That would explain a lot haha.

I thought I remembered reading he was back in pads full-go after the first week, but I may be wrong.

I want to see how he looks at 322lbs. If he still can rush the passer at that weight, wow.

Also keep in mind that he's not going to be staying at that weight. Kelly said on saturday that was due to lack of training because of the injury. Longo will get him down to just over 300.

I'm going to be severely disappointed if Ishaq doesn't break out this year.

I know he'll still be behind Prince, but when he's out there, I want to see him being a huge contributor!

315 was the last number I believe.

Corey will be close to God, in status, by the end of the season, IMO!

Yeah I was thinking Brooks was 88 this whole time too. Man has Robinson really stuck out in these short clips. One that kid gets a little more bulk he's going to be tough as hell to defend.

Go back and read the discussion in Corey's thread about Calvin Johnson. It wasn't that long ago.

Yes it was, you must be thinking of a different play. That badger play is from more than a few days ago.

Maybe I am. The Onwualu play I thought we were discussing is from the April 3rd video, where he is on an out pattern, against someone who is playing corner and looks more like Russel or Atkinson. It is the play I described where he uses his strength to keep on route and keep the defender away from the ball and then extends to catch it, (on an out.)

Then there was the long go route where he used speed to blow by the defender, and the defender couldn't even recover enough to get an angle on him. I didn't get that players number, but I was assuming it was a walk on.

I am sorry if I am confused, did not communicate clearly, or seemed in any way to be picking a fight. It has been a long week, a good one, but I have just sat down her for quick bursts, so my posts have desired a little (lot) of polish.

Here is a good point though: James O and Corey R have an incredible number of featured plays already. Both have an incredible, almost uncanny ability to get to the ball, kind of like Daniels has showed. Alex Welch has showed that ability, too. (Yes the record still is TJ last year.)

Another edit: Onwualu had two great catches against competition on the last practice video: at 1:30 he came down with the ball and made 'em tackle him; and at 1:50 he served and antidote to our red zone woe's.

Corey had two good catches in that sequence, (or on that drive). And boy did the whole line look good on that last sequence! Zack Martin is now the poster boy for how the Tn fans were full of it when they talked down Harry Heistand. All the O-zers are looking remarkably good and seem to realy be functioning as a unit. And as good as the o-line looked, the d-line looked good, too!

I had to check your post to see if it was dated last year.

Last year I probably posted "disappointed"... This year is" severely disappointed"... There's a difference. Lol

But I know a bunch of people hoped Ishaq would break out last year. He really needs to this year.

I thought I would put it here, but if you want to listen to the Elston interview on Sheldon Day, you get a really good look at the coaching staff science in selecting a recruit. Short recruit, good pad level; does he have long arms? May explain why certain recruits commitments are not accepted.

And the way Elliott talks about Farley; "We hoped." "It happened because he . . ." It is always about extra effort, usually off the field.

My quick takeaways, Elmer looked great. Our OL seems to be holding their own against our DL. Great to see. I'm very excited to see Grace play.

Asked if early enrollee freshman James Onwualu would line up in the slot or outside this season, Mike Denbrock offered an answer befitting his depleted group: "Yes."

The Notre Dame outside receivers coach has found himself with a smaller pool of talent to work with this spring following the transfers of sophomores Davonte Neal and Justin Ferguson, forcing him to mix and match faces all over the place in hopes of finding the best solution for the Irish passing game.

"We're kind of trying to find a way to incorporate everybody that we've got available to us right now kind of in the mix, and kind of put them in some different places and give some other guys some opportunities," Denbrock said. "Anytime that you're a little bit short numbers-wise, you've got to find them somewhere. So we're not going to practice any shorter, we're not going to take any fewer reps, so we've got to find bodies to do it."

Eight scholarship receivers remain on the roster, with two more, Torii Hunter Jr. and William Fuller, on the way this summer.

Denbrock likes the two freshmen he has right now, saying that Onwualu and Corey Robinson have impressed in their short time on campus.

"Corey Robinson, everything he does that comes near him -- his catch radius reminds me a lot of Tyler Eifert in that even if the ball's somewhere on the perimeter, he's going to find a way," Denbrock said. "Great ball skills, good knowledge of the game of football, surprisingly, even though he's from a small school in Texas and is basketball-oriented maybe family-wise, but has done a really nice job.

"James Onwualu is a tough guy, physical, loves the game, plays with tremendous passion. Good skill-set. Those guys are a pleasant surprise. And when you sit down and you think -- and we talk about this sometimes when we're watching practice film -- and you go, 'This guy's supposed to be getting dressed for the prom, and here he is out here competing,' and those guys are doing a great job."

The Irish lose four of their top-six pass-catchers from a year ago, but even the returnees could see themselves spread to different spots of the field.

Senior TJ Jones, whose 50 grabs last year tied for the team lead, is a candidate to play in the slot after the loss of Neal and the graduation of Robby Toma. So, too, is converted safety C.J. Prosise.

"I'd say the jobs open for anybody, all comers," Denbrock said. "Anybody who proves they've got the ability to go in there and do something positive for our offense is going play in there. We don't obviously have as much depth as we'd like to have, so that's a great opportunity for a lot of guys to do a lot of different things and not pigeonhole themselves into one specific position, but get out there and perform and earn your reps."

Corey Robinson looks awesome in every clip. Probably my favorite freshman so far.

I too for the longest time was thinking Onwualu was Massa. i'm digging Onwualu a lot as well.

My pleasant surprise so far--especially from the April 8 outdoor video, is BY FAR, Lo Wood. Aggressive and competing. so much so, i might exepct brian kelly to say Danial Smith may be limited for a week or two. re watch that video--on the ball that drifts out of bounds and lo competes, decks smith, and smith looked pretty slow to get up. i like that from a nickel.
