You win and the espn pundit sec sec class has the excuses at the ready. You lose to bk and you get memed to death and last thing we need after a mixed first year for Freeman. Just give me an easy win or a team that a loss is less cared about use the practices and get into the off season. My take is just my typical pussy ass risk minimization
I think a bowl against LSU is the only way guys like Mayer and foskey play in it

Because we'll lose that game in the exact same way we lost to USC. And the narrative would immediately become, "BK was right to leave ND." That's the last fucking thing we need to be dealing with all off- season.

Give me an easy 9th win to build some momentum heading into 2023.
This. Give me LSU in another year or two once the recruiting advantages have kicked in. We've got a few holes at the moment, and BK knows exactly where they are to exploit them.

What kind of momentum would a win against LSU bring?

Btw I think bowl games mean $hit for momentum the next season which is 8-9 months away.

If they sit, it'll be because their agents advised them to minimize risk and focus on preparing for the combine. No opponent we could draw now would change that at all.
IF, they sit. So you're saying there's a chance, lol. I know it's not likely, but it's more likely against LSU than it is Tulane or whatever

No more momentum than beating Florida in the Gator Bowl?

It matters on the recruiting trail, which is where the battle for 2023 is currently being waged. Riding a bowl win into next year at 9-4 is a lot better than a loss at 8-5.

No, i'm telling you with some certainty that pulling LSU as an opponent would have no effect on their decision to sit or not. CFP would have. NY6 might have. LSU in a 2nd tier bowl? No one fucking cares.

Sorry not understanding your momentum logic, and your assumption beating Florida is given.

Also, won't most our 23 recruits be signed by bowl game? Legit asking because I don't know.

The Players care. I agree they probably sit, but I bet they think about it.

Do I really need to explain why winning our bowl game is better for recruiting than losing it? LSU is not a good matchup for us, while Florida would be a much easier out.

Recruiting never stops. The '24 class is going to fill out significantly between the bowl game and the start of next season.

I'm sure there are current players who would love to hang an L on Krian Belly. I don't think Mayer or Foskey are willing to gamble their draft stock on it though.

Winning is always better than losing I get it bro. We Lost our bowl last year and have a top five class right now if I'm not mistaken. Tell us where to be and I'm sure we'll be there. LSU just adds more to the intrigue w the story line. I would love it.

You hit all the points I was thinking of. Winning a non playoff bowl isn’t per se helping recruiting now. The whole endeavor is practice and great practice for the younger guys that spent most of the year on scout team. But the bowls happen when high schoolers are done with their season and off school eating popcorn and watching these games more intently then before. And these 24 and 25 recruits are just hearing the espn talking points and that has an influence. Also non playing college kids in portal we may want are in same position. Looking good winning the game all of that may be no better than neutral. But losing to your turn coat, carpet bagging, crawdad head sucking, jack ass of an ex coach while some espn jag is salivating over Kelly’s first year turn around bc sec sec sec is not the shit you want Johnny Sophmore defensive end hearing while your trying to get him to spend money to visit for a camp.

But...and hear me out here..what if...we beat the turn coat carpet bagging crawdad sucking coach??

Btw I am not a Kelly hater, and I'm probably leaving town in a Mercedes if someone offers me $10mm, but he has turned into quite the beotch since leaving.

I would disagree. I think ND themselves would see this and hopefully make changes so the football teams can win. The only way to right the ship is for the ND admin to have an ax to grind with BK and we lose. That ax then gets bigger. But I am a guy about learning hard lessons and natural consequences.

The people on the BoF who don't like the football program are not going to suddenly come around because we lost a bowl game to Kelly's LSU.

LSU is almost certainly going to finish with a higher class than us this year. I’m not sure we will ever have a recruiting edge on them, even with Po boy Beaulieu Kelly leading their efforts.

That'll suck if this happens year in and year out. But if our classes continue to average out higher than that's still a win for us.

Jerry Palm says Gator Bowl v Mississippi St. He's usually pretty good, but he has FSU going to the Duke's Mayo Bowl. I can't see both the Gator Bowl and Cheezit Bowl passing on them, which is why I think Holiday is it.

Mayer/Foskey should not suit up for ND ever again. Incredibly too risky to play in a meaningless bowl game, even against BK.

That said, I don’t want LSU because it feels like we play them in a bowl every few years.

Not really sure what kind of momentum a Gator, Cheez-it, Holiday Bowl win would bring to the program, but I do agree with the sentiment otherwise.

These bowl games aren't as relevant as they used to be regarding 'momentum' with the early signing period

247 has ND vs USC (South Carolina) in the Gator Bowl

I'd rather have Florida. I think South Carolina is a solid team without enough notoriety to make a win valuable. Basically a bowl game against Iowa State again.
