This time next week, Notre Dame's class of 2016 recruiting efforts will be in full swing. With the March 21st Junior Day set to serve as the unofficial start date to the recruiting season for the Irish, the operation will only pick up with scholarship offers, visits and commitments.

But before everything gets lost in the shuffle, it's time to address a certain group of prospects for the Irish.

Notre Dame - traditionally - has had success recruiting the relatives of current and former Irish athletes. The class of 2016 looks like it will be no different. The Fighting Irish have already made contact with at least six prospects that have direct ties to the school.

- Charlotte (N.C.) Ardrey Kell Rivals250 linebacker Julian Okwara is the brother of current Notre Dame defensive end Romeo Okwara.

- Rochester (N.Y.) Aquinas Institute three-star linebacker Jamir Jones is the brother of current Notre Dame nose guard Jarron Jones.

- New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin three-star tight end Irvin Smith is the son of former Notre Dame tight end Irvin Smith Sr., a first-round pick in the 1993 NFL Draft.

- Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek three-star offensive guard Chandler Tuitt is the cousin of ex-Irish defensive end Stephon Tuitt.

- Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star safety D.J. Morgan is the second cousin of former Notre Dame women's basketball star Skylar Diggins.

- And then there's Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy long snapper John Shannon, who is the grandson of Dan Shannon, an All-American end/linebacker at Notre Dame back in 1954.

It's a wide-ranging list that looks like an anomaly, but there have been instances before where Notre Dame has had an influx of relatives.

Back in 2012, when the program made its magical run to the BCS National Championship Game, there were three sets of brothers on the team: Mike and Jake Golic, Zack and Nick Martin, and Josh and George III Atkinson.

In 1990, it was Tony and Reggie Brooks who shared the same last name on the roster. Tony ran for 451 yards in a deep backfield, while Reggie played cornerback.

But the most notable set of brothers might have been Ross and Jim Browner from 1975-77. Ross finished fifth in Heisman voting during Notre Dame's 1977 championship season and Jim recovered a school single-season record six fumbles. In 1976, another Browner, freshman fullback Willard played regularly, before transferring. The 1977 national champs also had starting junior center Dave Huffman, while little brother Tim was a freshman reserve guard.

While it's unlikely that another duo or trio of brothers will emerge in the coming years (both Jarron Jones and Romero Okwara are seniors, which means they will graduate before the next class enrolls), the next wave of relatives is certainly possible.

Notre Dame has already offered Okwara and has invited both Jones and Shannon to campus for the Junior Day on March 21. Morgan is set to visit in April, while Tuitt and Smith are just now starting to get evaluated by the staff.

"It's funny," Jones said when asked about all the relatives being recruited. "Me and Jarron were just talking that the other day. He said when he and Romeo [Okwara] were in high school, he was a four-star and Romeo was a three-star. Now it's flipped the other way around. I'm a three-star and Julian is a four-star."

Rankings aside, Notre Dame has already positioned itself to land each one of the relatives because of one simple reason: The Irish coaching staff prides themselves on selling the Notre Dame "experience" and they have all seen it first hand. For someone like Okwara, that makes a difference.

"Notre Dame is the first school that really started talking to me," he said. "The coaches said they were going to offer a scholarship, and they did. So they stuck by their word, which means a lot."

Okwara is the relative most likely to join the program given his talents, but others like Jones, Morgan and Shannon could certainly enter the fold.

Regardless of which players the coaching staff decides to pursue this cycle, it's clear that before the recruiting rush begins next week, there is already a core group of prospects that know a thing or two about Notre Dame. And that's making the job for Irish head coach Brian Kelly and his staff, somewhat easy, before the dash to National Signing Day.

Also of interest, Tony Jones said that his job now is to recruit players to ND and he's going after Craig Watts, Dwayne Haskins, Rashaun Smith, and Malik Barrow. Thats quite the list.

Xavier looks nasty. I'd love to get him, has there been any interest on his end?

He was previously committed to KSU. Once offers started to come in from some big boys most notably Michigan, Oregon, and TCU he opened things back up over the weekend. Wiltfong believes there is some interest there but those other 3 schools have seemed to take the lead here for the short term. Ran a 4.55 40 at a recent combine.

I don't know... I'd think ND is far too liberal for a young Jesuit recruit, especially one from such a red state.

Here's the latest from TP:

The 2016 recruiting class is off to a running start and it could turn quickly into a gem. Much like the 2013 class, the Irish had a very successful Junior Day and left kids with a very good impression of what Notre Dame has to offer.

The Glue: 2016 Ohio offensive lineman, Tommy Kraemer, was the first commitment back in October and is now taking over as the class leader. Kraemer is not only has respect as a Top Ten player nationally, but has shown the ability to create relationships with other recruits. The five-star lineman worked Tony Jones Jr. hard at Junior Day and led to an eventual commitment from the Florida running back. I mean, what running back doesn’t want to run behind a 6-foot-5, 310-pounder?

