"may require a little patience... "

That's probably going to be a problem, let's be real here. Lol.

But really, if there are fans that get upset about "growing pains" than that's pretty sad, because clearly we needed a switch at defense. This defense was becoming stagnant and lacked an overall identity.

It's time for a change, and it's time for a leader to step up.

Agree to a point. but the only two references I have for BVG and his defense in college is when he was at Georgia years ago and his recent stop at Auburn. At Georgia it took the defense about half the year to "figure it out." But when they did, they had one of the top defenses in the country. It's been a pretty good while ago so I am confident BVG has adjusted to the times. I discount his stint at Auburn as the team had pretty much laid down on Chizik and quit for lack of a better word.

With the Irish offense expected to be good, hopefully it will buy him enough time on the defensive side to get everything clicking. Just wouldn't want to see him vilified early on if the defense isn't quite up to par.

“He got to tell me where I fit in the defense and what they’re looking for,” Barajas explained. “They’re changing to a 4-3, and they see me fitting as a Sam or Will, an outside guy, not the big strong middle guy. I talked some X’s and O’s as far as the defenses they run and the calls. It was cool. It was the first time I got to be in a college meeting room and hear the terminology.”

i know this is really nothing new, but just more and more evidence

There is a practice today but the only video will come from UND.com as they are the only one that has access.

I pray to God in Heaven Under Armour designs a low profile visor that's worth a sht. Who designs this garbage and approves its distribution?

This guy gets it.

Seriously. I have just skimmed this thread to see if there is any actually news from the practices because I have no interest in the other debating. So far there is EG throwing fastballs faster than Tommy, some number changes, and an undisclosed injury (disclosed if you know the right people :stickoutt. I find the exercises in speculation on 4-3/3-4 and judging whether or not we are going to be spread or speed option or whatever based off 2 3-minute videos very useless. All the debating with each other is like banging your head against the wall. It's useless and only leads to a headache.

So once again... fuck Michigan.

If anyone wants to hook a brother up with a PM... you know where to find me.

No info, but I bet it's either a really minor injury, or someone that won't really play this year, or both... I feel like it'd be on twitter by now if it was significant.

Thanks for the updates, I'll just refresh UND every 30 secs until the practice video is posted. I'm hungry for some film.

Nice little cameo of ZMart and Reesus watching practice in the beginning of that video.

3 total solos tackles in 2 seasons, one racked by injuries? We already have that production on the roster...his name is Justin Utopo. Or Chase Hounshell.

We (not you and I, I mean the site) had this conversation at the beginning of last season, and my point still stands. Schutt isn't a miss until he actually does something. There is a reason ND, Michigan, and Wisconsin all declined to accept his commitment (I know for a fact that ND passed because they questioned his body and his desire to get in top shape). Meyer, being the star chaser that he is, jumped on it. So far (and he still has 2 years to shut me up), the ND and the other schools have been proven correct.

So for me, having Schutt on the roster is the same as having Hounshell and other unproven guys on the roster. And we have plenty of talented unproven guys on the roster already.

Right, I'm not necessarily wanting to get into the weeds here -- I just said he'd be "nice to have", which I think we can all agree on. Particularly since we're (a) losing our 2 best run-stopping DL's, (b) going to a 4-3, (c) don't really have many talented 300 pounders and (d) have the room.

Agreed, because, as you mentioned, we have the room. When we turned down Schutt, I posted in his thread at the time that I was ok with the decision as long as we didn't hear some off-season story about a walk-on earning a scholarship because we had an open one. Every year since Schutt signed, we've been below 85. I think we can never have enough d-lineman, especially DTs. We had room for Schutt that recruiting class, we've had room every year since then, and we'd have room on our roster for him next year. I 100% agree that he would be "nice to have," and that he would have been nice to have the last 2 years as well.

This year the staff should be very picky because we will have, I think, up to 15+ 5th years to choose from (correct me if am wrong). For this class I would like more 5th year depth than recruits (much more upside next year IMO). Head into '15-'16 with a deep senior team.

Does anyone know what Rees is planning to do moving forward?

I grew to respect him, and hope he does well.

Got a pretty cool report from a couple of guys I know on the team about Golson today. They were "in awe" of how good he looked on the practice field these past two days. Said that he looked much faster and stronger than before and the balls he threw had a lot more zip. I know that compared to playing with Tommy those things may seem a little exaggerated but they usually don't talk up players in practice like that.

Trying to build an early case for 2014 IE Insider?

Pace yourself, Truth, it could be a long season with a damaged index finger!

Thanks, I need that kind of backing down when I get worked up.

I'm rooting for Rees in life. I hope he can find some time on practice squads and eventually move to coaching. I think he has all the tools to be a great coach and his days as ND's QB should've hardened him to the pressures of any situation.

Also, need more vids
