12-0 twice. Brian Kelly is a pretty good coach. Maybe not a full statue but he deserves a plaque or something. Lol.
Interesting point. He could theoretically pass Rockne and not have a title. What do you do with that?

Not to be an apologist, but the extreme travel we have had the past month combined with playing Navy which always takes a physically toll I think finally caught up with us. Looking forward to having a healthy Tranquil and an overall less banged up team against Clemson.

meh. they should have stayed at a holiday inn

when you don't call plays to the strength of your O, you're going to struggle with execution. We know very well what Book does well, and what the OL can handle. We can't be surprised when Long calls something he doesn't do well, and the play fails. It's happened time after time this year when Long goes against what works.

USC was playing close to the line scrimmage all night which took out our strength in the short game. The intermediate and deep game had to be involved to loosen them up along with misdirection. The misdirection is what worked brilliantly. If book could hit the intermediate and deep, that would have worked brilliantly too

I don't think the facts of this game support that. Book missed a wide open Finke for what would have been a walk in touchdown. Book at one point missed 7 straight passes on some pretty easy routes. I am not knocking Book. He played well and really showed heart tonight. But knocking Long seems crazy to me after the last few games. After being really suspect at times earlier in the year, he has been phenomenal down the stretch.

Well, pretty sure this means we avoid Alabama.

If Georgia beats them, then it's a top 4 of Clemson at one, with Us, Georgia, and Bama. Because at that point you have to have Georgia ahead of Bama, I don't think there is a configuration where we would play them.

If Bama wins, then I'd assume we finish as the three, with either OSU or Oklahoma playing Bama.

I'll take that.

Long has been incredibly suspect in the late 1Q and 2Q for a majority of the year. you only need to look at the game thread where every other post was "WTF playcalling" tonight, and also many of the previous games (in the 2Q).

Apparently a brick on the concourse. I think I’m gonna set up the Bluto Foundation for Pretty Good Coaches Who Went 12-0 but Didn’t Win the Natty and buy bricks for all of them!

My internet research shows that Tuscaloosa is closer to Dallas than Miami. So assuming Bama wins out, I think we want the Orange Bowl. Do I understand this right?

The game thread is not exactly the best place for analysis.

no, not in depth.... but it's a great indicator of the majority of people all saying the same thing... and the overwhelming majority questioned the play calling.

I’ll add, it’s imperative we don’t get stomped out... we can be Clemson and lose close and build,... or lose big and stay UW level, good but no real threat. If they don’t win the natty, make it a fight.

This is where I’m at. It would’ve been embarrassing to lose to a 5-6 team regardless of their talent & the rivalry but if you’re tired of hearing haters bring up the 2012 beatdown...let them get embarrassed again. ND has to at least compete to garner any national respect.

My cynical hunch tells me the media is going to play up the fact that ND is sitting at home while others are truly EARNING their way to the CFP. (Yes, I know Bama got in last year & tOSU did when they weren’t in a conf champ game). I think the media bias & that fact being discussed in the CFP comittee meeting will have them drop ND to #4.

The team looked jet lagged to me, otherwise a decent game.Book missed some wide open guys, but the Defense showed up the second half.

ND will be #3. You heard it here first.

D was good enough. The jump ball to Boykin was overused tonight. Dexter was a difference maker. ND should've scored at least 40 in that D. 12-0, not always pretty, but take it and move on.

Lots of stuff to work on. I wasn't expecting them to come out so flat, especially considering what was on the line. I hate, hate, hate all the soft coverage we play in the secondary. I've hated it all year and it bit them in the first half tonight. There's a few other things that bothered me, but theres no point in complaining about it now.

Congrats to the team on getting to 12-0! Get everything worked out over the next 5 weeks.
