Seemed like Ball St took away the 3 point line and that was all it really took...coupled with some clutch shooting on their part. Hope we can figure out some different ways to score.
Because I'm a masochist, I watched a lot of the game again. They didn't take the 3 away, we turned it down. As much as it is an OOC game, I get that, it still showed some massive deficiencies in this team.
I was going to type up some big, long analysis on the team, but it really boils down to:
1.) On offense, the current strengths of each player do not work well in concert. For example, Matt Farrell is a penetrator that wants to collapse and dish (that's what he is at his core right now). But, if 3 of your 4 other options are guys who want to slash or attack the rim, and only want to take a semi-contested jumper as a last resort (or it's a weakness ), that's a problem. I think playing Mooney would be a huge step in the right direction, but that means you have to tell Bonzie to stop drifting so far away from the basket. Oh, and Farrell has to shot. A lot.
2.) Similar issues on defense, but this time our weaknesses seem to overlap and create huge opportunities for teams. Bonzie HAS to guard the post. He's an awful perimeter defender. But what do you do with Geben? Can Mooney or Burns guard the 4? When Geben was in, Ball State went 5 out, with the center used in pick and dive motion over and over. When Mooney was in, they isolated the post. They had us running around a pass behind rotation the entire game due to how much help they needed (Farrell when he was on Parsons) or how undisciplined they were (Colson anytime the ball was within 10 feet of him on the perimeter).
3.) We can't rebound.
