I'm not feeling well after the Jarron Jones injury, he was our best run stopper IMO. But I'm holding out opinion until I see our left handed, elite running QB run behind that left wall that will be Nelson and Stanley. NDacccuontant kind of touched no this, but athletes are one thing; if we can own the LOS, doesn't always help when you're skilled on the perimeter. (Although OSU certainly has athletes in the lines, too).

hard to know how capable JJ might have been after recovering from Lisfranc surgery, like he missed the whole spring and summer and probably couldnt do any lifting

To the whole OSU thing... their whole front 7 is basically "bigger and more athletic" than ours. Jaylon Smith is one guy, and Darron Lee isn't far off from Smith.

I think our secondaries are pretty much a wash. I think we've clearly got superior NFL prospects on the OL, and I like our WR corps/TEs better in the big picture. Ezekiel Elliot wins at RB, and I don't think you compare QBs on "athletics"... but if you did, Miller-turned-H-back is more athletic than Malik and Cardale Jones is bigger, and Barrett is a better passer. But Malik is a better runner than Barrett, a better passer than Miller (probably), and I don't know how his running/throwing traits really stack up with Cardale Jones.

So OSU clearly wins at 3 positions (RB, DL, LB)... then wins by common sense at QB given what they've proven... and washes at all the other ones except OL and maybe pass catchers.

The only thing wrong about what's being written here about what Kanell said is the phrasing. We're clearly in the "same universe" as OSU, because we have 4 or 5 guys that are better at their position than anyone OSU has (Stanley, Smith, KVR, etc.).

I'm not sure about your definition of "brutal". 3 of our first 4 opponents had losing records last year.

Yeah our FPI chance of winning each of our first seven games is 77%, 83%, 76%, 98%, 56%, 96%, 61%. We're an underdog a total of zero times and only two of them are particularly close. And this if from SECSPN.

A lot of people like to talk up how hard our schedule is but this ain't the year to do it. We only have the 61st toughest schedule in the nation according to Phil Steele.

There is not a true "break" in the first seven games aside from UMass.

Notre Dame is favored and should win them all, but it's not going to be as simple as FPI makes it seem.

Texas is a Charlie Strong defense. They are thin and bad on offense, but this is not a breeze-through game either (though I hope it turns out to be).

Virginia scares me because it's a classic mediocre opponent that's got a few 5-star guys here and there that could put it together and get up for their game against mighty ND.

Georgia Tech is Navy on steroids. That's frightening.

UMass is a glorified bye, which is nice.

Clemson is a good football team, but a bit young and unproven in places. They could be very good, or they could still be struggling to get their feet under them in week 5. However, the timing of this game is where the biggest difficulty comes from.

Navy is Navy, AND you have to play them after a night game at Clemson? We should beat them down like we did in '11 and '12, but the memories of '13 and '14 haunt me. Plus, it's the perfect "trap" setup between Clemson and USC.

USC after Navy? The most difficult game on the schedule just got even more difficult lol.

Impossible to manage? No. But I stand by my "brutal" descriptor, especially when considering the Clemson-Navy-USC stretch of games.

No to mention the last game of the season will be arguably the most physical as we head to Palo Alto the play Stanford. Stanford won't be world beaters but they are a tough physical game and we need to make it to game 12 healthy and ready to go. Also, traveling that far can have somewhat of an impact after a long season

i dont think stanford will be a force this year. ND will have more to play for come the end of the season than the Trees will

Texas will be a bad bad bad team... They are hoping at best to be 7-5 by end of the year... If you think this team is as talented as we all say... Texas and Virginia are both blowouts.... Then true test comes again G Tech and see if we learned how to stop the option... If we can, then we should be able to turn that on Navy which boils our season down to four games... Tech, Clem, USC, and Stanford

You watch Stanford play much? They'll fight tooth and nail regardless of what they are playing for. Like I said, they don have to be world beaters for it to be a tough game. Heck, last year we were more talented than them, at home, healthy, and it was still a dog fight. That was less than a year ago. We get better maybe they get a little worse but how would one come to the conclusion it'll be easy after what they've shown for the last 5-7 years.