The other good news for Irish fans is Kraemer has a good friendship with fellow 2016 Ohio offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg, who himself is one of the top prospects in the country. Eichenberg is your prototypical left tackle and has the athleticism to potentially turn into a high NFL draft pick. The four-star prospect is down to Notre Dame and Ohio State at this point and will visit both programs before making a decision shortly.

Early Returns: A lot was made of the loss of former recruiting coordinator Tony Alford when he flipped over to Ohio State. However, new recruiting coordinator Mike Elston has hit the ground running….hard. Elston has made quite a noticeable effort to identify kids in the 2017 class early, but also get the 2017 prospects on campus early. That being said, top prospects from the 2016 class have made an effort to make it to South Bend this spring and that hasn’t always been the case in past classes. Top 2016 players such as Damar Hamlin, Austin Mack, Auston Robertson, Dwayne Haskins, Matt Falcon, Elijah Holyfield, Donnie Corley, Michael Jordan, Khalid Kareem, Tylin Oden, Josh Hammond have all made it to Notre Dame this spring. California star Javon McKinley and Eichenberg will make trips to Notre Dame later this month.

Keep an Eye On: Jordan Fuller. The 2016 athlete is a freak of nature on the field and can play either receiver or safety. His best position in the long run might be safety, but he is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands. The Fuller family is already familiar with Notre Dame, as his brother Devin, almost chose the Irish. Devin went with UCLA and some sources close to the situation have stated that will not be a likely landing spot for the younger Fuller. The Irish have yet to get him to campus, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a summer visit set up at some point.

Quarterback: Dwayne Haskins sits at the top of the board of prospects Notre Dame has a chance with and he was on campus for Junior Day. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has taken trips to what seems like every major program in the country, but will be taking his a second round of visits to his top schools with his family. We feel that Notre Dame will be a spot that he will return to and be a likely finalist. Haskins plans on making his decision in May.

If Haskins chooses a school not named Notre Dame, the momentum could swing to Brandon Peters, Tylin Oden, Matt Fink or Zach Smith. Peters and Oden attended Junior Day and both enjoyed their time in South Bend. Oden has stated that if he does get an Irish offer, it would be very tough to beat. The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder and his family were extremely impressed with academic layout and simply the Notre Dame environment. Peters most likely has Michigan out in front, but he is taking his time with the process. Fink and Smith are most likely longshots at this point. Fink was offered by Notre Dame in March, but ideally wants to stay on the West Coast. USC recently offered him, so it would be hard to turn the Trojans and his other West Coast offers in Cal, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State. Smith is an extremely talented gun slinger from Texas, but he is currently committed to Baylor.

ISD Power Hour was 95% recruiting last night. As always, worth a listen. Christian was a guest on the show (although Mike did most of the talking. Sometimes he just rambles too much for my liking...but anyways). Lots of good discussion on position groups, names to watch, etc.

So I haven't had much time to keep up with the 2016 class yet and I'm sitting here now trying to look up who ND has offered at each position. I just got to thinking if there would be a way that would streamline updates on recruits at the same position. Would it be cool if we put together a master list for each position instead of a single list for all positions? I would be willing to work on something like that, although I'm not very tech savvy. Just a thought. I know guys don't want to see extra clutter on the board but it may be a way to focus the discussion - there just seems to be so many prospects covered in one thread that the updates just go to their player profile and not to the Master list - which rarely receives a full update.

So did not know where else to put this, but Jake Brown got called out by Tom Vanharren of ESPN Recruiting for basically plagiarizing info on Xavier Kelly and when he is visiting ND

Yesterday we offered 16' WR Kevin Stepherson from Jacksonville, FL. He doesn't have an extensive offer list at this time but I would bet that changes. For now he did put us in his top 2 with LSU but said he grew up a UF fan and they would jump into that group with an offer. In March he took home the WR MVP award from the RCS Camp in Orlando. He's a pretty dynamic prospect.

BIG #10 - Kevin Stepherson highlights

In Jake's defense, he explained to Vanharren what happened. Ryno's post is off-base that Jake plagiarized Tom's info. Xavier texted Jake directly that photo and Jake tweeted it. Tom received the same photo.

Demetris Robertson Five star ATH, committed to Bama, said at the RCS Camp in Charlotte that Stanford is #2 and he'll visit both Stanford and ND over the summer.

Also, player to watch is Darnell Ewell from Norfolk VA said that ND is his dream offer. VT is the family favorite, Clemson and OSU are also in the mix. He's a swing lineman. Some like him on OL and some on DL, he prefers DL. Physically very impressive prospect.

We continue to make Kyree Campbell's top group. Remember he has a very good relationship with Gilmore.

- Unsure if we'll pursue him with the way OL recruiting is going but he's solid/physically impressive and that's at least notable if we miss other places.

Ewell is a class of 2017 DT haha. Absolute stud and future top 150 player at the least.

Doing it off of rivals they had him listed at OG. Listened to video and changed. And yea he's a 2017 but I wasn't going to go to a separate thread for it.

How is he still a three star? His offer list is incredible.
