'Tis the best time of the year for the NFL...draft time. I usually wait until after the NFL Combine to make this thread, but I'm particularly excited about this year's draft and offseason for many reasons:

-How close are the Browns or will they revert back to their old ways?
-Who panics and reaches for a QB in the first round?
-How high or low does Kyler Murray go?
-Does Pittsburgh trade Antonio Brown before the draft?

Many of you know that I have posted this thread the last 3-4 years and already know how to play. For those who are new or have not played before, here is how it works...

1.) Click on the link and pick your team(s)
2.) Select the amount of rounds you want to draft. I usually do at least 3 rounds.
3.) There are a few more things to do after that but it is pretty self explanatory.
4.) After you have complete you draft(s), post them on here. A short explanation for each pick is encouraged.

I'll be using this to death up until the draft. Good luck and happy drafting.

https://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/

3 round draft for Pittsburgh:

Round 1, Pick 20
Devin White, LB from LSU
Pittsburgh needs youth and speed at inside linebacker. They haven't had it since Shazier got hurt. Devin White has a slot of speed and athleticism and should play immediately.

Round 2, Pick 52
Kris Boyd. CB from Texas
A big bodied corner and one of the best in the Big 12. Artie Burns stinks and was a bust. They need so much help in the secondary.

Round 3
David Sills, WR from West Virginia
I made this pick off the assumption that Brown won't be back. Sills brings a lot of size to the receivers and that is something they don't have right now. JuJu, James Washington, and Sills should be pretty good.

4 round draft for the 49ers:

Round 1, Pick 2
Devin White, LB/LSU

Much like above, White's speed and athleticism will immediately make up for the loss of a guy like Foster. Warner played well, but it'd be nice to have two young studs back there.

Round 2, Pick 4
Marquise Brown, WR/Oklahoma

Good route running from a pass happy offense. Lateral quickness that can get YAC. Top end speed as well. Think Jimmy G could use a guy like this.

Round 3, Pick 3
Rock Ya-Sin, CB/Temple

Maybe a reach by a round or so, but a needed player. Physical corner who could be mentored by Sherman. Very good in man defense (Sherman trait). Can he be quick enough in NFL? Hope so.

Round 4, Pick 2
Dexter Williams, RB/Notre Dame

Ok, a bit of a homer pick here, but I think he could really succeed in the zone scheme that Shanahan runs. Make that one cut at the open hole, and get through quick. Can catch out of the backfield when needed. Also, doesn't need to be STAR with Breida and (maybe a healthy) McKinnon.

Actually, this guy might not even be on the board in round 3. He's one of the best small school prospects out there. Daniel Jeremiah has him in his top 50 overall and he's kinda blown up as of late.

He has, but I have a feeling he might fall back due to 40 times and such possibly. We'll see, I've liked him for a year

I like the first two picks. I don't know anything about Deebo Samuel so I will defer to your prowess. Not sure that Ferrell or Lawrence will be available when the Colts pick.

i thought about taking a WR with the second pick, but the simulator still had Lawrence available so I jumped. Deebo was pretty awesome for SCar. there's several WRs I like more, but he'd be good for late 2nd round.

give the simulator a shot. takes 2 minutes

Cincinnati

1: R1P11 - LB DEVIN WHITE, LSU
42: R2P10 - OT YODNY CAJUSTE, WEST VIRGINIA
72: R3P8 - QB WILL GRIER, WEST VIRGINIA
110: R4P8 - G BEAU BENZSCHAWEL, WISCONSIN
150: R5P11 - EDGE JALEN JELKS, OREGON
185: R6P10 - DL ED ALEXANDER, LSU
201: R6P26 - TE JACE STERNBERGER, TEXAS A&M
212: R6P37 - C KEEGAN RENDER, IOWA
214: R6P39 - LB DRUE TRANQUIL, NOTRE DAME
216: R6P41 - WR FELTON DAVIS, MICHIGAN STATE
225: R7P9 - WR GREG DORTCH, WAKE FOREST

White early and Tranquill late legitimately solves Cincy's LB issues. Tranquill was a homer pick, but provides versatility and athleticism that Cincy can use on 3rd down and on special teams.

Grier gives Taylor a QB to groom to potentially replace Dalton after a year or two.

Cajuste and Benzschawel solve the OL issues (get Bobby Hart the f*ck out of here). If Render pans out, that's a bonus for depth.

Jenks and Alexander provide needed depth, but will have time to develop.

Sterenberger is a meh pick, but they need a TE.

