace him is TBD. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Michigan at Indiana interests me. Hoosiers are kind of a wonky team. They could potentially give Michigan a game.

What in Sam Hill! I got up to make a sandwich come back and Houston has scored two TDs in the last 2:00 minutes to pull ahead of Memphis!

As said above, I fear for the well-being of BCs QBs, plural, in that game. Which Miami and which UNC will we see is the big question?

LSU fumbles open kickoff and Tennessee capitalizes. Forces LSU to go 3 and out, Bramblett saves a touchdown on a 60 yard punt return. This was a must win for BK to get bowl eligible and it’s off to a horrendous start.

Polian having a rough season thus far in Baton Rouge.

Josh Heupel better be triple-vaxxed. Dude is disgustingly unhealthy looking.

I didn’t even think about the Polian aspect of this. Fumbled kickoff and 60 yard punt return in the opening 5 minutes. Glad things are going swimmingly for him.

Jayden Daniels is a faster Ian Book. Loves running out of bounds behind the LOS instead of throwing it away

Of all the games left on their schedule, needing 2 wins I would say minus the Bama game this is the last “must win” on their schedule. Arkansas, UAB, A&M and Florida are all largely inferiro opponents than TN this year and they only need to win 2 out of the 4, with UAB being a layup.

They’re not winning at Arkansas, at Florida, and at A&M

Pretty surprised that BK didn't have his guys ready to play at home.

If this was in Knoxville I wouldn't have been surprised at all.

All more winnable games than this one.

Every game moving forward will be more winnable once BK gives in and goes to Nussmeier to actually throw a forward pass and Daniels only to change pace. Could come by end of day.
