I can't fathom what this board would have done if we would have struggled to beat a crappy Air Force team...

It feels like a pretty solid 2-0.

I don't know why, but that game yesterday just felt "better" than a lot of the other disappointing games of the past few years, even before they actually won the game. Don't know if is that the team is becoming a "Kelly" team, or that the team seems to be more in control or self-possessed, even when letting the other team back in, or if it is because Kelly himself seems a little more relaxed, whether when correcting a mistake or getting Rees ready to go out for the two minute, or what. The game just didn't have that "team doesn't have character at crunch time/we're moving in the wrong direction/ they are getting psyched out" feel that there was a couple years in the past. Just had a different feel to me. That's why the win, though a bit ugly, feels better than just "better than losing."

That's why I think the angst around here is a lot less last night than after some unemphatic wins from last year.

Irishtrain? Are you here yet? Or back at NDNation?

I will quote this every time.

Take your medicine, train, or banish yourself back to ndnation

Seriously. We are all wrong from time to time, but he was incredibly adamant and vehement in his guarantee that ND would start 1-1, and he told us about it on thread after thread after thread. His Kelly hate was going full-board. And now he disappears??? Hopefully he's just tied up and he'll get back to us when he gets a chance. If not, and he tries to come back here after ND's first loss talking ish, there's gonna be hell to pay from a lot of our members here.

Yeah I agree. People are comparing this win to BC and Pitt last year but forgetting the fact that we weren't missing half our starters in the 2011 games. If you think that we would have beat Pitt and BC without our starters last year, you are a fool. Also, I was encouraged by Kelly during his postgame video taken in the locker room. He was genuinely excited for his team, it wasn't lip service. He seemed like a proud father lol. I think we come out tougher, more physical, faster, and more efficient next week to punch MSU in the mouth early and often. If we can force MSU into throwing the ball, we'll be in good shape.

Reminds me of another board I'm on where a Pats fan was talking crap about the Pats playing in Lucas Oil for the Super Bowl and disappeared for about a month after the Pats lost.

I'll take 2-0 anytime. Navy has been a nemesis lately, and Purdue may be better than expected this year.

Just to play devil's advocate here, he wasn't that far off. I mean, there were a ton of people on here, including myself, predicting a 20+ point win.

I think he sees the fine line ND is on in terms of either turning the corner to modern day, winning football or accepting and bowing to all the excuses that has kept ND football mediocre up to now. Most of us look at the situation like ND is turning the corner... He just chooses the safer and more pessemistic outlook and the sad part of that is he will never enjoy the intricate details that are driving ND around that corner... Like pulling out a gritty win with a red-shirt frosh QB, seven injured starters and a heroic cameo by Rees..

FWIW, I had no problem with his prediction. My only problem was that he said it all the time, on threads that had nothing to do with predictions or anything near it. All of a sudden at random times he would just chime in anytime someone said something nice about ND football, and his message never changed. For me, I heard him the first 10 times...he didn't need to bash us over the head with it. Change the message, or give us a little credit that we would remember what he said, instead of having to listen to him rehash every chance he got.

And yes, he wasn't that far off (but he would've been hella lucky considering how many guys got hurt) as far as the record, but the reasons he stated were off. Whatever...a real man comes back on this site to say what he said he'd do...

Gentlemen, we "held serve". Beat the teams which [despite being respectable opponents] we should beat this season. Now we have to upset some people whom the rest of the nation believes we cannot do.

Before I went to Notre Dame, those great Leahy teams which everyone looks fondly back upon, they always had horrible-feeling nerve-wrangling games. I remember the Iowa game [we were widely favored] where it took phony injuries by our two-time AA tackle [I think it was Art Hunter] at the ends of BOTH halves to get play stoppages allowing one more play [other than that the clock would have expired], and we scored both times to tie the game, staying undefeated.

As LAX has said: sh!t happens. The "other guys" are REAL good. They weight train; they have talent; they will make plays... some games they'll just be at the top of their games and their coaches will just be hot with their calls. I don't care what the final scores are: 2-0 is the best we can be.

We need all our guys back for next week. And our youngsters will be one game older --- we're REALLY young at a lot of spots, and we should see our team as far from its ceiling, but growing towards it. Lights will come on here and there all season.

As to MSU: their defense is real good. I'm still not sure that it's better than Purdue's. Their offense, so far, is one-dimensional, hopefully it will stay so. I'm not worried about our D-Line against their O-Line. The issue is: can we tackle Bell? That guy is a prehistoric monster. Our defensive success will be, I think, largely predicated upon who wins the Te'o/Bell collision war --- or the Bell vs all the linebackers and safeties war. MSUs opponents were "there", but couldn't tackle him. Could be the worst back in the nation to have to play against. Hopefully Manti is feeling really good and ready to show some Samoan-heritage guided missile blasting work.

Totally agree with you that he should come back and get his. I do remember giving him a hard time for being so negative last year but honestly haven't seen much of him this time around.. Like I said before.. It's unfortunate for him because when we win 10+ soon, he won't enjoy it as much as the rest of us.. To him it's as easy as "Well, it won't last long.. cause ND can't compete year to year with the likes of the SEC due to educational standards."

I was going to start a thread just like this....haven't read the board all day nor since the final.... I'd imagine most were in meltdown mode.... Cant wait to read the treads.

Ohh man it was awful....lots of new posters showed up. One got banned and others were calling for Kelly to be fired, after a win. Some posters on this board are mind blowing

One area in which we the best? Our record. If I have learned ont thing the last two decades, it is to not take a win for granted. Poo-Poo Purdue - bring on MSU!