Davis and Dortch would likely fight for one roster spot, hoping that either Davis and his NFL size pan out, or else Dortch and his gamebreaking ability.

Houston Texans

Assuming the Texans reach a contract with Clowney and Tyrone Mathieu, S and Kareem Jackson, CB are not retained, those needs in addition to OL have to be addressed, here's their draft (using the CBS aggregate Big Board):

1: R1P23 - S DEIONTE THOMPSON, ALABAMA
2: R2P22 - CB JULIAN LOVE, NOTRE DAME
3: R2P23 - G BEAU BENZSCHAWEL, WISCONSIN
4: R3P22 - RB ELIJAH HOLYFIELD, GEORGIA
5: R5P23 - G DRU SAMIA, OKLAHOMA
6: R6P22 - OT TREY PIPKINS, SIOUX FALLS
7: R7P6 - WR GARY JENNINGS JR., WEST VIRGINIA

(Used the CBS Aggregate Big Board)

By #23, five OTs and three CBs were gone. Thompson and Love solidify the secondary. By their picks at 2(22) and 2(23), two more OTs were gone. Their top RB hits FA in 2020 and their backup RB is a free agent this year. Texans pursue an OT in free agency with over $77 million in cap space. If they let Clowney hit the market, Dante Fowler or Dee Ford could be options. Justin Houston may be a cap casualty.

CINCINNATI BENGALS
Top Needs: LB, OT, EDGE, DL, OG, CB, S

R1P11 - QB Kyler Murray, Oklahoma
R2P10 - LB Devin Bush, Michigan
R3P08 - DL Zach Allen, Boston College
R4P08 - OT Isaiah Prince, Ohio State
R5P11 - LB Cameron Smith, USC
R6P10 - CB Jamal Peters, Mississippi State
R6P25 - G Zack Bailey, South Carolina
R6P37 - EDGE Carl Granderson, Wyoming
R6P38 - S Darius West, Kentucky
R6P40 - CB Jordan Brown, South Dakota State
R7P09 - WR Greg Dortch, Wake Forest

QB of the future? Check
LB problem solved? Check
Versatile DL? Check
Starter at OT? Check

Happy with the first four picks, everything after was gravy.

Realistically, Cincy is probably gonna shop two or three of their 6th-round picks to move up somewhere, probably to take a CB or interior OL that they like.

I also don't think getting Murray at 11 is realistic after his measurements at the combine, but I think Zac Taylor would jump at the chance to get his own QB right out of the gate.

33: R2P1 - WR DK METCALF, OLE MISS
65: R3P1 - OT BOBBY EVANS, OKLAHOMA
103: R4P1 - LB BOBBY OKEREKE, STANFORD
139: R5P1 - WR ANDY ISABELLA, UMASS
174: R6P1 - G NATE DAVIS, UNC-CHARLOTTE
179: R6P6 - QB RYAN FINLEY, NC STATE
207: R6P34 - DL DANNY WISE, KANSAS

249: R7P35 - TE DAX RAYMOND, UTAH STATE
254: R7P40 - LB DRUE TRANQUIL, NOTRE DAME

(Matt Miller's Big Board used)

Arizona has lots of needs on both sides of the ball. While there is talk of drafting Murray with the number 1 pick, that's a little premature IMO. Rosen needs weapons with Fitzgerald their only WR in the top 50 NFL receivers. Their running game ranks last in the NFL. They have one pick in rounds 1-5, but three picks in each of the sixth and seventh.

Bosa will pair up with Sheldon Leonard on the edges and improve the pass rush. The Cardinals lose starters at RT, LG, LDE (and backup) and WLB.

Bosa and Metcalf are ranked #1 at their positions (Metcalf will probably be gone). But in this scenario and with Isabella clocking a 4.31, tying for first, at the combine 40 and 1600 yds over the regular season, why not two WRs? Metcalf ran a 4.33. Fitzgerald is approaching retirement age. Evans will start on day 1, too. Davis will contend for a starting position. Okereke and Tranquil will toughen up the LBs positions. With a down year, Love has dropped and can be a three down RB.

Finley is the backup and will improve with a year of S&C and learning the NFL. Wise and Raymond are value picks with Raymond improving their receiving corps. I liked Wise over two other B12 DLs available at that time - Nelson and Bledsoe.

Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders

Using CBS Aggregate
(Revised after Antonio Brown trade, losing 3rd and 5th round picks)

4: R1P4 - LB DEVIN WHITE, LSU
24: R1P24 - CB GREEDY WILLIAMS, LSU
27: R1P27 - EDGE JACHAI POLITE, FLORIDA
35: R2P3 - RB JOSH JACOBS, ALABAMA
106: R4P4 - OT BOBBY EVANS, OKLAHOMA
196: R6P23 - RB DEVINE OZIGBO, NEBRASKA
218: R7P4 - WR MILES BOYKIN, NOTRE DAME
235: R7P21 - TE DAX RAYMOND, UTAH ST.

Raiders free agency 2019: What condition each position is in from critical to strong

In Free Agency, I would sign Anthony Barr and a Safety, which is deep this year. So I am skipping S. Raiders lose Starters at RDE, DT, RB, FS and TE to FA as well as backups at WR, LT, LG, RB, FS, both CB, both DEs. Next year they lose Starters at SS (Joseph) and WR (Nelson) to FA. Since they have no RBs at this time, I draft two.

PJ Hall moves to a starting position at DT.

Draft - Raiders trade back with Denver, who wants to jump the NYG for a QB and receive the Bronco's 1st (#10) and 2nd (or 2020 picks) plus 6th or 7th round picks. Oakland's at 4= 1800 pt. Oakland may still get Edge prospects like Sweat, Burns or Gary with their first pick and with 27 pick a MLB like Bush or an OT like Cajuste. Trade Chart

A 4 round Pittsburgh mock with the extra 3rd for AB

Round 1: Devin Bush, LB

Devin White and Devin Bush are clearly the two best linebackers in this draft. People were concerned with his height going into the combine, but his wingspan and 40 time silenced all the doubt. Pittsburgh needs to replace Shazier, Devin Bush just might do that.

Round 2: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, DB

The most versatile defensive back in the draft. Pittsburgh needs a nickel back. They hoped Morgan Burnett would be that guy but that failed. CGJ can play pretty much everywhere.

Round 3: Hakeem Butler, WR

Antonio Brown's replacement, but he is polar opposite of AB. Butler is an alien. 6'6", 35" arms, and ran a 4.48. He's going to be a cheat code with jump balls. He'll be well liked in Pittsburgh.

Round 3: Amani Oruwariye, CB

I don't think he'll be there in the middle of the 3rd, but oh well. A long corner that Pittsburgh is desperate for. He ran well and did 17 reps on the bench. He would play almost right away.

Round 4: Justice Hill, RB

Probably the best running back in space in this draft. Ran a 4.4 and had a 40 inch vert at the combine. Pittsburgh needs more speed on offense and at running back. His presence will be felt immediately in the backfield.

As a Steelers fan I’d be happy with that draft.

I’m not a fan of Bush (his size worries me) but I think that unless White falls, Bush will be the pick and I support it because they can’t miss out on a top ILB this draft.

I think that they go CB in the second round and safety in the third - fifth range just because they’ve got two young players at safety there now. Also, the safety free agent market is really good so I wouldn’t be surprised if they cut Burnett and added a more veteran player.

I think Pitt is going to need more help than that in terms of offensive skill positions. Ben gonna get a big new contract, and needs more bright shiny toys.

Well, they need more help on defense than offense. Their offense will have Ben, Conner, Jaylen Samuels, JuJu, Switzer, Vance McDonald, and James Washington. In my mock, I gave them Butler and Hill. I could see them going after a pass catching tight end in the draft or getting a receiver in FA.

Defensively, its an absolute mess on the back end.

The combine answered all my questions about Bush.

I doubt the draft falls the way it did in my mock. But if it did and Pittsburgh took those guys, I’d be ecstatic. That’s 5 guys who would all contribute in their rookie season.

I'd agree. Pitt was great on D from a total yards and yards per game basis, but not so good scoring. Didn't watch them all that much, and just see that stats. Is it just the DBs? Did they play break, don't bend? :)

Total yards perspective, both O and D were top 10 though. I do think JJ needs a legit #2 though.

The front 7 was pretty amazing. They led the NFL in sacks in 2017 and I think they finished second last season. They still need an ILB and someone on the other side of TJ Watt. Bud Dupree is too inconsistent.

The safeties are alright; they’re both young. But they need to get Artie Burns off the field. He is trash. That’s why I drafted two secondary players in the first 3 rounds. The biggest issue with the secondary is that they gave up a lot of splash plays.

The Steelers do need a good #2 receiver. They were spoiled with having two top 10 receivers. James Washington can be that guy, but he needs to show it this offseason. There are a lot of really good receivers in this draft. I really like Hakeem Butler, Deebo Samuel, Terry McLauren, and many others.
