Dude, I work with elementary and high schools all over the country. It's literally my job. I've talked to principals and teachers from blue and red states, and the problems are real. Bullying is way up the past two days, and it's directed at Latinos the most (in the cases I deal with). This shit is absolutely real. Had two teachers tell me, "The new President can do it, why can't I?"
This isn't a left/right thing. Trump won, I've dealt with it. But kids are the ones suffering. And it is fucking heart-breaking. They don't deserve to be told they are going to be deported tomorrow because of the color of the skin or the sound of their last name. They don't deserve to be told "Build a wall! Build a wall" as they eat lunch or as they walk the halls. This isn't "Give me your lunch money" shit, this is shit that will make you feel smaller than small (and enraged) because of something you can't control.
This isn't about me being "soft". Fuck anyone who thinks that. This is about voting in a man who peddled this shit for over a year and a half, and now it's coming home to roost. I dealt with that shit in Orange County when i was the only brown face in a sea of white faces, and it fucks with you. The kids don't deserve it. I'll leave it at that.
Where did you live in Orange County? I have to call BS. I have lived in Orange County since the 1970's and although it may lean Republican it is definitely not a sea of white as you call it. I have lived in four different cities so I think I know the area. The statistics show it is less than 50% white.
