Today's practice is open to the media right? Do they forbid live tweets?

Send it my way. I don't know why, but I feel more confident in this than I have in any recent ones.

I am almost there. I think our offense could be downright unstoppable. I however have significant reservations about our defense to stay healthy AND run BVGs defense.

FWIW, I feel really good about this team. I think this team has the potential to be very good but very few of these guys have contributed on a very successful college football team. Do I think they will? YES! But again, I would like to look back at a 10 win regular season and be happy with it. What we seem to building towards is NCG or bust and I just don't agree with that.

The offseason is a time to feel good about your team. Let us get over excited. We don't need the reality check police. The actual season does that for us already.

Considering this team hasn't taken the field and we're comparing them the best ND football team of the last 2 decades seems a little unrealistic at this time. Could they be? Absolutely, but we've seen 7 practices.

haha, thanks for saying it out loud - there are a whole bunch of others thinking the same thoughts, but as NDinLA said it's impossible to have a rational or realistic conversation about the upcoming season when everyone's watching highlight clips.

That said, I am excited about this team b/c of the OL and DL. Much of the team's incredible depth has vanished unfortunately, which is never a good thing. At key offensive skill positions we have 1 player at QB, 1 player at RB (don't talk to me about Prosise until he plays in a game, please), 1 legit WR (again, please hold the Chris Brown breakout season talk - he still has the same hands, right?), and a whole bunch of guys who might be really good or might not be.

I was excited by Zaire until I got a report from someone I really trust who said his accuracy is going to be a very serious issue. I still like the kid more than anyone else on the team and it's fantastic that everyone on the team seems ready to go to war w him - but that report scares me a bit, and makes me even more concerned about EG's departure.

Still, a strong OL and DL makes for a potentially very good team - so I remain hopeful.

And thanks to Lucci for giving me the chance to get it off my chest. I'll log off before the assault comes, back to your regularly scheduled predictions of the ND's greatest team ever...

You're right, ND only returns 17 starters, why would anyone think they could be significantly better than last year?

Everyone knows that inordinate rash of injuries will be back, right? Even if it does, the backups now have experience. OJT is NOT required this year.

Everyone know that ND's QB is a turnover machine. Oh, that's right, he transferred. ND will still be ranked #83 in Turnover Margin, right? Besides the high volume of turnovers last year, ND didn't do well with creating turnovers last year, did they? What with the Frozen Five and the rash of season ending injuries. Oh yeah, and a First Year Coordinator who found you can't always substitute half a dozen players on every down should have learned a lesson, no?

Then there's the addition of an Offensive Coordinator but he has no track record of success anywhere, right? He'll just be another unimaginative Kelly sinecure, right?

How dare a fan try to compare this deeply talented team with the 12-0 team which was PHYSICALLY and MENTALLY embarassed by Alabama.

Even in '12 ND struggled in the Red Zone. Now we have a 225 lb QB that can run like a deer and hit like an elk in heat. We have triple TE sets which are a threat to score receiving wise or pave the way for a run along with the finest and deepest OLine since Taylor graduated.

No, there's no Golden Tate Biletnikoff Winner on the receiving corps. But we have the deepest, tallest receiving corps I remember where half a dozen guys are threats, not just one. But why should that matter, right?

You guys whined ad nauseum last year at one of the Top 3 All-TIme ND kickers because of holder issues. It was easier to throw beer cans at the TV and blame the steady guy that won games. Well he's gone replaced by the #1 kicker in America., PS #1. OMG could that be another improvement.

Yes, there's only been 7 practices but those talented and deep WRs are facing one of the best backfields in the country - every day and beating them. But the defense always wins early in camp, right? Only USC on our schedule has as good a secondary.

As Jon Wilner noted in his article, Zaire doesn't have to be spectacular. He doesn't have to break any records, if he doesn't hurt the team, ND wins.

I haven't seen any of the 7 practices. and don't need to, to grasp that Kelly's team is upgraded on the field and in the coaching box. This is the deepest team overall that he's had at ND.

How many games they win depends upon how well they execute and how well the other guys. I've been watching ND football since Leahy walked the sidelines. He was truly the great one but his lads lost games they should have one as did Rock's, Ara's and Lou's.

I believe this team has a realistic shot to win them all but as usual I'll take them one game at a time.

GO IRISH!

Man, I used to argue against these types of things all the time. People just don't get it. I remember being vilified before the 2013 season when a member posted that ND had 8 elite defensive linemen (OLB's like Shembo were included), and I disagreed. Guys like Ishaq, Springman, and Schwenke were all considered "elite" by many on this board, and I was a jerk for arguing vehemently against that line of thinking lol. Another time a member got PISSED at me bc I disagreed that ND was the clear leader for a kid who ended up at Auburn (as I predicted). I mean, everywhere there were signs that ND wasn't even in his top 5 really, but because he told a ND reporter that he really liked ND, that meant we were his leader lol. There's all kinds of examples.

I've learned to let it roll now (except for NDSean...but he's a special case). It's great to be positive, but the problem is when you argue against it in the manner that I do (blunt...and not the NDOM 'blunt'), people get extremely defensive and personal, and the actual topic gets lost in the debate. Better for me just to let the overly exuberant be overly exuberant.

Thanks, Butthole......I used to have some really great pissing matches with people's positivity, and you had to happen along. Why don't you go back to your Southern California beaches????

I'll tell you what Lucky. I am just about tired of you making up a whole new context and meaning for what I said. Especially when it is not at all grounded in reality. Are you lying? Or are you incapable of understanding. I am really beginning to worry about you!

I NEVER COMPARED THIS TEAM TO THE '12 TEAM.

The statement you made is either fantasy, or total bull shit; I don't care which.

What I was talking about was the leadership, the player leadership. LEADERSHIP ONLY! And particularly the healthy connection between the player leadership and the coaching staff.

Don't assume, or comment on my thoughts or posts unless you are going to ask questions enough to make sure you understand. In your attempt to discredit me (that is the only motivation I can conclude guides your words and actions), you have made yourself look stupid. Cut it out. Do you think anyone of average intelligence doesn't see this? It is a waste of time and an aggravation that I don't need.

This is the third time in as many weeks. Find someone else to piss on (or defecate on), or stop the flow entirely, (Now there is an idea!). The next time is war.

More mouth-breathers I assume?

Or just assholes that cannot read at a sixth grade level, because that is what I try to limit myself to with the writing in my posts.

One more thing, Autry, with you, which one is it?

Yes, you compared the "leadership" of this team to the 2012 team, thats exactly what your entire post was about.

Even as simple as that sounds, blows me away. They led us to a NCG game and this team has led us to 7 practices. Lets let them do it before we take Manti's crown and hand it to them.

The fact that you believe my post elicits this response is beyond me and very telling. Nobody insulted you directly, I said its unrealistic.
