Dude, I work with elementary and high schools all over the country. It's literally my job. I've talked to principals and teachers from blue and red states, and the problems are real. Bullying is way up the past two days, and it's directed at Latinos the most (in the cases I deal with). This shit is absolutely real. Had two teachers tell me, "The new President can do it, why can't I?"

This isn't a left/right thing. Trump won, I've dealt with it. But kids are the ones suffering. And it is fucking heart-breaking. They don't deserve to be told they are going to be deported tomorrow because of the color of the skin or the sound of their last name. They don't deserve to be told "Build a wall! Build a wall" as they eat lunch or as they walk the halls. This isn't "Give me your lunch money" shit, this is shit that will make you feel smaller than small (and enraged) because of something you can't control.

This isn't about me being "soft". Fuck anyone who thinks that. This is about voting in a man who peddled this shit for over a year and a half, and now it's coming home to roost. I dealt with that shit in Orange County when i was the only brown face in a sea of white faces, and it fucks with you. The kids don't deserve it. I'll leave it at that.

Where did you live in Orange County? I have to call BS. I have lived in Orange County since the 1970's and although it may lean Republican it is definitely not a sea of white as you call it. I have lived in four different cities so I think I know the area. The statistics show it is less than 50% white.

It goes both ways. I am so proud of my niece because she was the only student to remain in her class when the f'n teacher organized and lead a walkout in her class today. That takes guts! My brother is going down to demand the teacher be fired tomorrow. These are 15 year old kids so I think we need to look at all these teachers if this is what they are doing in schools today.

Orange County definitely was a sea of white people back in the 70's and 80's . In fact most of the state was.

Maybe the media shares some of the blame? They constantly misrepresented what Trump actually said. Every single one of us knows he was talking exclusively about illegal immigrants. He was talking about deporting those that came here ILLEGALLY. Instead the media turned it into this narrative about how Trump is some big bad xenophobe for simply wanting to enforce laws that already exist. Calling someone a racist over and over again is like calling someone a rapist, regardless of whether it's true or not public perception is set.

We'll never agree on this, so I'm not going to litigate all the reasons that have shown by his own actions and words throughout his life and this campaign what a bigot he is.

But it ain't the media. He LOVED having his protestors chant "Build a Wall!" It was part of his schtick. And he ran a campaign based on hatred and anger (and I fully know that much of the anger he engendered was justified for many people...but many of his supporters blamed the wrong people, and not Washington), so it should be of no surprise that now we're seeing that hatred and violence being played out in real life. And I don't doubt that Trump supporters are getting hate-crimed as well (but not to the extent of the opposite way), but again, the candidate ran a campaign like no one has ever seen, and anyone who didn't see this coming is a blind fool.

Not where I grew up. I also think NDinLA is half my age so don't believe his experience was during those years either.

lol true, Orange county is far from a sea of white

The good thing is we didn't care! We did not have the liberal media and teachers feeding us a bunch of BS. We were friends, teammates, classmates and neighbors. It didn't matter if we were white, black, brown we only cared about the red, white and blue.

I was born in 1974. Lived in Brea, Fullerton, and Huntington Beach. Everything I said was 100% truth.

And calvegas, do better at reading. No one ever said Orange County IS a sea of white. Holy shit. My CLASSES in the late 70''s and early 80's in a very white SEGMENT of OC were a sea of white faces.

LOL if he thinks a teacher is going to get fired over that. It takes an act of Congress (or a sexual abuse charge) to get a teacher fired nowadays.

I'm gonna say it's ugly on both sides right now. That ULL student admitting she lied isn't gonna help matters either.

The original phrasing you used could have led folks to think Orange County is exceptionally white. We got some miscommunication going on here...I think all involved parties need to do a discount double check and R-E-L-A-X.

cavelgas (and others) read what YOU WROTE. Or are you parsing IS, Willy? In your venting it's apparent your posts throughout the campaign weren't about a Trump worker telling you to go home in front of your son, too young to understand the insult. Your venting for months is about YOUR memories, not his. Sorry you had to experience them in the first place and that you still are.

Orange County is presently 62% white. Subtract 30 years of heavy migration and I'm pretty sure it was way whiter when ND was in high school.
