Tested pretty well at the Orlando Opening Regional. 40-4.56, agility - 4.44, vert 41.4. Overall sparq rating of 109+.

I didn't really think these numbers are necessarily accurate (41.4 vert ?) but relative to the other WR's there, he had the highest sparq score.

41.4... meh. he's no Dexter Williams...

in all seriousness, Opening measures hang time for vert. It's electronic via a mat IIRC, so while it might not be a traditional vert, it's accurate for what it is. pretty sure the NFL is going that direction too (may have already).

Haven't yet and hopefully they don't because it's certainly not accurate as we've went over before. As you stated, it doesn't measure vertical leap, it measures hangtime. They are incredibly inflated numbers.

from a physics/math perspective, as long as the formula and assumptions are correct, it should be pretty accurate. below is the physics for dummies on hang time vs vertical. other deeper articles out there as well.

https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...9022223/HANG+TIME+Derivation++3-17-18+(1).pdf

i'd assume in addition to the simple physics, they have a formula that takes into account the full vertical span of the individual (toes to finger tips), as we can assume a taller person with the same hang time as a shorter person would have a higher overall vertical (pure inches).

not arguing with you, just pointing out whatever they are measuring, it's consistent across the board. and I doubt that Nike would use something (or the NFL would entertain) that's bogus.

and a question, would you rather have a guy with accurate and longer hang time as a WR, or a guy who can get his finger tips at XX inch. I'd probably take hang time for WRs and finger tip vert for DBs.

The point is there are more variables than just that. Bent knees, landing flat footed, heel first, etc. they all add to the "hangtime" even though they have nothing to do with how high the player is jumping. Not to mention you'd never land with flat feet or heel first while making an athletic play, terrible for you knees. So not realistic at all.

Here's a scientific journal / study on testing VJ mat (hang time) vs VJ tester (traditional reach height) and also plate.

https://journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/...acy_of_a_Vertical_Jump_Contact_Mat_for.2.aspx

one of it's findings.... in elite athletes, the mat actually underestimates VJ reach.

Also, below is how mat VJ is measured, and what things (like knee pull) are disqualified.

I'll be interested to see if he is a top of the board take. Like if they will take his commit and wait to see what Macmillan does.

He’s definitely a take. Has nothing to do with McMillans decision in December.

Something to watch here is his WR coach at IMG is Purdue alum Desmond Tardy. Tardy took over for Maurice Stovall in 2017.

Tardy played for IMG HC Kevin Wright at Warren Central in the mid 00's. Still a lot of guys from Indiana on staff there.

247 has Purdue listed as warm along with ND and FSU

Wiltfong and Bud Elliott have year old CB's to FSU.

If you were ranking the top 5 prospects on ND's board. Those that have showed at least some interest, who are they?

I don’t follow recruiting enough to know a top 5 but it seems based on need Chris Tyree would be 1 and Jordan Johnson 2 and the sense now is ND could win those recruitments if they keep doing what they’re doing with those 2

Don’t know for sure but feel comfortable the top 5 probably comes from a group of Tyree, Johnson, Baker, McGregor, Ransom, Clark Phillips, Jalen Kimber, and Rylie Mills.

Switch Phillips for Ransom and your first 5 is what I would say.

Thanks for the replies. I meant to ask the top 5 guys at WR, ha ha.

But I appreciate the macro picture

Johnson, McMillan, Henning, and Redding are probably the top 4. 5th spot seems foggy with recent changes. But I might throw Watts in there.

If we walked with Johnson, Redding, and Watts I think the staff would feel pretty good

Looks like he's scheduled an unofficial to Purdue the same weekend as ND. I wouldn't really worry about the Boilers here so much as Southern/Florida schools. But if the Purdue connection gets him thinking about Indiana, that can't hurt us.

Thanks for that Lucky. I would hope the staff would be happy with that, this appears to be the highest ranked talent at WR we've been in play for, no? Same at RB right now.

Doesn't mean anything until they are signed but this is the most positive offensive recruiting since Charlie Weis was here. Kelly has done exceptionally well with unheralded guys but we haven't been signing Nelson Agholor-type WRs.

I would. Brohm has already elevated the Boilermakers recruiting and I noticed that they are starting to show up as one of the schools offering the same kids as the Irish. Brohm might not get them all, but he's going to some of them. He landed Bell from Warren Central when a lot of folks thought he'd land at OSU.

For a minute I thought you were off and couldn't have been that long, but he was Indiana's 2003 Mr. Football from Warren. Time is screaming by.
