Notre Dame is hosting one of the top cornerbacks in the entire 2018 class on Wednesday, when Georgia’s Christian Tutt tours campus.
Tutt and family members were scheduled to arrive in South Bend last night in order to get a full look at what Notre Dame has to offer today.
The 6-foot, 185-pounder, who recently transferred to IMG Academy, already has dozens of offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Miami, South Carolina, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and USC among several others.
Notre Dame is expected to join that list soon, if not today.
“What a lot of schools are doing are seeing how interested he is, especially since he has so many offers already,” a source close to Tutt told Irish Sports Daily in advance of the visit.
“I think they’re just trying to see if he’s really interested in them and if he comes to them, he’ll pretty much get an offer.”
Now that he’s at IMG, he’s heard plenty about Notre Dame from 2016 Irish running back signee Tony Jones Jr. He also has a connection to Irish defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.
“His uncle played for Coach VanGorder when he was the linebacker coach at Georgia and he stayed around there when he was a little kid a lot, so that’s a big plus right there,” the source said, referring to former Bulldog linebacker Danny Verdun Wheeler.
“But hey, it’s Notre Dame, it’s Notre Dame.”
Notre Dame is also hosting a pair of 2017 unofficial visitors who don’t currently hold Irish offers.
Wide receiver/defensive back Cedric Mitchell from nearby Elkhart, Ind., is also in town today. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has a handful of MAC offers along with offers from Iowa State and Temple.
Ohio tight end/wide receiver Charles Reeves will be on campus this week. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Steubenville has offers from schools like Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Pitt, Rutgers and Wisconsin among others.
