Mike Denbrock is still tutoring Mike Sanford on the nuances of the offense, Kelly says. No decision yet on who will call plays in 2015.— Andrew Owens (@BGI_AndrewOwens) April 11, 2015

Again I have to ask why Sanford took the job. Was he a pretend O coordinator for boise too? I have no desire to see Denbrock or Kelly call plays.

He's still a young coach so them tutoring him really isn't a big deal. I would venture to guess though that the tutoring is more along the lines of them teaching him Kelly's offense just like they do with a new player.

Judging by the practice videos, we won't lose a game. Just like every year.

A far as the QB battle, Golson looks great. But when the lights come on and the pressure comes, can he still look great. I'd love them both here, but if he isn't locked in to the starter when transfer time hits, he's gotta go. If his academics are in order and there is somewhere he is more sure of the starting job, he's gotta take it. He has one year left to get himself to the NFL. He needs to be at the one place that gives him the best chance. That may not be ND.

The king has returned. Nolan's sweater game on point as usual.

Pretty effin' funny, bro!

If my nipples weren't erect at the beginning of this video, they were at the end.

  • It was cool to see Nolan and Collinsworth together on this video. They worked well together.
  • The video quality seemed far better than I have ever seen : shots; angles; resolution; pertinent video, particularly to the narrative; "A+" for the first time ever!
  • I know the practice was a longer one with live scrimmaging, but the material presented showed more from more players than we get in a typical spring practice video.
  • Collinsworth may have made a gaffe or two earlier in the spring, but he is becoming a very polished, very well spoken commentator, quickly. I put him ahead of about 50% + of those the get paid on Saturday or Sunday, already!

I hate this post because I hope Golson doesn't view it the same way.

Agreed, I like Collinsworth. I think he's doing a fine job and this last video was finally a quality production. Something to get excited about.

Is that Charlie Weis in the background standing along the sidelines at the 5:06 mark?

Who was the db that had the interception, dragging his toes to remain in bounds, on the last play shown?

Loved the big TD by CJ!

The interception by Golson was cringeworthy. Corner route into double coverage, basically said "Here Mathias! You take it!".

there certainly is a resemblance. might be a little to skinny.

yep kid is pushing for the #2 corner spot.

Exciting stuff. While I don't see him displacing KVR or Luke, it's nice to see someone balling out and pushing everyone else. We need a few CBs to separate themselves this year from the T2 guys. I do think he's certainly the guy to take over for KVR next year.

Was that Corey Holmes with the awesome catch in the deep middle when Golson stepped up and threw from his own endzone?

"Priorities?":

Defense--- we are loaded at DLine. Good foundation to have. Each of the other levels has its questions. Linebacker--- can both Jarrett and Joe join Jaylon to make a 3-J superhero Jack-You-Up Hit Squad? If Jarrett's healthy and Joe can move, then yes. If some of that doesn't go, we have Nyles and Greer and James to find a spot. And when we go nickel, only two of the Js are needed with our ace nickel Matthias. You would think that with all that we'd strike gold. Corner: assuming KVR is KVR, he and Luke [my candidate last year for most underrated AA-type DPlayer we fielded] should be one of the best pairs in the country --- better perhaps than Cole and Cody last year even when Cody was healthy. They have to stay out of injury. Safety: Max seems to be getting there [Bless The Lord!], and I'm guessing that Sebastian will eliminate concerns that everyone has with Elijah. Bottomline: we are LOADED on defense given any reasonable breaks at all. I look at what BVG has to work with and smile.

Offense--- we are loaded at OLine. Stanley=NFL; NMart= tough strong savvy veteran; Elmer and McGlinchey= Kelly says they'll "knock you out"; the Nelson/Bars battle= luxurious talent abundance. Plus a forklift back-up center in Mustifer, and a talented back-up tackle in Bivin [plus McGovern whom Kelly often mentions.] TE: WAS a concern for me, but Smythe sounds like he's very good --- so what if we have one highclass "ordinary solid player" out there? WR: Lord protect the opposition! Adding Brent and a fully-functional Hunter to Fuller, Robinson, Brown, Prosise, Carlisle --- my goodness. It's like a basketball team who needs to play with several BBalls to let everyone show what they've got. RB: Tarean gives us better-than-most-anyone just on his own. I'm still waiting on Greg, but CJs ability to get it quickly solves any issue we have here. So, what's left {sarcasm noted}? What's left IS our only real issue, assuming the linebackers get straightened out. LORD GIVE US A BREAK AT QB PLEASE!! I don't need more "refining in the fires of life" on this particular issue. I'll take a little more adversity elsewhere instead.

Special teams: Please young Mr. Yoon, be able to kick field goals. Please Mr. Bryant and/or Mr. Prosise, be able to field punts without dropping them. We'll get all the rest of that figured out.

Priorities? Just Everett and Malik, with a dash of Grace and Yoon tossed in [maybe a little Sebastian]. With a reversal of luck from last season, this team could be a terror.

Every single year, at least one group exceeds expectations, and at least one group falls short. Last year, IMO, the WRs exceeded expectations, and the OL fell short.

This year, spring practices hints that the WRs may underachieve. Tons of talent, but their is a lot of sloppiness and a lack of leadership. I am thinking safety--between the two starters, the transfer, Tranquil, and eventually Butler--will overachieve.

This year, it looks like the WRs are the current leaders for underachieving. I am thinking safety--between the two starters, the transfer, Tranquil, and eventually Butler--will over achieve.

I think the safeties over-achieving will have a lot to do with Redfield growing into the ball hawk that he has the potential to be and picking some passes off. Insane athleticism, good hands and ball skills, and two years of building experience and a knowledge base to hang his hat on. He should make quite a few big time plays this season in terms of creating takeaways.

So . . .

Where is the problem?

He shrugs his shoulders, the loudest response, echoes from off in the shadows.
