I actually have hope we can make it to Sunday. Not sure we will but I’ll take these matchups of Rutgers and Bama.

It’s a Wednesday game against Rutgers and then Friday game against bama if we win

No times yet. They come out soon tho
Usually the 16 seed is the first game and the 11/12 is the next. So we’ll probably start around 9:30 on Wednesday

Rutgers is dominant at home and mediocre at best on the road. ND matches up well with them. This is a game they can and should win. So I doubt they will.
The beat Wiscy and IU on the road, but are much better at home.

Hard to hate on the matchups. Rutgers and Bama are good, but neither I think has the ability to really exploit our big men. We may lose to either one, but I don’t think it will be because Atkinson/Laz are picked on.

This is my initial take. One of the more favorable draws from a first two game matchup perspective and not on the one seed side of the bracket. We usually get a Cinderella favorite - I don't see it. Texas Tech on initial review doesn't look too intimidating. Duke is the only team in the path to elite eight that is a horrible match up for us IMO.

This is important. Teams with good big men kill us. Teams with mediocre bigs we can handle as our bigs are mediocre.

That being said I've seen neither team so have no idea if what you say is true.

Watching Purdue over the weekend...what a nightmare match up that game would be. Their two centers would have a field day against us

Any interest in a tourney pool on ESPN I'm running? Started as a couple guys from work but I guess they want to get some more people in it. Entry will be just $10.

How the neck did Michigan even get in? I thought they would struggle getting into the NIT. 8th in Big 10, 17-14 and did not make a deep run in their tourney. That’s a joke.

Love it or hate it, a lot of people turn to the NET rankings and they were 34 in NET, which is two higher than even Sparty at 36. Notre Dame, on the other hand, was only 53.

Michigan had 5 Quad 1 wins and 3 Quad 2 wins vs. ND's 2 and 2, respectively. We were 4-9 in Quad 1 and 2 games. Not great.

Basically, in a year where the Big 10 was arguably the best and deepest conference in the nation (by a pretty wide margin, IMO) and the ACC was an utter joke, scUM is viewed as equal if not better.

The "quad" records obscure teams that are barely on one side or the other of the line, and ND had wins over a bunch of teams just on the wrong side of those lines. As for the Big 10, we'll see how good the teams are when they are tested in the tournament. The league has won 3 titles in 50 years or something.

Texas A&M fans are pissed in general. But they seem to be spewing most of their venom out on ND.

Maybe they should have won more games. Same goes for any ND fans whining about going to Dayton first.

And as far as Michigan being in I don't give two shits. They lost 14 games so the chances of them going very far have to be pretty close to zero.

Rutgers won't hit threes and doesn't make foul shots, but they play wacky good defense.

If ND can knock down some early threes that is a good sign. I Think ND wins a scrap.

I feel like this profile is the bugaboo of every early exit ND has had in the tourney since I've been alive. Play some defensive team -> don't get foul calls -> don't rebound or make 3s -> lose handily.

While I thought they would avoid a play in game, I don't have much hope for them to go far tbh. As much as I would love them to shock the world and win a few games, losing to Rutgers isn't out of the question, and getting smashed by Alabama is a real possibility. I feel like when the lights go on, they always come out the gates slow and shoot themselves in the foot way too much.

But huge kudos to them for making it this far! Anyone who watched them in the first part of the season didn't even think an NIT birth was happening.

Yeah they aren't a great shooting team but we need to keep it that way and are not great on defense so they might shot better than their numbers indicate. And we might shoot worse than usual since they are good on D and their guards are 6-4, 6-6 and 6-7 so our 3 point shooting might be challenged.

If we don't hit from 3 we almost always lose. One thing to watch is can Atkinson get their big guy in foul trouble. Teir bench is non productive and they really have no back up bigs to speak of.

Atkinson can be quite disruptive and productive against 2nd tier big men. Any inside game improves our odds substantially. I also think there is very little chance Wesley repeats the last performance. I am hopeful he takes his aggression out on the defensive end.

I hope so on Wesley. I’ve been nervous that coaches have figured out how to stop him. We need his driving capabilities to help open up the offense.

He's likely going to be guarded by the B10 defensive player of the year, so he'll either need to play lights out or we'll need to find alot of offense elsewhere

Twitter thread of NCAA basketball coaches with proposed jobs based upon their photos. Most are pretty good. I had to laugh at Izzo’s

Remember that FSU game in Chicago? Ugh. You described it. This was before we joined the ACC. ND was ranked pretty high and the game was over at the first Timeout.

That was the Mike Brey special in the NCAA tourney during the late 2000's and early 2010's. They'd shoot really well from beyond the arc, and then go into the tournament and suddenly they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a goddamn boat.

2007: (Season: 40.5% from 3 // v. Winthrop 1st round: 18.2% from 3)
2008: (Season: 39.8% from 3 // v. Washington St 2nd round: 17.6% from 3)
2010: (Season: 38.8% from 3 // v. Old Dominion 1st round: 23.1% from 3)
2011: (Season: 38.6% from 3 // v. Florida State 2nd round: 23.3% from 3)
2013: (Season: 37% from 3 // v. Iowa State 1st round: 23.5% from 3)

Only time I recall them shooting well in a loss was Xavier in 2012.
