Lose to Ohio St. Put up a fight in the first half then end up losing by about the spread. Lose a squeaker to USC who will be a top 15ish team

8-4 this will feel like Faust/Davie/ type seasons cant give the controls of a iconic brand like this to a novice-wish it weren't so but it is. Really wish it weren't so.

If Rees leaves, who would Freeman go after? I assume it would be an experienced coach and elite recruiter.

1. Mike Yurcich, OC/QB coach PSU
2. Jeff Grimes, OC Baylor (hire a new QB coach)
3. Kevin Wilson, OC Ohio State (hire a new QB coach)

IMO

I think we lose to Ohio State but close. I think we lose to USC by double digits. I think there is another game that we sneak by just by the skin of our teeth that shouldn’t be that way. And we lose the bowl game. For some reason ND football fails to show up for significant bowl games. I think that happens yet again this year.

USC is a glorified 7 v 7 team, and is soft AF in the trenches. We've won the last 4 in a row and 7 of the last 9 games as a result. Riley has done literally nothing to address this problem yet.

Weird things happen in rivalry games, so we can't guarantee victory, but USC looks like the 4th toughest out on our schedule, and may not even be that good. If you honestly believe we're going to lose to the Trojans, then you'd better be prepared for the worst season we've had since since 2016.

if ND can go at least 2-1 in the toss up games and finish the season at 9-3 that would be a good season.

This.

If we lose to USC then I'm F'ing pissed. Kelly owned USC of late and while they got a new sheriff in town so did we. The difference being our Sheriff was left in a WAY better position than theirs. Either there new coach has the juice that ours doesn’t or something went terribly wrong.

10-2 should be the goal. 9-3 feels like the most likely scenario to me with a new HC.

I really don't know what to expect from USC this year b/c it's so hard to predict how a team with 87 transfers will actually perform. A couple of those transfers are on the OL and DL and that should give them some depth.

If this game was in SB mid season, ND would throttle them. They'll have the entire year to pick up Riley's offense and they'll play at home, which gives them a much better shot at beating ND. That said, ND is far deeper and if USC is playing backups by week 12, they may catch a beating.

I think ND wins but you're more confident than me.

I went 11-2. Let's be honest this is an 11 game season, we win at Ohio State with no injuries and no blow out loss.

Lineman is one of the positions least amenable to shoring up through transfer (remember "Pre-season All-American Cain Madden")? Those guys set the tone for your team's toughness, and they have to be recruited and developed internally. There's no short-cut available to Riley here.

Maybe we pick up some injuries in our secondary and find ourselves simply unable to stop their 5-star skill players. But absent a scenario like that, the Trojans are in for another ass-kicking.

I didn’t say that’s what I want to happen. I hope we go to Cali and curb stomp them.

New coach, so at least one tough loss.

Predicted losses:
Ohio State: more talent, psyched-out by former team's aura
BYU: more experience, discipline, and focus on this particular game

Tough loss candidates:
USC: they are due and we've gotten used to winning this game
Clemson: good enough. . .

And I also kind of think we are more likely to win 8 than 10... because things on offense could get really ugly if TB loses confidence or we have a WR and QB injury.

Given their absolutely abismal schedule, they could be a 1 or 2 loss team at worst. Will be all the sweeter if we can roll in their and crack some skulls.

I think 2 losses in season, then another bowl loss. Competitive losses though creates excitement for next year and MF gets better in game/and prep to make a run for the Natty

I went 11-2 with a NYC 6 bowl win. I think this team is pretty good, especially on the line of scrimmage.

I’ll say 2 and 2 vs OSU, Clemson, USC and BYU. I think there’s a good chance that USC is so bad up front that I would be surprised at this point if we lost to them.

Clemson is going to be a fistfight. They are so deep on the DL and good on defense that I think it ends up being like 17-14 either way. DJU was so bad last year and they don’t have a real guy at receiver like Hopkins, Mike Williams, Higgins or Ross that they have had in the past that I have a hard time seeing their offense be great. I guess there is a chance that Klubnik is really good, but a true freshman being really good at QB is an outlier.

At OSU is obviously a tough one and BYU with all of their experience back will be a tough game. I think it comes down to if we are able to create enough explosives in the passing game to beat the better teams. We need either Styles or Tyree to join Mayer as a true impact weapon in the passing game since we should be able to run the ball well with Buchner at QB and our OL.

Good point but on the road, 3 time zones away, rivalry as you mentioned, and Riley gets the whole season to figure it out first. I think we lose another one and imo it's most likely USC.

I want to say 10-2 (OSU and Clemson) but my gut tells me 9-3 (USC will be better at the end of the season than they are now) and don’t be surprised if it’s 8-4 (new HC and/or rookie QB finds a way to lose a game we should win).
Just so many unknowns.

I don't think we lose to BYU. They can't out athlete us, which should be our biggest concern against the rest of the 4 big games on the schedule.

This is a hard season to predict because our two toughest opponents--OSU and Clemson--have very imbalanced teams. They could legitimately be, respectively, the best offense and defense in the nation this year. But the opposite unit for both teams is only projected to be 1/3 as efficient. That's a real opportunity for ND, as imbalanced teams are much easier for a good coaching staff to plan around and upset.

USC isn't gonna "out athlete us" in the trenches.

Gonna stick my neck out here and predict that ND won't lose to the Trojans again until they start recruiting and developing linemen like the big boys.

I'm talking about fast twitch athletes in space. If Riley can get his recievers and QB in sync they will be a good team. I don't see them winning the Pac 12 but could see them going something like 10-2 unfortunately.

I'm really looking forward to Clemson and seeing the ND OL square off against their fantastic DL.
