Should the staff give California recruiting the same treatment that they've given Florida? Not completely quit recruiting the state, but start using those sources elsewhere? Similar to what they've been doing in the Atlanta area and their private schools.

I think I'd rather recruit the private/Catholic schools on the East Coast than continue to get pantsed by Mater Dei.

Yes

Jaden Mickey, Jr., Buchner, Will Schweitzer, Chance Tucker, Ramon Henderson, Foskey, Patterson, Bracy. All Californians.

ND has barely recruited Mater Dei in the first place. Last guy we got from there was Joe Schmidt. There’s too many schools and too much talent to ignore it. Unfortunately Riley will probably get top choice but there’s still plenty of kids they won’t get.

The issue was not with recruiting California but with who in California they recruited and the numbers they recruited at said position.

If we had a class of Merriweather, Joseph Griffin Jr., and Wesley Grimes, I’d care a lot less about Williams and Walker.

Agreed. Why we didn't pursue Grimes or Griffin way sooner and/or far more aggressively is beyond me.

If we end up in a situation where Merriweather is all we get in 2022, that is a catastrophic failure by the offensive staff.

Notre Dame is signing a great class.

I firmly believe that they are signing the best OL and TE classes in the country. I really like JD Price and think he will have a very productive college career. I never understood the knock on Angeli; I like him a good amount.

They’re signing some game wreckers on the front 7, especially at LB. Sneed and Jr look like future stars. I love Ziegler’s versatility. I’m excited to see what Ford and Gobaira can do.

What’s happening at WR is annoying and self inflicted. But I made my opinion clear on that yesterday. Lick your wounds, hit the portal, and refocus on the 2023 class.

Notre Dame’s roster is getting better today. I’m going to celebrate that.

If you had asked me to pick our top 3 possible Deco's 2/3 months ago you likely would have included walker, Williams, and Moore.

All 3 of these possibly to likely would have still occurred without the HC change, imo.

When you look at it like that at an individual level it really isn't much of a big deal. It's when you just consider the positions they play that it becomes an unfortunate issue. At the same time 2 of these were high upside projects and 1 is a already peaked high floor. It's just numbers that I think can still be filled.

I haven't seen this discussed at all here recently, but I still think there needs to be some concern about Hinish being our one and only interior DL. He looked RB sized in that group picture and 2 in 2 classes seems light no matter how much we all like Rubio.

Overall this is a helluva class and amazing job holding it together all things considered. Should be awesome day.

Agree with everything here and I'll try to answer the knock on Angeli. At least on my take, I was constantly comparing him to Allar. I not once understood how the staff thought that Angeli was better than Allar and I still do not think that. I am hoping Angeli has a great career at ND and would be glad to be totally wrong on this one, but I'm thinking Allar is going to be a 3-4 year starter in college and he had a great senior year to back this up.

A&M is signing the #1, 4, & 10 ranked TEs. I love Raridon and Staes and they might end up being better, but if we were doing national positional rankings, A&M would beat us.

I'm hoping the #'s of prospect in each position funnel was a BK system problem and not an individual position coach problem.

We'll see. They fixed the OL problem of 2020, Tommy has fixed his QB problems for '23 & '24.

And Dre Brown is ALL OVER '23 & '24 guys filling that O funnel.

My solution is bring in Bryan McClendon from Oregon to be the WR Coach / Passing game coordinator and Keenan Bailey the ST Coach and Recruiting Director.

That will fix WR recruiting with Tommy & Freeman working with them.

current state of the recruiting class: bumping all WR related threads

LOL. I love the panic button list making of internet people throwing offers out like confetti.

"Walks and chews gum at same time, offers from Tulane and Northern Illinois: OFFER."

"Flunked calculus, going to play Lacrosse instead of football, offers from Boise State and New Mexico: OFFER."

Ninjas? I remember a few short weeks when Del had the receivers recruiting issue fixed…

6TH 4* Avery Davis - 50%
RS SR 4* Kevin Austin - 20%
RS SR 4* Braden Lenzy - 50%
RS SR 3* Joe Wilkins - 80%
SO 4* Deion Colzie - 70%
SO 4* Lorenzo Styles Jr. - 70%

RS FR 4* Jayden Thomas - 80%
FR 4* Tobias Meriweather - 90%+
FR 3* Amorion Walker - 20%

These are my best guess for odds on whether people will be back on the team next year. I think if you receivers are some combination of Austin/Lenzy/Colzie/Styles and you don’t have injuries then the team will be totally fine.

The problem is that there is a legitimate scenario where your receivers are just like Wilkins/Thomas/Merriweather and at that point you are totally screwed. ND needs to figure out sooner rather than later who is staying and then based on that they need to hit the portal hard for warm bodies who can run routes and block. I would guess that of the seven players currently on the roster that we get 4 back and add Merriweather for a total of five scholarship receivers for next year before transfers.

Any rumors here? Not doubting you but I would have guessed these two are a lock to come back, especially if Austin is 20%.

That would literally make zero sense. Declare early to be an UDFA and lose out on millions?

Wouldn't be declaring early, this was his 4th year. He does still have another year of eligibility though. Staying another year might not be enough to take him out of UDFA territory.

He would absolutely raise his stock by returning. I think he can go Day 2 or higher if he can work on some of the flaws in his game. All the physical tools are there.

EQ Saint Brown 2.0.

IIRC, part of the reason EQ left early was b/c he wasn't confident in ND's QB situation going into his senior year, right? Maybe Austin feels the same way, and not in a way to take a shot at Buchner. He just may feel that they'll be run heavy next year with a big dose of Mayer. That's probably a fair assessment but he clearly needs another year in college, whether it's at ND or somewhere else.

Signing one receiver this year isn't good but get some of these guys to come back next year and sign Tate in 2023. It is what it is.

Just to tie up all the loose ends popping up here from stuff I've read/heard recently:

1. Styles and Colzie (and Diggs) were all rumored as possible transfers. This was before Kelly left though and it seems like they are probably sticking now.

2. Other '22 WRs are unlikely. Almost definitely ND looks for help in the portal.

3. ND will take undergrad transfers, and always has. The hangup is that the player has to be an academic fit, which is obviously a hurdle. But it is not an automatic "no" just because they are an undergrad.

4. I hope the Dawgs tear Michigan limb from limb and Harbaugh pukes milk on his khakis. If MFMF has a list, they're on it. Can't wait to see him recruit against that weirdo going forward.

Thumbs up, mostly on this last part.

Fixed as in filling his funnel with an appropriate # of recruits of the right skill level.

Then he has to fix the... signing the right guy portion of the program.

As for Del...

He had the commits right (had they stuck obviously) but he never had the land Fleurima and fill the funnel with extra guys like Purdue's Sheffield who will commit even if you ignore them aspect figured out.

Driskell is hearing he's leaning towards declaring.

Driskell panders to the 'Too young for NDNation' crowd. His news is fear, his sources are under the bed in his mind.

That said, I'll listen to him from time to time. I like Brian Smith and wish he was with 247 / Rivals / On3.

I think we will end up being fine WR but we will need to get about 4-5 guys for 2023 class. It all depends on who stays and who goes. If things get tight does anyone see us maybe having Watts play both ways, Jo Jo Johnson could move over to WR, you maybe also might see Tyree play more WR with diggs being the lead back. I could also see Jadarian Price getting some reps at WR.

We’ll be fine, but we likely still need to sign 1-2 bodies to develop in the 22 class.

I need a Venn Diagram for Folks who enjoy Driskell and those who think January 6th was overblown by the media
