That was a very hard fought game. I’m extremely proud of the boys today. Beat they have played all year possibly. At least against a ranked team

Laz is the missing piece. His rep was of a great long distance shooter. Hasn't converted to the college game yet but if it does we can score. Gibbs and Harvey has finally hit their stride and Mooney is a solid ACC talent. Just need a shooter to take some heat off those three guys.

Was thinking about that right after the game. Man, what I wouldn't give to still have Matt Ryan on this roster. Although, I say that as a piece of the team we saw today, not most the team we've seen most of the season.

The first half was the best I'd seen us play defense in some time. Yea, they got open perimeter looks, but for the most part it was guys we could live with. Unlucky for us, we were playing a top 4 team with one guy that can actually hit a mid-range jumper (Hunter) and a guy who can get his shot off against anyone (Guy). Second half wasn't nearly as good, but well enough to beat most teams.

Yea, Laz just isn't comfortable. But today he played hard and with a lot of confidence. Keep shooting. I have a pretty good feeling Tuesday at home he's going to break out of his shooting slump. You don't get that reputation as a shooter by accident, and with an actual look of confidence, I think it's about time he shows up.

Loved Brey's comment about Hunter getting "Lebron calls" going to the hoop. Thought that was great.

And from what I understand, Kyle Guy is graduating in three years, and his girlfriend is coming to ND for Grad School. Heard we're looking for another Grad Transfer....

Today showed progress. Especially Gibbs and Harvey. I did expect Harvey to gradually improve as he got healthier and more familiar with the system. I'm proud of Gibbs as I had begun to lose faith that he was going to ever get it. These last few games have been a step in the right direction for him.

Shooting is still bad, but Virginia is also arguably the best defensive team in the country, so it's hard to be too down about the shooting effort. I think saying Laz is the missing piece is only part of the story. ND has a lot of guys I could consider the "missing piece". Just goes to show that this team has a lot of talent, it just needs time to put it all together, which made the complaints about Brey's supposed "poor" recruiting effort all the more head scratching.

And the stretch run to the NIT begins today.

Still a shot at getting out of the ACC first round as well.

For some reason, the last two games have given me renewed hope. I fully expect us, after my posting this, to fall flat.

We look every bit as good tonite as we did vs UVA.

Swarbrick doesn’t have the balls to do it, but this season and coaching job is almost fire worthy. But I know, young team, the injury bug, and football school. The same excuses every time.

If anything it might be time for Brey to make some assistant coaching changes. I don't think you can bring back the same coaching staff after this fiasco. I don't care if they are young, too hurt or it is a football school. No excuse for the team to play this poorly.

I don't see how this teams makes the NCAA tournament next year. Then it will be 3 years with no tournament for Brey and then he will be on the hot seat in the fall of 2020.

Had both games (ND and IU) on dueling TVs tonight. I thought for sure IU would get blown out, and ND would win pretty easily over Wake. IU was close all 2nd half and down to the last few seconds. ND phoned it in. Both losses, but expected more from ND tonight. College BBall just sucks this year.

Travelling and missed both games - UVA tweets were encouraging, WF tweets were OK until they got suicidal. Tom Noie can suck it - he has been pretty awful all year. Poor guy has to watch sports and write about it for a living couldn't be more negative.

I find it interesting Djogo has been part of the solution to improvement. These frosh need to grow up faster.

This made me rofl.

Not disagreeing the product is awful (predict, even before the additional subtractions).

But no excuses? This is the perfect shitstorm of bad.

Gap year (already destined for bad, had this season on my calendar for years)
Injuries (rex and rob)
Players playing through injuries (Juwan)
Players returning from injuries (DJ and Prentiss)
Transfer (Elijah)

They were going to have a bad hand this year, it got a lot worse. It sucks, but it is what it is.

The young guys "can't" get better, if there's no one better on the team to play with. This is a bad roster, with young guys that are playing with poor chemistry. Water and oil don't mix, no matter how hard you try.

