What freshmen do you guys think are most likely to make an impact this year? I'll say Onwualu, Jaylon, and Elmer

Folston on O. Vanderdoes on D.

Wow, hard to believe I forgot about Vanderdoes. Damn this class is deep. I don't know how much Folston will see the field, but I could definitely see him playing in the slot this season

IDK but J.O. has IT....not only physical but mentally he gets it! i see him getting very meaningful reps w/ a chance of good production...jaylon or eddie just based purely on being big and fast w/ unreal talent!

I know what you mean about Onwualu. He's really got that X-factor. Seems like a great fit at ND. I wonder how he is at blocking... that would go a long way in him getting on the field

Hope the spring game gets here soon! 11 days!

If he can get some weight on him before summer, I think Fuller will surprise some people. I'm looking forward to watching his career.

Heuerman
maybe Cole Luke

GB, do you think Redfield will play at all? Who do you think will redshirt in the class? I hope with this deep class we can afford to have good special teams for once

Totally forgot about him. I think he starts. Durham Smythe I am interested in seeing him this fall. But the rest of the guys redshirt.

Interested to see if Corey Robinson ends up being a go to red zone player with Daniel Smith never catching on.

I think Durham Smythe is more likely to see playing time then Heuerman. Kid needs to pack on weight for TE.

embedding is a lot more convenient for me at work. JS

Welch has had some terrific grabs this spring. It's easy to forget what a highly sought-after recruit he was.

Maybe I am. The Onwualu play I thought we were discussing is from the April 3rd video, where he is on an out pattern, against someone who is playing corner and looks more like Russel or Atkinson. It is the play I described where he uses his strength to keep on route and keep the defender away from the ball and then extends to catch it, (on an out.)

Then there was the long go route where he used speed to blow by the defender, and the defender couldn't even recover enough to get an angle on him. I didn't get that players number, but I was assuming it was a walk on.

I am sorry if I am confused, did not communicate clearly, or seemed in any way to be picking a fight. It has been a long week, a good one, but I have just sat down her for quick bursts, so my posts have desired a little (lot) of polish.

Here is a good point though: James O and Corey R have an incredible number of featured plays already. Both have an incredible, almost uncanny ability to get to the ball, kind of like Daniels has showed. Alex Welch has showed that ability, too. (Yes the record still is TJ last year.)

Another edit: Onwualu had two great catches against competition on the last practice video: at 1:30 he came down with the ball and made 'em tackle him; and at 1:50 he served and antidote to our red zone woe's.

Corey had two good catches in that sequence, (or on that drive). And boy did the whole line look good on that last sequence! Zack Martin is now the poster boy for how the Tn fans were full of it when they talked down Harry Heistand. All the O-zers are looking remarkably good and seem to realy be functioning as a unit. And as good as the o-line looked, the d-line looked good, too!

Don't worry it wasn't taken that way at all man

However, regardless of who Onwualu is lining up against, I think he is far ahead of where many thought he would be as an EE

There was a big rumor that Welch was going to be the #2 TE last year before he got hurt, despite everyone wanting to see Niklas and Potential.

Look a the practice videos from before 4/8 in the earlier part. In a couple he was practically pancaking dudes.

Check the recent videos. Daniel Smith, Onwualu, Robinson, and Welch all have great red zone catches. Repeatedly.

I thought Tuitt was sitting out spring practice.

Sorry if its already posted, but why is Tuitt sitting out?

Wow, that was impressive. I really like Onwualu. If I am lucky enough to go to ND one day I hope I can get involved in football practices, I feel like theres so much I could learn. I really enjoy these spring practice videos

I think it will be difficult for him to start this season with Farley and Shumate both having experience and having a good Spring but sure would be awesome if he could in and push them right away for playing time. The safety competition is going to be fierce and a joy to watch, dont forget about Nikki either, kid is a player.

I think Max may be too dynamic to sit if he can't break in at safety, he might get in the mix a little bit at receiver while he learns the safety spot.

Kelly made a point during one of his press conferences to bring up the fact that he followed Welch while at Cincy and thought he was one of the best pass catching TE's around.

Last year I probably posted "disappointed"... This year is" severely disappointed"... There's a difference. Lol

But I know a bunch of people hoped Ishaq would break out last year. He really needs to this year.

I'm still waiting as well. Had high hopes for this youngster-probably too high IMO. He's just a young guy trying to develop. I hope "it" happens this year.

Spring is going well. Issues with transfers yes, but overall there seems to be good chemistry, new leaders, excitement with people stepping up, and some of the newbies making names for themselves. The BG game will be awesome to watch. I can't imagine what summer practice will look like with Redfield, Bryant, Folston, Smith and the others stepping foot on campus.

Looking good!

You seriously think Redfield starts? There's a bunch of talent in the backfield. I think he redshirts... maybe gets PT on ST.

I'm interested to see how Fuller, Luke, Smythe and Randolph come in. They are some of the lesser thought of from this class and I think they can all have high ceilings... especially Dougie. I can't wait for my boy Deeb to get on campus either. He will be a solid ST performer this year. I believe he'll win ST/scout POY and then contribute on D his sophomore year.

Experience != Talent.

The backfield will be good without Redfield, but he ceiling is basically up to the moon. The faster his learning curve is, the more likely it is for him to start by week 12.

Getting 5 years out of a player like Redfield would seem a remote possibility, so redshirting a talent like that is not in the cards. He will play on ST from day 1 and will be worked into on field play within a few weeks.

In no way shape or form does he red shirt! What experience besides Farley we got? Shumate played nickel. Collinsworth played a little bit thats it. Barratii a little bit also. Yes there is talent but not to much experience.
