Mooney being out made Durham and Laz carry the load inside...and it wasn't pretty. They eventually started pounding it inside, but it took 35 minutes to take effect.

No more games without Mooney or we're screwed.

This is a pretty good Toledo team we're playing. Up 2 at the first TV timeout.

Durham has 2 dunks on lobs, and two terrible jump shots. I say this in all honesty, I do not remember an occasion where the ball was sent in to the post (to him) and it was passed back out. If anyone has video of this occurring, let me know.

Edit: Scratch that, just witnessed it for an open 3 (we missed, duh).

God it's so hard to watch us on offense.

Starting to think Ingelsby leaving had more of an impact than I assumed.

Pretty sure we just lost Carmody again. Looks like his shoulder popped out.

I’m hoping it’s just a minor injury but it didn’t look great

These games are so hard to watch now. These past 2 years are not brey teams and it’s extremely disappointing to watch

We had our best recruiting class ever last year and what do we have to show for it? Nothing right now. Extremely disappointing

I have some shoulder issues even after surgery. Sometimes your shoulder can still move but not completely pop out. It scared the shit out of me the first time it happened. I’m hoping this is all it was for Robby. Normally just minor soreness and it’s fine in a day or two.

I absolutely refuse to watch a game anymore without drinking.

You literally can’t watch without drinking it’s frustrating. We just seem like we have no swag like the old brey teams used to have.

So frustrating.

"Hey, the Knapke kid is sitting on his ass on the bench, what should we do?"

"Let's go 2-3 and give up 2 wide open 3's."

"Yea, that'll catch them by surprise."

I know I'm a Irish homer, but if anyone else saw the foul they just called on Mooney, that is one of the 3 worst calls I've ever witnessed on live TV.

Edit: They called it on Gibbs, as the guy was grabbing him around the screen, still awful.

If you remove Goodwin, we were 3-27 from 3.

That is a level of ineptitude that may somehow be a record.

Unreal.

I give Rex grief, but man, he made some huge plays. He has limitations, but he just plays so freaking hard.

Gibbs and Hubb have to really pull their heads out of their butts.

Hopefully that shot wakes Laz up. He is 6'10, has played pretty good interior defense, has shown he can take it to the hole. If he can be a 3 level scorer, that can give our guards some wide open looks to throw the ball off the side of the backboard.

Hate being so happy about a win over Toledo but a wins a win especially they way we shot we should not have won.

The thing the baffles my mind is laz was an absolute monster at 3pts in high school. I mean he won the 3pt contest for all of high school. The fact he hasn’t been able to translate that over to college is very frustrating. If he can just start hitting those 3 it stretches the floor so much and we might actually look like a brey squad if that happens.

Good win. 5-1 I’m not gonna be mad about that

Ugh. Reading this confirms my fears for this season. It’s early, but this team has got to get some cohesion. I know the Presbyterian win they were w/o three or four guys but still. Good thing there’s plenty of games to be played. Hope Carmody is ok. Shoulder issues can be so damn chronic. That’s what worries me about Daelin Hayes...kid has had some serious issues w/ shoulder.

In case anyone missed these gems...

Top is one of the worst calls of all time. I thought they called it on Gibbs, apparently it did get put on Mooney. You can't defend that.

Bottom: Didn't see this the first time - watch Gibbs after the shot. I know he flops quite a bit, but it looks like he gets completely swung around after the shot.

We need to make some shots, but that one ref was just....yeeesh.

FWIW Toledo also averaged 91 points entering that game.

I think ND's D could be a strength this year. Rex bringing the scrapiness back.

Not "could be" it is. And if we keep up the inept shooting its our only hope.

So unlike Brey ball in years past. We've always had wings who could shoot.

Brey reported in the post game that Carmady has a bruise and should be fine for Tuesday's game.

I meant it as "Could, actually, be" as in, something different/unexpected (relative to Brey's past teams).

This.

If Laz can start hitting the 3 at a decent percentage, this offense will start to take shape. Laz is the key.

With the way they played D, they deserved the win.
Also, Toledo is projected to win the MAC and would count as a nice W on a tourney resume.

This was a good win, for sure.

That's truly insane. Want to call a travel? Fine. But there is a 0.0% chance that a Notre Dame player committed a FOUL on that play.

Not much to say about that game. Toledo is a good mid-major this year. We played like shit. Last year we lose that game. I think this ND team will be disruptive in the ACC in the sense they will beat some teams they shouldn't, but then lose to some teams they shouldn't due to the hit or miss reliance on the 3.

Well I did not know Toledo is supposed to be that good so I guess it is a good win. Would be nice if Toledo actually made the tourney and winning the MAC. Would be good for us

I admittedly turned the game off with a minute left down 5. I luckily was on twitter when I seen Noie say that the game was going into OT so I didn’t miss it.

On another note, I tweeted at Noie at halftime asking when Nate Laszewski was going to show a little emotion. The dude is the most straight faced DI athlete I’ve ever seen. He sure showed the emotion after hitting that game tying 3. Hopefully a turning point for the young man.

Robby Carmody more than makes up for it. Not that anyone really should, but if you're glutton for punishment, watch the game from when Goodwin caught fire and keep an eye on Carmody on the bench. He was going crazy. When Laz hit that shot, I half expected him to tackle someone.

I seen him chest pump Goodwin (post injury) after a TO which makes me believe that the shoulder isn’t a big deal. He’ll probably miss a game, maybe two for precautionary reasons.

I noticed Carmody going crazy a couple times when he was in the game. With the amount of fans inside you could hear him screaming a couple times on TV. Hopefully his brother brings that energy to the gridiron.

Defense is excellent. That's going to keep them in a lot of games this year.

Offense is...a work in progress to put it kindly.

So far, this is about where I expected them to be. A team that's likely going to be a fringe tournament team, give ACC teams fits, but probably will finish somewhere in the 7-11 range of the conference.

If Laz can find his shot, that's going to go a long way in improve ND's tournament odds. Seeing Goodwin turn into a force off the bench was reassuring.
