I don't expect much out of Jones this year. Probably some playing time, but nothing much. He doesn't strike me as a young man who's interested in maximizing his God-given gift with hard work and dedication. Instead, he's worried about girls, jokes, and song lyrics. Hope I'm dead wrong.

I do think it will eventually click for him. That's why I am glad he'll have 5 years to mature but I have to agree to a point. He also strikes me as a kid that needs to get more physical. Even just watching some of these videos, it seems the other lineman are just more violent with their hands and in their approach. If Eddie V gets to campus in good shape, I wouldn't be surprised if he sees the field more.

I'll bet a massive amount of vbucks that EV plays more than Jones this year. At least in a vacuum (aka, no injuries, suspensions, etc.).

Edit: Using 'massive' relatively speaking. I don't have billions like some of you guys.

Corey, with another high point catch.

He's gonna be a good one. He know's what his strengths are, and he's capitalizing them.

Two things I noticed:

GA3 looks really fast and is running lower and shiftier.

Russell is a stud CB. He looks so natural there.

I love TJ Jones's footwork. He's probably the most under appreciated player of the last 4 years. Starter all 4 years and I think he'll get a chance to play in the NFL, despite being undersized and probably not a burner in the 40.

i couldn't see who it was...but he man handled his man in the blocking drill...he has been great in down field blocking which has gone unnoticed

That's because last time he missed a block Kelly went redface on him and it made sportscenter, haha.

I thought that was the play when a pass hit him in the facemask and USF picked it off lol

I would have to believe he got it. We talked last spring about using his body. He keeps everyone away from the ball with his bod, whether he highpoints it or not!

CMcD, GAIII, JO, CJP, and EG all look soooooooooo much better!

Some one help me: why do you see so much grabbing of shirts and locking arms on blocking drills? Isn't that still holding?

You guys are right, I was just being facetious. He did have troubles holding blocks his freshman year and I remember it being talked about so I thought I'd throw that comment out there.

Still not reading too much into this [other than the need to get our guys back from their injuries and the frosh studs in camp --- the depth chart is horrible at the moment]. The "first" vs "second" still looks to me like 90+% Kelly's policy of Starters plus Vets get first to begin with, and others fill in the "second" as best possible.

If you see a Healthy person NOT in an expected spot, THAT tells you more. Example: "Welch in the mix" vs. Koyack on Second; or McDaniel Second, no Mahone; or no Rabasa, Hardy, Badger, etc. Onwualu in the mix on first is interesting to me.

When you say "McDaniel Second" does that mean you did not expect him to be second on depth chart? What do you mean by it "tells you more?" Not trying to debate anything just trying to understand what you think it does mean. Friends with Cam and his family, so he is the only reason I really follow any ND football anyway. So fill me in bro.

Irish: "McDaniel second" means he is running with the twos AND NOT Mahone. It is a comment aimed at those here on IE who don't give Cam much of a chance to get RB reps, which group DOES NOT include me.

I have been in McDaniel's corner ever since my brother in Houston gave me a HS scouting report on him which was over-the-top positive. We have a ton of people on this board who do not believe that Cam has it, and I think that they are dead wrong and all he needs is the opportunity to show what is for me a huge array of skills.

What Cam undeniably has is confidence and drive.

I think everyone expects Cam to get meaningful carries. I don't think anyone expects him to get the majority though.

Except for GAIII's speed, I am a much bigger fan of Cam than I am GAIII. I think Cam showed more grit and smash mouth running style last year despite it being in garbage time and GAIII very rarely could hit the holes and was way too easy to bring down on 1st contact. I love it when he kicks in the afterburners and takes a 50 yard run to the house but I much prefer Cam's consistent 4-5 ypc he can get. If he can do that against tougher competition like scUM or Stanford, then I wouldn't have a problem with him being the #1 back. But it has not been proven just yet that he can. Then again, GAIII hasn't proven he can, either. I just hope between the 2 of them (or whoever emerges this spring and into the Fall) can come close to replicating what Cierre and Theo did last year.

I will add that one of the reasons I am so high on Cam is because during the Miami game (and maybe Navy, too), ND threw maybe 1-2 passes in the 2nd half and Cam got the majority of the carries and Miami's defense couldn't stop us. They knew we were going to run the ball and they still couldn't stop the run. That is pretty darn good for a 3rd string RB.
