This is a championship-level position. A bunch of super highly recruited and talented dudes with lots of depth and different profiles of athletes. I wouldn't change anything with how ND is running their TE room. Cooper Flanagan is another nice grab for the next class and ND is still big fish hunting with Duce Robinson and Jaxon Howard. Very, very excited about the TE room!

The talent actually on the roster is good. There are some big issues though. Davis and Wilkins are coming off major injuries and there's only 9 guys on scholarship and the offseason hasn't even begun. There's a total question mark if all of the 5th and 6th year guys actually return. You never know with those guys so they could quickly run out of depth. This is definitely a case of a couple of whiffs on recruiting classes and some unfortunate transfers and fits at WR. I hope they mine the portal for a good WR or two. Ideally if Del is the WR coach next year or if it is someone new they can stack some better talent at the WR position and get rid of the stigma that ND doesn't pass the ball. This position would be in decent shape if every single dude above returns and they all stay healthy but that's very doubtful! This is a position that is not championship-caliber at ND and hopefully can improve!

OL
6th 4* Josh Lugg

RS SR 3* John Dirksen
RS JR 4* Zeke Correll
RS JR 4* Quinn Carroll
RS JR 4* Andrew Kristofic
RS SO 4* Tosh Baker
RS SO 4* Michael Carmody

RS FR 4* Caleb Johnson
RS FR 3* Pat Coogan
FR 4* Aamil Wagner
FR 4* Joey Tanona
FR 4* Ty Chan
FR 4* Billy Schrauth
FR 3* Ashton Craig

So there will definitely need to be but probably will be some attrition at OL. They have 18 scholarships for next year which is a ton. I'd imagine Dirksen will grad transfer, Patterson might enter the draft and Lugg idk what you do with him. I don't think the coaches have it in them to say we're moving on to younger guys but I almost hope that happens because he's not very good. They're bringing in the #1 OL recruiting class in the country. In the next couple of days Texas, Alabama or some other may jump them on that but they have an elite group coming in and it is very exciting how Quinn has recruited this group. Now, hopefully they can get a great OLine coach to coach these dudes up because that's what they're in desperate need of!

Quinn was great but was never the same after knee. I think he’s graduating and then moving on

Since College Football is basically the NFL now, can we trade an OL to USC for a WR?

Michael Carmody for Gary Bryant Jr. straight up. Who says no?

So that's 42 scholarships for the offense assuming Walker sticks and everybody but Kyren comes back. So probably more like 37.

I'm glad that the '23 class is off to a great start because it might be a pretty big class. Hopefully the momentum among defensive guys helps get the offense jump started.

WR
6TH 4* Avery Davis - 50%

SO 4* Lorenzo Styles Jr. - 70%
RS FR 4* Jayden Thomas - 80%
FR 4* Tobias Meriweather - 90%+

These are my best guess for odds on whether people will be back on the team next year. I think if you receivers are some combination of Austin/Lenzy/Colzie/Styles and you don’t have injuries then the team will be totally fine.

The problem is that there is a legitimate scenario where your receivers are just like Wilkins/Thomas/Merriweather and at that point you are totally screwed. ND needs to figure out sooner rather than later who is staying and then based on that they need to hit the portal hard for warm bodies who can run routes and block. I would guess that of the seven players currently on the roster that we get 4 back and add Merriweather for a total of five scholarship receivers for next year before transfers.

You really think that the underclassmen are kind of unhappy or are you just hedging due to the unknown?

There is a plan somewhere that lies between Sense of Urgency and offering every WR in America with three minutes of highlights on HUDL who can walk and chew gum simultaneously.

I hope there is, anyway. Private jets ain't cheap.

I’m not trying to be a Chicken Little but I heard awhile ago (before Kelly left) that the freshmen WRs did not like Del and were strongly considering entering the portal if he was retained. The good news is that it doesn’t look like he is being retained (we’ll see, but that’s the general consensus). I also heard that how he connected with and treated one of the WRs who recently transferred was not great… but there are two sides to every story.

18 guys on scholarship! Some attrition will happen for sure, but love the talent that Elston is bringing in. The 2023 class is shaping up to be really special with Keeley, Vernon, and some other talents (Traore maybe?). As long as Elston is leading the pack I think ND will continue to produce championship-level DLines!

Yeah this has been out there on the premium sites for a minute. Diggs was in that group too. Seems legit. But now I think people seem more optimistic with the coaching changes.

23 and 32 personnel all day every day.

Just beat the crap out of teams with 23 and 32 personnel all day, and then sneak into 22 or 12 to hit Styles or Colzie over the top.

It’s crazy that most of these dudes play. Unlike the other groups, I can’t figure out who might go, outside of guys going to the NFL.

It’s lame that the loss of 2-3 guys that were already unsteady commits, during a coaching change, makes this awesome class seem less awesome.

It sucks to lose these guys, even though I was fully expecting it.

However I am kind of fascinated to see what MFMF's response is on signing day. I'm sure someone is going to ask the question. Will it be:
1. "I need to get into these private schools and build relationships," or
2. "We need to have more offers out to allow for attrition" or
3. "We need to identify when something like distance is a dealbreaker"

Probably it's all of the above. But I am still curious.

i like all three but imo #1 is the most important, you need to go where the talent is.

Similar to DLine this is a loaded position. Definitely championship-level. Curious how the 5 guys in their 5th and 6th years will choose to move forward with the team! Not sure if Pryor's 6th year will be 100% locked in but regardless a guy or two I imagine will leave. Still, the depth and talent in the LBer room have set it up for some really good years moving forward. Curious with all of the talented youngsters coming how some 2023 recruits will look at it. Bowen isn't scared though!

18 scholarships after so far Kyle Hamilton and Litchfield Ajavon have moved on. Would be a big bummer to lose out on Devin Moore because I think he's gonna be a stud. Other than that the #'s are fairly strong. Just need some top end talent to eventually come through to Notre Dame. The 2023 DB class has the makings of an epic haul!

If the rumors are true of Bramblett leaving then it'll be a young special teams battery. Don't forget about Harrison Leonard either. Lots of talent though! Polian didn't miss on getting some of the best punters and kickers out there. Bramblett was the #1 Punter in his class. McFerson is the #1 Punter in his class. Bryan was the #1 Kicker in his class. Leonard was the #8 Kicker in his class. Pretty good depth and talent. We'll see how it plays out under the new ST coordinator

Why is Bramblett leaving (or rumored to be leaving)? I really like him as our punter.

Shitty finish. But hopefully this invigorates the staff even more for '23. That could be a legit #1 class if A&M or someone doesn't go insane again and buy I mean sign like 10 of the top 100.

PS. Not saying buying in a judgmental way either, it's all above board now. If you ain't buyin you ain't tryin!
