Some of those catches he's made in practice are unreal. Thats the type of stuff very few WR's can make let alone TE's.

Agreed and he's a big bodied guy with that kind of speed, leaping, tracking ability. I really hope he has some stats at the end of Texas to keep him motivated because he's an unreal talent.

I really really love the depth at tight end. I feel like that's one of our strongest recruiting areas, but we've typically had a featured guy with his backup as the heir apparent. I'm pumped for the different formations we can show defenses, with the option to run or pass out of any of them. I'm rewatching the Music City Bowl and I'm really pumped about this offense.

Two surprises for me:

1. Bonner beating out Blankenship
2. Coleman beating out Watkins

for me too.
I hope that says more good about Bonner and Coleman, then bad about Blankenship and Watkins.

actually on Blankenship it was noted that he had a relatively good camp and put on some good weight

I think he'll be fine (as Watkins will be). Just needs more time, experience, and conditioning.

So refreshing to see zero names locking down multiple back up roles. How often in the past did we see one guy named as the back up for half the O-line or some other position.

true dat

love the depth that we are starting to create. wish we'd done better in a few places like safety, but overall we are a lot better off than in years past. OL, WR, TE, LB are all incredibly deep IMO.

Just a guess, but I suspect they have their sixth man in mind, and they'd do some shifting around to get him in the lineup. Bars may be that guy. Just a guess.

Just noticed that Montelus and Hoge aren't in the two deep. I'm not surprised Hoge is missing but a little surprised Montelus was beat out by McGovern.

Yep, if we can overrecruit a few positions it'd be: SS, FS, DE and RB

I believe that Coach is being completely honest with us throughout the line-up here. The starters are either the guys long stated to be starters or they are guys who are still honestly too close to say the competition is completed. The "and's" are also incentive to those guys, whether it's starter or back-up.

On the back-up OLine: this also looks pretty much expected. Bars was in left guard competition with Nelson all camp, and is trained to be a guard this season --- next year might well be different. Mustipher and Hoge were said to be even not long ago, with Hoge being a frosh he then redshirts despite his advanced skills and physicality. Bivin has always been behind Stanley. That leaves just the right side. The "surprise" is Harrell, who apparently has grown into a back-up competency. AND as a tackle, as he was playing center and guard last season. Montelus is no tackle, so it's RG or nothing. McGovern has always been praised more than he has by the staff's public comments. I have my doubts if he ever sees the field as he seems to be an old-style behemoth guard bulldozer and not a lot else. This doesn't fit Kelly's spread.

Weird that Blankership couldn't hold off Bonner, but it's a good sign. Blankership got bigger, and Bonner being ahead of him means we have another at least Blankership-esq lineman.
