Prediction: this will be a highly depressing thread. (Except of course for UM, OSU, etc., fans.)

I know everyone is tired of hearing/reading it, especially from him, but, unfortunately, there could end up being some validity to this come NSD. We've sent out some new offers, and the staff is working, and working hard, I'm just not sure how much of a difference it's going to make in the end. I'm hopeful we get some kids the staff is targeting, we shall see.

Side note: some of the names were pretty damned funny, though!!

Dude...I know how you could fix that problem.

1) Accidental discharge of a firearm while you are cleaning it
2) shock collar

...ok I'm not positive the second one will work, but you'd at least giggle your ass off when you caught him...my bet is he shoots straight up in the air like a rocket, and then lands, and bolts into a wall...I'd gladly clean pee if I could see that once in a while...

That's great. Cat's name is Rocket so might give #2 a try.

Is he?? I'd certainly like to add him!!

Freebie from Loy/247

Penn State commit Mac Hippenhammer offered by Notre Dame

The local talent is contemplating two official visits before completely shutting down his recruitment. He will be at Penn State on Jan. 20 and then potentially be at Notre Dame on Jan. 27. However, the Notre Dame trip isn't 100-percent locked in yet.

That said, Hippenhammer will visit Notre Dame on Monday for an unofficial visit and get a chance to talk with the coaching staff in person.

I agree with your comments. I don't think anyone wants 100% positivity on a discussion forum - there are certainly things to be concerned about - it's really more how you say it, how often, etc...

I didn't start this thread because I was predicting or hoping for a positive recruiting finish. I started it because I thought it might be interesting.

Having said that, I am cautiously optimistic that the new hires are working their butts off and could have some success. I don't think it will offset the losses, but how they finish might generate some much needed optimism about this new staff moving forward.

Agreed, and I repped you for starting this discussion, as I think it's a good way to keep track of possibilities. I was afraid I would be taken as me bitching, as I've done my fair share, but I do believe the new coaching staff is working their butts off to secure more athletes. I just hope it pays off in the end.

I am not going to go back and re-read posts to see if you were pretty negative - I think you were : ) - but you have made some great recent posts.

I probably trend towards wanting to be positive - because this is my entertainment/decompressing outlet - so I have no problem with those who are pulled towards being the voice of reason.

We need BOTH viewpoints for great dialogue. It's the HOW you say it that's important and I have really appreciated all of your recent posts.

BTW - I have no idea how repping works : ). I have repped people but don't know how to tell if I've been repped. Thanks!

I can't tell them from my phone, in the comments, but if you go to the CP User and click on it, it'll tell you who repped you and who you've repped. I've been jaded to a point, since I can remember the days of greatness, from the late 80's through the early 90's, and now been mired in mediocrity for about half of the last 20 years or so. We've had some great seasons, and some absolute horrendous ones........

Hey thanks for the info!

Yeah I've always been a huge ND fan and remember the better years so I can relate. What I miss from those years was a mauling OLine. You just felt like they could just RTDB down the field at will. Maybe they'll have that a little bit next year. I went to Navy and actually rooted for ND to win those games so Navy wouldn't mess up their season : ).

So if everyone had 3 people they could realistically flip... Who do they want to flip to ND?

I was around then. First ND game I ever went to was 73 Sugar Bowl

No freakin way... really? Has to be cool to say your first game was one of, if not THE, greatest games in college football history....

Grandfather worked for Dolly Madison outside of Montgomery. He was given 4 tickets to the game. Me, My Father, Grandfather and Uncle went. It was at Tulane University.

My Grandfather hated Bear Bryant...... I asked him (I was 8) who should I root for, he said either team I wanted except for the red team....

Been a domer ever since.

Site of a few Super Bowls as well... my parents were still in grade school but I have watched the game a few times...

Were you old enough or aware enough to understand the importance of the game?

No because I was 8 and it was my first game. We lived in Memphis at the time, my Dad had just got home from Vietnam and they were a Christmas gift to me and my Dad from Pop. We drove down early New Years eve, we left like at 2am in the morning because it was a 7 hour drive back then. 55mph speed limit. Was warm when we left, cold when we got there. Tons of Alabama fans and tons of cigar smoke.

Think it was cigar smoke........

What i wish we could flip Aj Epenesa, Paris Ford, Osiris St Brown

What i think we will end up with WR Hippenhammer, S Genmark-Heath (this seems more more realistic after todays news), CB Norwood, DE Harris.

Awesome thread idea Opie

Lettuce talk about past recruiting wins and flips that rustled everyone

My top 3 that we lost over the years

Alex Anzalone
Robert Beal
Elijah Hood
Eddie Vanderdoes still pisses me off to this day because I knew months before it was actually news

My favorite gains
Brandon Wimbush
Aliz'e Jones
Aaron Lynch and his one season because his recruitment was ridiculous. I still remember the exact moment where I read he was going to visit ND that weekend. I was eating lucky charms and just rolled a jizzle in my roomates room and I thought what a time to light up. Getting Stephon Tuitt back in the same class was awesome because I'm like this will never happen again
Jarron Jones as well I was so excited when he flipped I was driving down 172 and almost drove my car into the bay due to excitement
