First exhibition tonight. I have no idea what to expect from this team.

I think we see some improvements from the younger guys. I'm not expecting Gibbs to be anything but frustrating to watch.

Irish are predicted to finish 6th in the ACC and I think 6th gets them in the Big Dance.

I would have expected us to be predicted to finish much lower than 6th. Maybe there’s some hope for a good season

I don’t know if anyone knows what to expect this year. I do expect to see them improve a lot. I mean we literally bring every player back. Mooney gonna go off again.

Also Gibbs had a terrible year cause he was handling the ball. With hubb stepping up and having a year under his belt Gibbs numbers should go up I would expect.

Rex we know what we are gonna get. Great D. Good passer. And will have a game here and there where he goes for 20 out of nowhere.

The other guys I have no idea what’s gonna happen.

I think hubb is really gonna breakout this year and be a monster

I thought we were predicted to finish 7th but either way right in the middle

I think they were at ACC media day. Although, I've seen them as high as 5, and as low as 9.

I know it's the first exhibition game, and it's probably a bit of PTSD, but I really need to see a 3 go down. So far, it's like last season again.

I have PTSD too watching haha. Makes me nervous that we still can’t hit shots

up 35-25 at the half. Shot well late. Capital is what you'd expect from a D3 outfit. Small, runs a motion offense, scrappy.

didn't recognize Gibbs initially. ("who's that black guy? Its not Hubb or Durham) He's lost a lot of weight. This is a good thing.

Not going to learn a lot from this, but seeing Rex move so well is a welcome sign.

I bought the six pack for the UNC tix, so they better not suck!

Irish win easily. Capital really fell apart in the 2nd half. Concerned about the lack of outside shooting from ND; we won't get a lot of easy put backs inside vs real teams like we did tonite.

Robby Carmody really plays like the game means everything to him, total effort and very smart too. But he cannot shoot. Teams will just lay off him and he won't be able to drive for layups vs the ACC big boys.

I was pretty frustrated with the same finishing at the hoop "ability" of last year. Against an undersized unit TJ in particular just refused to go strong to the hoop when he drove. Just don't foul the guy and he will miss 80% of his semi-contested lane shots. Sheesh. I'm worried giving TJ 30+ minutes per game is going to hold this team back.

Mooney looks ready to make First Team All-ACC team - Durham looks more comfortable out there. Dane is solid - looking for him to make a nice bump in numbers this year. Really good to see Rex out there.

Should learn quite a bit about the team today. I know Bellarmine is DII, but they are ranked #3, and are moving to D1 next year. Watching the Louisville game, they have a bit of size, and some pretty decent athletes. While I don't think we should lose, they probably will test us for some time.

A few things I'd like to see, or more specifically, questions I'd at least like to have an inkling of understanding into before Tuesday...

1. Are we capable of hitting shots? Nate let fire from deep early in the game, which means he hasn't let last year ruin his confidence (even though he missed those shots). Hubb still has a low release point, but the trajectory isn't as bad as last year. If we can't hit shots, nothing else really matters.

2. Can anyone get to the rim (and actually finish)? Carmody showed that he likes to put his head down and go hard, but I'm not sure that's going to translate as well as I'd hope this year. Goodwin and Gibbs need to finish better. Lord help me, right now I have the most confidence in Djogo getting to the rim and finishing of our perimeter players, and that is not a great feeling.

3. Are we going to actually play that hard on Defense? Or was that a "We're only up 10 on a DIII team" effort in the second half. I'd love to see us in the top 50 KenPom for Defensive Efficiency this year (I went back last 5, lowest of 52 set last year). With the versatility of our line-ups, I think doing that shouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

4. How many guys we going to play? We can put out some diverse lineups. And until guys can show they can be multi-faceted, we may have to mix and match quite a bit. But, we know Brey and his "limited" bench. How is he going to manage that?

I think we'll get a pretty good luck at what we are tonight against a DII school that is probably better than most low-level DI schools.

Mark Williams committed to Duke today. If Dickerson was going there, he isn't now.

Probably was already, but now it's more than likely an us vs Michigan battle.

We've shot the 3 like garbage, but they are all online.

Hubb's release point is still a bit low, but the trajectory is much better than last year (not a low release-point moon ball).

We haven't hit the side of the backboard yet, which is a plus.

On the negative side, I can't see Durham being anything but a put back guy against ACC competition. He's 6'11", but makes himself 6'6 when shoots.

I really don't like how we're utilizing Laz.

I think they're trying to get Laz to develop as a post player. Preseason games are a good way to do this.

Somebody (hubb) finally hit some threes and we're up nine at the half.

I know, I just don't get why. This is a team that literally can't shoot, again. This is painful to watch, and the guy with the most hype as a shooter is spending the majority of his time in the game at the 5 (truth be told, I've been in and out today, so maybe he played more stretch than I'm aware).

If we get no shooting from any guards, what are the options?

And not only that, he's only played a few minutes in the second half, not a great omen.

EDIT: I'm sorry, but you can't convince me that Carmody or Goodwin are currently better than Djogo. And that's not a high bar.

Agree on Djogo. Only played 2 minutes last night. I guess he's just a contingency plan for Brey at this point in his career; they know what he can do.

Somebody has to develop as a wing shooter or we're looking at defenses sagging on Mooney all year. And Mooney stepping outside and shooting is exactly what the other teams want.

Gibbs returning to his soph form looks like its not happening.

Honest question...

Is there anything more insufferable than Jay Bilas doing a Duke game?

Gameday!! Who’s pumped?

If we can hit shots from the outside then I think we can keep it close tonight and possibly win. Sucks having to play on the road against a top 10 team to start season but it will be interesting to see how we start the year. We have a mature group this year and that always help when your going on the road against a team that’s pretty young. Especially since it’s the first game.

I"m not getting my hopes up for a W but I want to see the boys come out and compete on the road in a tough environment.

Duke's offense didn't look very good last night, albeit it's the first game, but showing we can be tough against UNC on opening night gives me hopes we can stay with the top of the ACC. Duke is looks to be a fraction of what they were last year IMO.

Prediction... this thread will be a shit show during and after the game. Opinions will be exchanged and some will call out others for not knowing a GD thing about basketball. Also, many, many posts about how we are 2-3 years away from being competitive.

This honestly should be a tight game. UNC's team isnt the same as last year and ND is basically returning the same team. This could be one of those games where the Irish catch them early because they haven't had time to gel as a team yet.

I'm holding out hope.
