Wimbush didn't catch his eye enough to be listed first?

I find it interesting that Pete has mentioned Lawrence Keys both times he's watched practice. They also talked about him on the Podcast. Though he is small, apparently he's insanely quick and very difficult for the DB's to stay with.

There are 10 scholly WR's. Micah Jones, Chase Claypool, Miles Boykin, Javon McKinley, and Kevin Austin are all bigger bodied receivers. I think Lawrence Keys III & Braden Lenzy bring a different look at WR that ND doesn't have without those two. I know Chris Finke, Michael Young, and Joe Wilkins don't have the same type of wiggle and/or speed as those two.

Bk notes that Wilkins has been catching their attention. With Young limited, he's getting more reps. Says that his defensive days are behind him. Lol, that was quick. Probably a good sign for his long term projection at WR if they've concluded that already.

He's quicker than Lenzy's fast

si.com had opposing coaches give their scouting report on top twenty teams. The coaches quoted below were granted anonymity in exchange for their candor in assessing teams that could loom large on the upcoming season’s schedule. Here's what one coach said about ND.

NOTRE DAME
Senior Brandon Wimbush is one of the best running quarterbacks in the country, and it all starts with him. Defenses are going to have trouble containing him. They’ve got the big receiver [6'4" junior Chase Claypool] who’s a mismatch when he gets in the red zone. ... Overall there’s more consistency on the offense. The line was outstanding last year, and the guys they’ve got coming in are really good too. I’m impressed with their receivers. Defending them comes down to limiting the big play. Tackling in the open field, not allowing for big plays—those are things to focus on. ...

Safety Nick Coleman anchors the defense, and the unit as a whole can take a big step forward this year. Clark Lea [the defensive coordinator, who was promoted from LBs coach] is a great defensive mind. He’ll do a fine job. I think anytime you can have continuity, it helps the players. They don’t have to learn a new language. ... Special teams coordinator Brian Polian is one of the best. They’ve won games based on special teams alone, and this year they’ve got a great kicker in Justin Yoon too. ... They surprised people last year, and I don’t think it was a fluke. There’s a sneaky upside with this team.

Hope he meant "anchors" as in held us back, or slowed us down...

On a serious note, it sounds like something has clicked for Nick.

He's getting incredible reviews across the media so far.

Absolutely, I'm not saying he can't be great. I'm just saying anyone who watched film on us last year and says that nick anchored us, in a positive manner, shouldn't be taken seriously.

But he could still be great this year.

I find all of the praise for Nick Coleman so out of the blue. He hasn't been mentioned once in the safety rotation. I don't think he played terribly bad last year, but he didn't do anything that wowed you, either.

I wonder if his recent resurgence will shake up the safety rotation with Elliott, Gilman, and Griffith

Coleman was solid last year. Everybody was down on the safety spot because they didn't have any INT's. They tackled MUCH better last season as compared to '16.

This year, he's being mentioned at nickel / dime more so than Stud or Whip. He'll be in some sort of rotation with Crawford, Griffith, etc, based on opposition/scheme, down & distance.

*Edit* After listening to the II guys, sounds like he's in the mix for safety after the past two practices.

fades to a dude who is 5'8" lol

I wouldn't call that a fade route. That's a post corner route from the slot. Given matchups, thats a great call/route. Depending on S coverage, that's a very difficult cover for a Nickel 1 on 1.

If he ends up with a LB/SS on him in the slot, that route's money... especially when Claypool/Boykin crosses/picks the defenders.

I'm just alluding to the fact that 1) Finke usually has a limited role in offense to begin with 2) we're probably going to be seeing more two TE sets.

Not saying it can't/won't happen.