Talk about not playing for much, you see what they did to Maryland in their "doesn't matter" bowl game. That was a beat down

Agree on UVA. Get ready for that. All signs point to a 4th Quarter game for no good reason.

This completely. Everyone thought Stanford was crappy last year. And they ended the season going to #8 UCLA and winning 31-10....when UCLA was in 1st place in the PAC-12 South and still had a shot at making the Playoffs. That game is going to be a bitch like always...we also haven't beaten them on the road since 2007.

Pitt on the road won't be a cakewalk either. Maybe they'll eject Jaylon for playing football this year.

You can't take the fact that we always screw the pooch against a team we SHOULD crush as evidence of a tough schedule. We shat the bed against Northwestern last year but that doesn't mean Northwestern is indicative of a "brutal stretch."

Never said it is a brutal stretch. I guarantee that will be a game where u are going to want to just throw your fucking controller at the tv. I'm preparing myself now.

Not to let facts get in the way of a good argument, but going off of rivals depth charts, ND's Olineman and Dlineman are bigger at almost every position. Thats assuming Bosa and Rochell are strongside and Okwara and Miller are Weakside which is most likely the case.

OSU is more athletic along the Dline, but we have better size at most of the positions of which that is a significant factor.

Isn't that the default stance for any Notre Dame fan? One arm cocked with the remote aimed at the plasma. Last year, there was a total of two games when I didn't come very close to committing random acts of violence against my home and furniture.

This is always a risk in my house.

Hateful violence in cases of poor play; celebratory violence in cases of good play.

Very rarely does ND have an "indifferent" game where things go exactly as they should lol.

Don't forget the holy-shit-we-beat-Florida-State violence immediately followed by what-the-fuck-there's-a-flag!?!?!? violence. That's a rare form but really a treasure for wives and girlfriends everywhere.

Last year, what.... Rice? That's about it.

Ever since I cut the cord on cable and watched ND games through a receiver, it's been one disappointment after another. It's a curse. I am taking responsibility for the curse that lost the games for our team. I have a scheduled install for Sunday and I'm getting Showtime thrown in for free.

The curse is broken people!!! Oh, there is a god and he has a plan for us after all.

Haha. I normally don't get fired up watching but that 2013 game at PITT was the most frustrating game ever.

But that was the equation. It's not either/or.

Rochelle might be a smidge bigger than Bosa... he's not nearly as athletic. Sheldon Day is incredibly quick, but he's not as big as he's listed. Jones is out... Tillery is a monster, but he's not proven or that effective yet. Okwara is neither big nor particularly explosive/effective. That's 4 for 4 in favor of OSU. At LB, they win 2 of 3.

So 6 out of 7 guys in the front 7 OSU has the better "bigger + athletic" players.

ND is unbeaten whenever im on American soil, this is going back to 2009 folks. I kept the streak alive by being on American soil even when ND played in Dublin back in 2012 :D I'm kind of a big deal.

Don't forget the holy-shit-we-beat-Florida-State violence immediately followed by what-the-fuck-there's-a-flag!?!?!? violence. That's a rare form but really a treasure for wives and girlfriends everywhere.

In 2011, after the brutal ending against scUM where Gary Gray forgot how to use his eyes to locate and high-point a football, EVEN JUST TO PUT A HAND UP AND SWAT AT THE AIR, WHICH HE DIDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT, I didn't talk to my girlfriend for a whole week. I left my friend's watch party without speaking to anyone, ripped off my jersey and thought about setting a lighter to it (I am shamed), and ignored my girlfriend of four years for the next week, even though she had nothing to do with it (I ignored everyone in life for the week, really, but I was basically living with her at the time, so she got the brunt of my silent frustration).*

Last year, the flag against FSU was a turning point for me. I didn't get mad. I didn't throw or kick anything... I just kind of went into a resigned depression, where you really learn that if you don't laugh, you'll cry.

Last year, what.... Rice? That's about it.

Even Rice was a "break sh!t" type of game for me, because I'm always jacked up for game one, and it looked like Golson had the Heisman on lock after three quarters of play in the first game of the season.

*My then girlfriend of four years is now my fiance. When she got through Post-scUM-Debacle-2011 and still loved me, I realized how lucky I was.