This is a classic example of needing a fresh start. ZERO graduations this year. Next year is "judgement year" 200%

(side note, we're not getting a coach better than Mike Brey...sorry to burst your bubble)

Let's shake things up, and send Brey to IU, and Archie to ND for a year.

Every time I start to question if we're really going to be much better next year, I think about the situation IU is in.....

And then I feel better.

I would much rather see Goodwin or Laszewski starting than Djogo...just sayin...and imo, Durham still doesn't play enough..

I think both will suck next year too. IU at least has a 5 star coming in (maybe one more), plus a 4 star. I see both teams looking a lot like they looked this year....

Unless they get Brooks, they are going to be really bad next year. There are "Zion" 5 stars, I don't think Jackson-Davis is one of them.

Parrish and Norlander were talking about IU on the CBS podcast. If you would have said when Archie was hired, 3 years in he'd be on the hot seat, I'd have taken that bet against it.

But I'm thinking that may well be the case.

For ND, I'm still going to give Brey the benefit of the doubt, as he's definitely earned it. After a year of substantial minutes, players tend to grow quite a bit (see any number of examples over the years). If that's the case, I can't help but see us improving quite a bit. Couple that with a league that I have to believe will take a step back next year, and hopefully you have a combination for us to compete.

Edit: While I typed this, I have the Duke UNC game on. Wife asked who I wanted to win. Said neither, but if I had to choose, I'd pick UNC. 30 seconds later kid in the next room puked everywhere. I have to assume he heard me. Disgusted and proud at the same time.

I definitely disagree that this team will be bad next year.

As stated, the entire roster is coming back and a ton of players who had no previous experience, not just in Brey's system, but in CBB in general, will have it now.

I think this team should at least be on the bubble, middle of the pack ACC team with somewhere in the realm of 8-11 ACC wins. A lot of it depends on, well of course health, but also somebody stepping up and becoming the main guy on offense. Hubb has shown promise in running the point despite being thrown to the wolves and being underweight. Gibbs has stepped it up a bit the last few games. Harvey has shown terrific upside, but he needs to learn to play within the system. Laz shows terrific range, but he needs to gain at least 20 pounds. Maybe Carmody comes back from injury and surprises. I thought he'd be the guy to emerge on offense.

Brey's gonna have to find a way to get the most of the rotation. If that means playing more bodies, which he isn't used to, so be it.

Archie inherited a pile of crap, and one nice toy (Morgan). He doesn't have to win the Big next year to keep off the hot seat, he just needs to be more consistent. Don't blow out Marquette, and beat Louisville and Mich St, then lose at home to a middle of the pack team. They lost last night on a tip in with 3 seconds left to #15 with only 23 combined from Morgan and Langford. In all honesty, I think they play better on O when they are not trying to use Morgan as the centerpiece...

For IU, they need a pure shooter more than anything. They have some guys coming back that could really turn it on next year, but I'll believe it when I see it. Phin is going to be good. IU had huge injury issues this year and had to rely on kids they shouldn't have.... a walk on that wouldn't shoot for one.... , so I think just getting kids healthy will go a long way. I think you may see a transfer or two as well.

ND had injury issues as well. Even healthy though, some kids are going to have to take some big steps forward. Wouldn't be shocked to see a transfer or two at ND as well.

Missed Zion knee injury.

Anything serious? I hate Duke, but actually like this kid. If I could jump and move like that, I would literally talk shit to any living, breathing thing that I walked by on a basketball court. Seems he's really grounded (and an Anime fan).

Edit: And pretty sure this proves that the whole Bilas/media line of "Trey Jones is the most important player on Duke" was a garbage take. No, no he's not. It's not RJ. It's not Cam. It's Zion, but a monstrous amount. And it only took hooking some handlers up with jobs to get him to Durham.

Edit 2: Twitterverse (oh so reliable) is saying looked bad? Reading from CBB reporters that Dad went back to the locker, came back out and got mom to go back as well. Stepdad, on hearing news, got his coat and left. Rumor mill a swirling, but this can't be a good thing.
