automatic protocol with ND crystal balls
This...always happens!
automatic protocol with ND crystal balls
He tried to commit to OSU but they said no thanks or not right now.

i hate this. offers that aren't "commitable" imo aren't true offers.
I hope we get any player the coaches want but his tape is 'meh' to me. Of course, OL aren't finished products at this stage.
I've always wondered what kind of a spin a coach puts on that when they offer, but it's not committable?

ND does this as well
It's the industry standard at this point, so I'm sure most kids get it even if it goes unspoken. Most kids simply don't want to go to a school that's ghosted them in any case. The Sheffield debacle last year is what happens when the kid doesn't get it and coaches fail to put up bumpers.
Loy kinda confirmed this, saying he tried to commit early in the process when Urban was still around and was told they wanted to take things slow (sounds like my ex, right boys?). If Loy is to be believed, his souring on OSU has more to do with never clicking with their O-line coach.
Agree it's pretty standard, but I'd still like to know what they say when they extend an offer even when they know they aren't going to accept it. Now if they say they will extend an offer if they have room at a certain point or will accept a commit if John Smith doesn't commit, I get that. It's these situations I'm curious about. Of course a kid could be so excited he doesn't hear the fine print when they offer, so that would be different.
I have no idea why they offered John Smith in the first place... horrible film, ran a 5.1 / 40 at the Opening, neither Bama nor Clemson have offered, plays 1A ball vs teams that can't field 11 players, has only completed 1 semester of foreign language and it's Canadian (what's that a boot?) Has decommitted from North Dakota and Kent State and transferred in HS three times and most importantly, his Mom is ugly.
Also accepted money from an agent to write a term paper for his girlfriend, who happens to be a trainer and cousin of Coach Kelly.
That and I forgot the most important thing.
Lives in Fresno.
Fresno? Dead to me.
it's a little tough, i feel like most of the time when a prospect is offered it is in fact committable, but numbers are tight for every team so the circumstances of offers can change daily. a prospect isn't gonna tweet out that their scholarship offer is no longer committable, so we have this list of "offers" that may or may not be effectively accurate.
Yep. With no actual knowledge, I assume that almost every offer is commutable when it’s given out, but that coaches don’t tell players explicitly when that offer is “pulled”. I doubt any coach would give an offer, player would commit on the spot, and then coach would backpedal.
II podcast guys said ND might be happy taking only two O-linemen this class, which would make Atteberry the odd man out (after Carmody). They also just weren't that hot on him in general.
IMO Carmody told the staff he is coming and EJ got wind of it and threw up at the Starbucks tweet.
I mean where else is Carmody gonna go?
He’s 2h30m away from the hometown state school who’s recruiting him really hard (Penn State). I don’t think Ohio State is too far away and they’re recruiting him fairly hard as well. I wouldn’t say a guy with 30 FBS offers has nowhere else to go. I do think he ends up at ND but he’s got lots of options.
