It's difficult to gauge his football IQ right now but Max strikes me as a bright kid with ridiculous athleticism. He's the future QB of the secondary, in my opinion. As the season progresses and he builds confidence, it wouldn't surprise me if he emerges as the QB of the secondary this year (maybe it's wishful thinking he does it this year).

Next year he'll be locked into the role, and Shumate will start next to him. KeiVarae will return to be a two time AA, Luke and Watkins will lock down the other side of the field and we'll nickname them the loyal sons of boom.

Yeah, I like kool aid too. 'Bout to have me a glass right now.

I don't think that you need a glass as you are swimming in a pool of Kool-aid.

Farley's body language in practice looks pretty bad to me, when he gets beat on a cut he is done, he just looks mentally tired to me.

Strikes me as the sort of kid who would get offered a 5th year but might not want it and would rather pursue other goals.

It's really disappointing that with Hardy, Shummate, Baratti, and possibly Tranquill, Farley will still be getting major minutes over some of these guys. He's the defensive version of Tommy Rees.

Another issue I have (and it was with Diaco) is how it takes YEARS to understand a defensive position. These are freaking Notre Dame students, and it's football. Quit making it so confusing. Make it simple enough so the best athletes can play.

I think this is sort of endemic in the program. Even when Alford is talking about the RB's yesterday he was saying that TF and GB had "never done pass pro" and thus can't be trusted to pass block yet. How hard is it? You block the guy on the end or up the middle! I know it may be just coach speak but it drives me crazy!

Pass blocking isn't just standing back there as a backup blocker for the offensive line. They have a specific blocking assignment that is different depending on the play. It's not easy.

Let's not act like every other team in college football is just lining up and playing man-ball. NEWSFLASH... young players typically have to develop. They don't all come in ready to play at the highest level of cfb.

Fair points, but would you agree that under Diaco, it seemed like the learning curve looked like a Robin Hood-fired arrow for the first two years in most cases?

I've noticed this as well. Multiple times I've seen him with bad body language. It's like he's trying to convince himself he's a corner until each new rep and then, boom, reality smacks him in the face.

I know the coaches are finished with that experiment. I really like Farley, FWIW, I simply don't think it's good news when Shumate, Redfield, Baratti and Collinsworth aren't able to keep him off the field.

Hopefully Tranquil is a quick learner but even at the fastest learning pace, he won't be in charge of the secondary back there.

It seems our ultimate hope finds itself in Redfield. If he can grasp the defense well enough to "quarterback" the secondary as well as play up to his potential, then the staff would be free to put any one else in there with him: Shumate, Collinsworth, Baratti, Farley, etc.

The season needs to get here yesterday.

I think that had a lot to do with his scheme. The zone aspects of it allowed some players to play free and others had a lot of responsibilities. I feel like we aren't that different than other college football teams across the country. It's not like we haven't had plenty of young guys come in and play well either. Under BK we have had Tuitt, KRuss, Day, Jaylon, etc all come in and grasp things quickly. As fans, I think we sometimes overlook the fact that instant gratification doesn't come with every player in the program. Especially when positions and/or scheme is changed on them. I really don't see a development issue on our team. In fact, I would say that we are strong in that department. We ask a lot of them, and typically we get pretty good results.

I hope he ends up being better than Taylor Mays. Mays hit like a girl.

Not a fair comparison, Golden Tate's hands were replaced with hydraulic vice grips at some point during high school.

maybe i am watching a different video, but what i saw was nothing more than 2 sec video of choppiness and nothing that appeared to me that they intentionally blurred anything because i could still see what was happening..again maybe i wasn't watching the correct one but this is the one i watched that i thought was the one in question

It is earlier that the original poster quoted I believe. Everett is rolling out right. First you see a white rental truck, then as the camera pans you see a group of players with coaches, mostly defensive facing the camera (at a distance), but with at least 11 blue jerseys (offensive, I believe). As the camera pans through catching them they are blurred within a second for the duration, until they are off camera. I think this occurs between 1:12 and 1:15. But it definitely is intentional, and it is only the group in the distance. Everything else stays in focus. On my computer, some tighter shots of players moving fast get choppy, but that is (IMO) a function of the camera or the recording or playback process, and unintentional. Hope this helps. Because it is interesting.

yeah i did catch that once wizard posted the screen shot...i was looking to the right and not at the left hand side...no idea why...POSSIBLE that there was a recruit there? and they can't show him idk...it def was soo far away that im not sure what they could have gotten from that 3 seconds ...but im also not a coach so possible it was to create the ol schematic advantage

with the hurry up offenses these days i think it mitigates to an extent the need for a safety to "QB" everything and get everyone properly set and in postion etc etc...how much time do they really have, plus guys need to know ther won positions, and dont forget all the coaches screaming from sidelines...put the athletes on the field--post snap ability more important than pre snap ability IMO.

play the damn game

The only thing this highlight film is missing is when Tate flattened Mays on the goal line.

Loved the Alford video. Makes me realize how perilously thin ND is with re: to RB's. Easy to have your RB's beat up during the year. Here's to good health.

I love Tony Alford. I could listen to that man talk about football all day. What a treasure he is to this program.

Dude are you trying to make me cry! God I miss Golden Tate at ND. Easily the most exciting player in the last 15 years IMO.

Physically Tranquill looks like a LB and moves like one to. Let me add that I'm a fan just think he'll need to move to LB

PANDFAN, could I ask you to get rid of this video and just insert a link instead? Every time I click on this link it autoplays. Thanks.

Agree, you can see he's a step slow compared to the others.

I reall wish Shummate could put it all together. Lots of wasted talent if he doesn't make an impact this year.

I know it can't happen, but if our corners could be KVR, Riggs, Luke with Shummate and Redfield at safety, I'd put our secondary up against almost anyone in the country.

Me too. GB is a cocky dude. Those guys are real fun to have on your side when they are team players and all enthusiasm.

Really glad to hear that about Shumate.

Sounds like it will for sure be Collinsworth at SS
