Annnnnnd we lostThe last winnable game of the season is tonight against GT.
They're just waiting for the ACC tournament. lolGuess the team rallying for Brey down the stretch is out of the question lol
I hope Lubin wouldn't bolt but it's entirely possible. It's still ND, the academics draw is still a factor for these guys who are "program players," not looking to bolt, but I'm sure if Lubin sees the writing on the wall he may look for a more competitive team. Both Lubin and Starling would be threats to leave IMO. Its a train wreck. The new guy's going to have a gigantic task just to make us competitive next year. Its probably a two year rebuild at a minimum.
I gotta thank Brey for at least smelling the tire fire and leaving rather than fighting to have his contract years. If he had insisted on not stepping down it would have set us back even further, whether fired or not.

Idk if I'm missing something but I don't see Starling going pro as a one and done. It's certainly in his future, but I don't think he's had as good of a season as Wesley. Transferring seems like the more likely scenario.
If my some miracle both guys stay, at least you have a foundation. Get a couple impact transfers, a la Cormac Ryan, maybe you stay remotely competitive and quicken the rebuild, but that's wishful thinking.
Does Cormac still technically have one year of eligibility left? His COVID year?
He'd be 26 years old. Not advocating for him to come back but just curious.
I would agree it makes it easier, but I'm not sure I think ND will be the easiest place to do that at. With that said, ND has done alright recently in the basketball transfer market. So, maybe a guy like Moser (just an example) could get guys that fit his system in place sooner than later.CBB is such a cluster - instant turnarounds are totally doable with the portal. Insta-starter in the ACC - pretty good way to showcase yourself for anyone looking to up their visibility. Great to see the guys really rally behind Coach here.
I would guess that it will be after March madnessWhat's the timeline for a hire in this situation? Should we expect to hear a replacement for Brey before the end of the season or is this going to be a situation where Jack is just vetting some candidates and we'll know when the season is over (or nearly over)?
I'm beginning to doub that Brey is going to work very hard to get the current guys to stay considering he already told his recruiting commitments that they should look elsewhere, essentially.Whoever ND gets (Moser & Sweeney are my 2 picks) I think they have to re-recruit Starling and Lubin to stay at ND.
I also think they need to be aggressive in recruiting in Indiana (the Indy area in particular) and go against Purdue and IU. It may take a couple of years to win a recruiting battle.
I would hope Brey would tell Starling and Lubin to give the new head coach a chance before transferring. Starling shouldn't be a one and done.
He is still leaving correct? Goodman should really clarify here. I am assuming/hoping he means coaching somewhere else in some capacity.

Given he's 63, his options will probably be NBA assistant or HC at a small private D1 school. I'd be surprised if he ends up at a P5 school.I'm not sure where he would go based on his press conference; the main assumption would be him returning to the East Coast, but he said he's "had enough of South Bend winters" which suggests he's interested in heading south.
Not sure any major programs would be interested in him after he burned this program to the ground the past 5 seasons.

He definitely won't be coaching here.
This is why Swarbrick needed to have some balls and just cut Brey loose after the bad FSU loss rather than him slowly run this program into the ground.
Usually they aren’t so direct if they have interest when they they deny.Well that’s a bummer but can’t imagine he would say anything different
