dang on 247 they stated avery sebastian would be more of a liability than a true freshamn Perry and that isn't saying a lot because Perry in stuff i have read has made it sound as if he is really struggling...PRAY NO INJURIES

Knew he probably wasn't going to have the same kind of impact Cody Riggs had as a fifth year transfer, but wasn't expecting him to struggle like this.

Side note: Man I really enjoyed having Riggs on the team in 2014

The offense has run like a well oiled machine nearly every game Zaire has been in? He's only played basically two and a half games. Kizer is the more experienced QB now. I fully expect him to be the starter.

I thought that was interesting as well. I agree with the big picture, the offense should do well regardless of starter but how they got there was a little different than myself.

it sounds from the paid sites that he hasn't played at the level or being given the praise that he was given in spring...obviously hammy will hurt that but i forget where i read or heard that this has hurt him

To start the season on the road against Texas, a heavy dose of running plays led by Zaire/Folston/Adams/Dex will quiet the crowd in a hurry. Throw in some play action...wow.

I think Malik starts too, and that's heavily based on personal bias. FWIW, Driskel said on his 'what are we seeing' podcast that aired yesterday, that this QB competition is legitimate and Ziare could be starting for Texas and it wouldn't surprise him based on the practice he's seen.

USC was a pretty darn big game. SC might've been coming into the game 3-2 but rivalry games are always diificult and they have great athletes. And Georgia Tech.

Exactly. And while the sports God's apparently discount everything you do in a loss--and so he gets no credit where the defense loses a game--Kizer was absolutely killer in that last drive at Stanford. He was unstoppable.

He was also pretty dang good in the 4th quarter against Clemson (remember the Brown fumble on the 1?).

And Kizer was spotty but effective against a decent LSU team and a mediocre UVA team. He played lights out against Texas, but when you watch it Texas' defense was terrible.

I no longer care who gets the job--they are both effective and good leaders, but I think there is a substantial likelihood that Zaire is not as good a passer as we remember/are hoping.

We didn't beat Clemson but he balled out that game. He also balled out against most other teams.

Non-playoff/BCS type bowl games are so meaningless in terms of predicting future play. They are about as meaningful as the Spring Game to me, so not at all.

Injury is a big factor. Can't just ignore it.

Kizer played almost a full season of high level football. Zaire has played 1.5 games in the last 18 months or so and while I love his talent and the guy personally, I don't think you start him when you know what you have with Kizer. Plus KIZER IS YOUNGER which is huge.

Ut oh. I just learned from Lucky yesterday that injuries have NOTHING to do with who they go with. It's a fact.

Both are excellent. Offense will be just fine regardless...as long as Kelly runs the damn ball. Now defense better step up. Our talent is more that adequate at all 3 levels. BVG has got to get it done or get out. His first 2 seasons have been a despicable dumpster fire!

Only 2 humans that concern me in 16 are BVG and Max Redfield.

If it was an ACL or other knee injury then I would agree in that it would be a big factor. After watching several practice videos and reading reports, Zaire seems to be back and better than ever. I have never seen another Notre Dame quarterback do what Zaire did to Texas and he seems to be capable to do it again.

I'm not saying Kizer shouldn't be starting but I don't think Zaire's ankle is a fair reason to say Kizer should start.

Yeah, you have to discount a little for the fact that everyone gets scored on. The reason we almost won the Stanford game is because we drove it down their defense's throat in the 4th quarter. Clemson vs. Alabama had about 90 some points.

But I agree. The incompetence in the middle of the field at the second and third levels was as aggravating as it gets.

There are very few times where I feel like I could out coach a college defensive coordinator, but that last series against Stanford (granted 15 yards came on a face mask) were awful.

Zaire is still a huge question mark when it comes to making plays in the passing game. Last year he had one good game, Texas. Plus one borderline terrible game, Virginia. LSU he was efficient but very few plays downfield. !2 completed passes for 80 yards, is not a number you want to repeat.

same thing for spring game( i know not to look too much into it) but had only a few completed but had about same yardage or more than kizer (by memory)...big play but we need consitency...i would like to play the hot hand if possible but also sucks having each one looking over shoulder.

Haha, you are truly hilarious. Completely taken out of context. Your statement was that they won't start McGovern because he's injury prone. If a HC didn't play the best possible player, because he might get hurt, then he should be fired, end of story. Every single player that steps on the field is at risk of injury, you cross that bridge when it occurs. You play the best guys and if they get hurt, its next man in.

Now if a player isn't 100% healthy, then its a different story. But that wasn't what you stated or we discussed.

Yup. It actually amazes me that people don't want the younger QB who came in cold off the bench against Virginia and threw an absolute DIME in the final seconds to win the game. He then went on to win 8 more games playing excellent football. He has more actual game experience than the older QB and his ceiling is higher, too.
