Possibly the only one left we get.

I would disagree with the negative outlook of this post. Yes, we missed on a couple guys on the list, but there are still plenty of guys to be looking forward to. ESB is still a possibility. We will get a shot with Soso. Reid is still high on us. So we miss on Hilliard and Baker - there is still Bilal and Coney out there. Newsome is maybe a longshot but we get a look. Wallace could take the WDE spot. No need to panic just because we missed on Hilliard and got screwed at the QB position for this class. Staff is gonna do work and get some players

It's really the only solution at this point.

I have long believed (for a few years now) that winning must come before the elite talent... hard to do but it's possible... that's what is so frustrating about our scheduling... it's hard to see the winning (consistent ten plsu win seasons) without numerous five stars and with our grind of a schedule.

It’s just simply not a winning formula.

I wasn't being negative at all. I was being realistic. I think Soso does have a shot but i don't think it is as high as Boykin. I would love to have Reid on the team but with the DB's we have taken could possibly discourage him from coming here.

ESB,Coney,Bilal we are in the think of it with them. I could see us end up with just Coney,Bilal.

I'll put this here. Interesting post from an II board member and response from TJ.

But this is the first time I can recall, when quality players may not be offered fifth years due to a scholarship crunch. In my opinion, the following guys will all have to play well in order to earn that 5th season:
Amir Carlisle
Tony Springmann (he's going to have to show he's finally healthy)
Ben Councell
Matthias Farley
Eilar Hardy
IMO, after a solid senior year Daniels will leave for the NFL opening up another spot from the chart.

By chance, if staff or TJ read this, do you get a feeling the potential 5th years for 2015 realize the pressure is on to earn that spot for next season?

TJ,

Yes.

Believe it or not, there's a conceivable scenario where this class could push against the 25-man number. Conceivable.

That is so weird, everyone thought this class would be lucky to reach 18 commits come NSD.

Anyone get a feeling from these cryptic posts from tj and others here that several other current players will be gone soon?

I am combing the roster and wonder who's next. I see Diaco gritting several of our fifths. I see a couple more od our front 7 saying sayonara...

We absolutely need to tear it up this fall, replace the transfers and build a roster for the 4-3!

I don't think that's true at all. Like many others, I thought that 18 was a pie in the sky near impossibility. With us always coming up under 85, attrition, some admissions bullshit, etcetera; I always thought 22-23 to be more likely.

Now something just about everyone didn't expect was we'd have a full boat (25).

I don't think its cryptic at all. Pretty straight forward. He answers the question of are these players playing for 5th years and his answer is YES. This is something he's detailed before and we've been talking about for awhile.

Yeah that was a poor choice of words...I guess I meant to say I get a feeling we will lose a few more players sooner than later, and the staff is aware and loading up...

For fans its a win-win. Either these players step up and bring the collective competitiveness of the team up or we bring in new blood. Due to it being a new defensive scheme and coach I'd side with the latter being the most likely outcome. Either way this is a conversation that we'll be having throughout the season.

No one can tell me they haven't been dissapointed with recruiting so far n

It has been beyond my wildest expectations.

We got the o-linemen.

We got DT's with a couple more in the wings.

We have an incredible linebacker class shaping up.

We have great DB's; and I think most were incredibly undervalued.

We have some real speed this year.

We have a shot at an outstanding running back class.

And we have avoided some real douche nozzles.

We have the number 8 class, currently.

One surprise and it is off the chart.

You sound like that Yankee guy lol.

I love the class! Disappointed with a top ten class? Hardly. It's July for Pete's sake. If Everett gets us to 10 or 11 wins maybe a guy like Mekhi Brown jumps on, or Stidham. 12-0 equals Greg Bryant, Tarean Folston, and Max Redfield. Just saying...

I definitely disagree with you there. Reid shouldn't be discouraged by the DB's we have taken. Sure they are good, but of the 5 taken, only 2 will be Corners and I think he's more game ready than Coleman and on par with Crawford, so I don't think he or Ross will be lured away because of the depth, as they should be the frontmen of the DB class.

I don't think Soso is as high on ND than Boykin is, but that's mainly because Boykin is pretty much a ND lock at this point. He makes his decision in 30 minutes and we all pretty much know where he'll end up choosing.

Bilal is pretty much a lock as well at this point, now that Hilliard is off the board. He is the main target at LB for the staff now, along with Coney. Coney might be a tougher task to lure him away from FL, but he really loves the campus, so I like our chances in that regard. ESB is probably a long-shot now that Waller committed to Oregon. I don't see him leaving the west coast.

We we're considered a favorite of ESB before ND at any interest in Waller, nothing changed when we started recruiting Waller and I don't think anything changes now that Waller is goingn to Oregon.

My take on THE FIRST HALF of this cycle:

Recruiting has continued to speed up. It's July and we are sweating things not talked about at this time even 5 years ago. There's an eternity left in this cycle. We've added countless good players to classes well after January whose names weren't on the radar. Calm down.

That being said, I can't continue to hear the same "high ceiling" bullshit with nearly every recruit pulled in. He's a 3* guy but has a high ceiling. Not all 3* recruits have high ceilings. Do some? Yes, I loved our front seven class last year and it was littered with 3* guys.

If numbers continue to fall this way and we end up with 8-10 more spots, I'd like to see a few things happen. All banking on a 10 win season of course, which a believe is doable and a must.

We need an elite running back. Nothing against the kid we just picked up but a torn ACL of that magnitude ain't no joke. We may never be the same. Striking out last year (thanks Hood) left us needing two this year. I would've loved Tyson and an elite back in an ideal situation. Now, with who we've picked up, an elite back is a must. Soso would be my first headliner.

Elite RB: Soso or Patrick

At least two more bodies on the DL. Give me one elite DE and another SDE/DT prospect.

DL: Gallimore, Bryant, Gustin, Greene

Hilliard hurts. Period. Save the Bilal is equally as good garbage. Hes not. Bilal is a solid prospect with very good speed at his position. We need to see what he does with some weight on him. Hes SKINNY.

LB: Bilal and Coney, Wallace

Another explosive WR. Not another possession receiver, rather a take a 5 yarder to the house guy.

WR: Merritt or Newsome

With what I'm looking at in this years class in the secondary, I'm just not impressed. I really like Crawford and White. Really like the kid from TX, but Fertitta and Coleman just aren't doing it for me. Need one more playmaker back there.

DB: Reid or Ross

Just my thoughts guys. Thanks

Love your posts and almost always agree, but feel you are missing the boat on Coleman. Kid is an intense shutdown cb IMHO .

Thank you.

I certainly like Coleman more than Fertitta. Yes I understand they play different positions. Coleman is a fluid athlete. I'd like to see him break a little better. I feel like he diagnosis plays quickly but then hesitates. Maybe once he is solely on defense, that will come. I like aggressive and fast corners. Maybe I am missing that here and I'm off.
